Opis:
The author distinguishes three types of evolutionary theories: 1) ahistorical theories, constructed according to the methodological patterns of classical physics (mechanics), 2) supra-historical theories, in which the historical nature of the evolutionary process is reflected in a more complete (than only in the sense of the chronology of events) and richer, but its mechanism remains unchanged—“taken out of history,” 3) fully historical theories, recognizing that the factors and mechanisms of evolution themselves are entangled in history: are subject to changes in the course of historical development. A prominent representative of the third type is the theory of Ivan I. Schmalhauzen. Some peculiarities of its methodological structure are analyzed. This analysis allowed to reveal the premises of the process of evolution understood as a process of self-organization and to determine the basis on which it can be concluded that the general theory of evolution is nothing else than a theory of biological organization.

Father Erich Wasmann, a German Jesuit, played the crucial role in the debates with monists on the interpretation of theory of evolution. He showed that monistic interpretation of this theory is not necessary, and he proposed theistic interpretation of evolution. In this paper the history of these debates, that took place in Germany in 1907 was presented together with the philosophical examination of the arguments used by opponents. The second part of this paper presents how those debates influenced philosophical and theological thought in Poland.

The author considers John Paul II’s treatment of the topic of evolution in order to retrieve its full content. He starts with an analysis of the Pope’s 1996 Address to the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, especially addressing the problem of the meaning of the words that “the theory of evolution . . . [is] more than a hypothesis,” and the problem of hominization. Then, he explores papal statements from 1985 and 1986. Finally, he concludes that John Paul II’s teaching on evolution appears as fragmentary and ambiguous and, as such, requires greater precision and further development, especially for the sake of the Catholic theology of creation.

In this article the author considers an attitude of the Russian Orthodox Church towards the theory of evolution beginning with the year of publication of Darwin 'The Evolution of Species' until contemporary times. The orthodox theology relies upon the thought of Greek Fathers of the Church who emphasized a difference between the incomprehensible essence of God and His actions (energies), by which He reveals Himself in the created world. In the light of the above conception the Orthodox Church acknowledges every scientific theory as an reflexion of this revelation, if only it doesn't trespass its relevant boundaries. Thus, the Russian Orthodox Church has never condemned the evolution theory itself, although some of her theologians have been criticizing some of its aspects. In the last part the author presents contemporary polemics between orthodox evolutionists and creationists. He also suggests some insight into their arguments exposing their limitations. Opis:
This paper deals with the problem of alleged conflict between the theological idea of the creation of man by God and the scientific theories that explain the origin of the human body referring to the process of evolution. It is argued that there is no contradiction between these two domains and that there is no real conflict between the idea of creation and the theory of evolution. At first, the conception of evolution is introduced. Afterwards, the evolutionary creationism is presented as the theological doctrine which claims that God created man, using for this purpose mechanisms of evolution. It is argued that the Biblical account of creation must not be understood literally and that during the lecture of this account one should respect the interpretative principle of St. Augustine concerning metaphorical sense of some Biblical texts. Finally, a “method” of explaining of the emergence of the human body by a direct action of God (“God of the gaps”) is criticized.

Edward Osborne Wilson does not want to follow Richard Dawkins's example and ignore religion. He expresses the belief that as a result of our genetic makeup religion is a part of our inherent nature. Wilson explains religion as a kind of illusion which is neces-sary for effective survival and reproduction. Organisms that have faith are more able to survive and reproduce than those that are devoid of it. In Wilson's opinion, nobody will ever be able to eliminate religion. At the most we can promote Darwinian evolution as an alternative to „lay religion”. In this article Wilson's views on the relationship between science and religion are to be addressed and evaluated, which will then be supported by the arguments of well-known authorities in the fields of biology and philosophy.

The first part justifies the thesis that the project of enhancing evolution presented by Harris, consisting in replacing natural selection with deliberate selection, is based on misunderstanding of the scientifically defined theory of evolution. In the second part, it is shown that Harris’ argument may serve as a classic example of a utopian discourse in which a pseudoscientific narrative is mixed with a quasi-religious belief.

Opis:
In the article the author undertakes a scrutiny of two different kinds of explication of evolutionary processes. One of them is explication with the use of natural selection and favorable mutations as the main factors of evolutionary changes. Another attempt at explication of those changes is the one presented by the author of neutralist theory, Motoo Kimura. It accepts accidental genetic drift and accumulation of neutral mutations as the basic mechanisms of evolution. Numerous researchers say that this is non-Darwinian theory of evolution. However, it should be noted that natural selection and the possibility of occurrence of positive mutations are not altogether eliminated from the presented picture of evolution. In the case of changes in environmental conditions the accumulated neutral changes may prove to be adaptive ones and then they will be selected by natural selection. The neutralist theory does not seem to be involved in the difficulties that the synthetic theory of evolution encounters. Such problems are meant here as the costs of the action of the natural selection, the speed of the evolution that seems to be too low for such evolutionary changes that we can see now to occur (assuming given costs of natural selection) and corpuscular polymorphism that occurs rather commonly. Also criticism of neutralist explication is presented as well as a possibility of harmonizing these two kinds of explication.

Opis:
There is, as evolutionists like to say, a mountain of evidence for Charles Darwin’s theory. But quantity does not always make for quality. For the most part, this evidence falls into three categories: comparative anatomy, small-scale change, and the fossil record. We will survey each category and see the same pattern in each case: only when used selectively or superficially does the evidence support evolution. When carefully considered, the evidence is ambiguous and even argues against evolution. The evidence for the theory of evolution are assessed on religious grounds, based on presuppositions about the nature of God and what this God would and would not do. It would be far more accurate to view Darwinian evolution as a religious theory that has penetrated natural science rather than as a scientific theory that impinges on our religious understandings. In purporting to keep science free from religion, evolution foists religion on science and thereby subverts the very integrity of science. Evolutionists have consistently promoted their theory as an objective conclusion based on a purely scientific analysis of the data. This is simply inaccurate. Evolution is an unlikely story fueled by theological presuppositions and religious sentiment, not scientific reasoning.

Madagascar is one of the trendiest holiday destinations. One of two key destinations is Nosy Be and surrounding smaller islands. It can be considered a local tourist hub. This work aims to illustrate the variability of the region's tourism evolution in reference to Butler's concept, and to specify circumstances characteristic of tropical islands, especially in less developed countries. Typology of islands has been performed according to level of tourism development; moreover, the brief evolution of post-1960s tourism development was assessed. The archipelago's evolutionary stages of tourism development are significantly diversified, evolution has been non-linear and not always unidirectional. It is dificult to observe all stages of the cycle. The stage tends to be hard to determine, evolutionary pace tends to vary, and some stages are absent. Regional under-development and external factors may cause a regression in development. No stage changes were observed on most islands where enclave tourism developed.
