    Opis:
    In order to solve the security problems associated with medical information and improve the robustness of watermarking algorithms for medical images, a unique approach to watermarking based on block operations is presented. This study considers the medical images as the cover image, with the watermark logo considered secret information that needs to be protected over the wireless transmission in telemedicine. In the embedding phase, input with the discrete fractional Fourier transform is first applied to the input, and then level 2 wavelet decomposition is carried out to determine the optimal sub-band tree. For each tree node on level 2, the approximated and detailed coefficient is determined through the feature analysis perspective. The novelty of the adopted methodology is its simplified transformation and embedding process. Upon receiving a complex matrix, it separates the real part from imaginary part where block transformation is carried out for embedding the watermark pixels. In the extraction phase, just a reverse operation is performed. The watermarking evaluation is performed by simulating various image processing attacks on watermarked medical images. The simulation outcome demonstrates the effectiveness of that proposed watermarking scheme against various attacks. The proposed watermarking technique is robust under various attacks based on image statistics such as PSNR, BER, and the correlation coefficient.

    Opis:
    The paper presents proposal for image data unit description using a half-byte format. It was implemented for medical images description. The introduced definitions express pixel values using differences between pixels and the introduced base value. This way the image recorded at half-byte format can be simply compressed by an appropriate compression, methods more effectively. The half-byte format is suitable for so called "natural" images with textures that are usually compressed with not satisfying results. For the given method illustration some example results were introduced.

    Nowadays, the most significant impact of digital image processing in the area of applications are real–world problems. Many new technological trends in medicine and digital processing have been implemented. Several factors indicate such development. A major one is the perpetually declining cost of the computer equipment required. Both processing unit and capacity of storage devices continue to become less expensive year by year. Another factor is the increasing availability of equipment for digitising and displaying images. In modern image processing, images have to be compared each other because such approach allows us to automate of retrieval process. Computer image retrieving is today especially important in medical diagnostics [1,7] or in preliminary images selection [8,9]. Today, in the digital image processing are used techniques and methods which have well known mathematical backgrounds. It can be observed, that in the area of digital signal processing, the Hough and well known the Fourier transform are exploited very often. These transforms are frequently use in image retrieving and can be implemented as computer applications. In many cases the mentioned methods give promising results in images classification or preselection [1,2,4,5,11]. Special properties of such transforms can be used in statistical or comparative goals, especially when searched information has graphic form. Taking into account the mentioned applications, transforms as methods of preliminary medical images selection have been investigated. From this reason pictures, analysing in the paper, to medical images have been limited.

    This paper reviews and discusses the literature regarding the evolution of medical case reports with particular emphasis on patient presentation. It demonstrates how developments in medicine, i.e. increasingly sophisticated diagnostic and treatment procedures, affected both the structure and content of the genre, which is reflected in Bazerman’s (1988) claim that scientific discourses are shaped and constantly modified by particular disciplines. The paper commences with the originsof case reports, touches upon the revolutionary changes in medicine of the nineteenth century, progresses to the twentieth and twenty-first centuries and finishes with a description of contemporary case reports. It argues that as technological advancement progressed, case reports changed from subjective stories about the extraordinary to impersonal medical accounts. Therefore, by demonstrating how scientific discoveries and intellectual trends in medicine shaped the modes of patient presentation, the patient’s perspective will be adopted, which is in line with recent patient-centred trends in medical practice.
    Diese Arbeit gibt einen Überblick über die Fachliteratur zur Evolution des medizinischen Fallberichts als einer Textsorte, mit besonderer Berücksichtigung der Patientendarstellung. Die Arbeit präsentiert, wie die medizinische Entwicklung, d. h. wie die weiter fortgeschreitenden Diagnostik- und Behandlungsprozeduren die Struktur und den Inhalt dieser Textsorte beeinflussen. Den Ausgangspunkt bildet die Annahm von Bazermans (1988), dass der wissenschaftliche Diskurs ununterbrochen von bestimmten Disziplinen gestaltet und modifiziert wird. Die Arbeit beginnt mit der Geschichte des Fallberichts, bespricht die revolutionären Änderungen der Medizin des 19. Jahrhunderts, geht weiter ins 20. und 21. Jahrhundert und endet mit einer Darstellung von aktuellen Fallberichten. Der Aufsatz strebt außerdem an, nachzuweisen, dass mit dem technologischen Fortschritt die Fallberichte ihren Charakter von subjektiven außergewöhnlichen Geschichten zu unpersönlichen medizinischen Berichten geändert haben, was auch einen Einfluss auf das Bild des Patienten hatte.
    Niniejszy artykuł prezentuje przegląd i dyskusję literatury dotyczącej ewolucji medycznego opisu przypadku jako gatunku z uwzględnieniem sposobu zobrazowania w nim pacjenta. Zostanie pokazane jak rozwój medycyny, tj. coraz bardziej zaawansowane procedury diagnozowania i leczenia, wpłynęły zarówno na strukturę jak i treść gatunku, przyjmując twierdzenie Bazermana (1988), iż dyskursy naukowe są kształtowane i stale modyfikowane przez poszczególne dyscypliny. Artykuł rozpoczyna się od opisu początków gatunku, wymienia rewolucyjne zmiany w medycynie w XIX w., omawia wiek XX i XXI, aby zakończyć się charakterystyką współczesnych opisów przypadku. Zostanie również pokazane, jak wraz z postępem technologicznym, opisy przypadku zmieniły się z subiektywnych niesamowitych opowieści w bezosobowe opisy medyczne, co miało także wpływ na obraz pacjenta.

    Opis:
    Celem artykułu jest ukazanie obrazu zarazy wykreowanego przez Piotra Umiastowskiego w traktacie medycznym pt. Nauka o morowym powietrzu na czwory księgi przełożona (1591). W tym celu omawia się synonimię związaną z nazwami choroby, cechy i atrybuty zarazy oraz towarzyszących jej objawów, genezę epidemii, a także ukazuje metaforyczne sposoby postrzegania choroby. Analizy zmierzają do odtworzenia dawnego sposobu konceptualizowania choroby, który warunkowany jest z jednej strony ówczesnym poziomem sztuki medycznej, z drugiej zaś utrwalonym w języku potocznym wyobrażeniem choroby. W toku analiz uwagę zwraca się także na wybrane zabiegi językowe, kształtujące obraz choroby, zwłaszcza udział leksyki wartościującej oraz wybrane środki stylistyczne, związane z funkcją artystyczną (porównania, przenośnie, epitety).
    This article aims to show the picture of the plague as created by Piotr Umiastowski in his medical treatise entitled Nauka o morowym powietrzu na czwory księgi przełożona from 1591. It discusses the synonymy connected with the names of illnesses, the features of the plague and its symptoms, the origins of the epidemic, as well as the ways illness can be perceived in metaphorical terms. The analyses are intended to show the past methods of conceptualising an illness, which was, on the one hand, determined by the medical science of sixteenth century, and, on the other, by the idea of illness as preserved in colloquial language. The research also points to chosen linguistic devices which form the image of an illness, in particular the evaluative lexicon and given stylistic devices that perform the artistic functions of language (comparison, metaphor, epithets).
