Opis:
The main goal of the work is development of the multiscale numerical model of the incremental forming process for manufacturing integral elements applicable in the aerospace industry. Description of the proposed incremental forming concept based on division of large die into a series of small anvils pressed into the material by a moving roll is presented. A complex multi scale numerical model of mentioned incremental forging process based on the digital material representation (DMR) concept was developed and is also described within the paper. Finally, obtained results in the form of strain distribution are presented and compared with the outcome from conventional forging at the macro and micro scale, respectively.

Opis:
As proved in the conducted analyses, one of the factors, which, to a large degree, exerts a negative influence on flight safety, is a potential possibility of a collision of an aircraft with birds, in particular at an airfield or in its vicinity [12, 16]. Various parts of an aircraft are subjected to damage. It appears that damage to the engine as well as penetration of the windshield is extremely dangerous. The consequence of a bird falling into the engine can be engine shutting down [6, 21], whereas penetrating the canopy can cause a serious injury to the pilot, making him unable to continue piloting an aircraft. The analysis of the literature of the object of study [7] shows that the most damage of the windshield occurs in the category of aircraft and small helicopters, whose certification requirements were not specified in this case [1, 19]. It should be remembered that apart from the compulsory experimental strength tests, conducted in laboratory conditions in order to meet certification requirements, there exist various theoretical methods, which are realized based on proper mathematical modelling of the strike event [5, 10]. Therefore, due to lack of certification requirements for the category of normal aeroplanes and small helicopters and a high degree of damage, especially to the cockpit canopy, it seems justified to conduct simulation of the strike impact by means of proper software. In order to perform the modelling in question, it is necessary to select a proper bird model and a suitable simulation method, including appropriate software. Based on the available literature devoted to the subject, there are several methods of modelling a bird shape. Investigations exploit various geometrical figures in order to model the bird shape, the most common one being a cylinder, an ellipsoid and a cylinder with hexagonal endings [10]. The aim of this article is to analyse the selected methods in order to choose one of them for further research connected with the simulation of bird-strike events into a cockpit windshield of selected aircraft.

The behaviour of porous sinters, during compression and compression with reverse cyclic torsion tests is investigated in the article based on the combination of experimental and numerical techniques. The sinters manufactured from the Distaloy AB powder are examined. First, series of simple uniaxial compression tests were performed on samples with three different porosity volume fractions: 15, 20 and 25%. Obtained data were then used during identification procedure of the Gurson-Tvergaard-Needleman finite element based model, which can capture influence of porosity evolution on plasticity. Finally, the identified Gurson-Tvergaard- Needleman model was validated under complex compression with reverse cyclic torsion conditions and proved its good predictive capabilities. Details on both experimental and numerical investigations are presented within the paper.

Presented paper describes model investigations carried out on six-strand continuous casting tundish. Numerical analysis is based on simulations performed with the use of commercial code ANSYS Fluent. The analysis concerns determination of hydrodynamic conditions of the flow in the analysed tundish, with nominal capacity of 22 Mg, and its optimisation by modification of the flow structure in the tundish working area. Four different flow control devices (FCD) were proposed. Results of investigations presented in the paper include the distribution of velocity vectors and distribution of temperature and turbulence kinetic energy. Additionally, for more detailed comparative analysis, the macroscopic characteristics of residence time distribution (RTD) in the reactor, and the transition zone ranges were determined for each of the variants.

Opis:
The contemporary demands in different branches of engineering require application of new multi-component materials and structural systems. Appropriately chosen joining technology can offer significant enhancement of structural system performance in terms of effectiveness, reliability, safety and other design criteria. The modern applications of complex joints are of great technological interest as they permit to combine and to enhance the individual effects of each kind of joint. This is of great importance for modern applications in different branches of engineering: aerospace, mechanical and civil. Therefore in this paper we will focus on the analysis of mechanical response of adhesive joint of aluminium strips reinforced by rivets. The aim of the paper is to investigate experimentally the mechanical behaviour of adhesive joint of aluminium strips reinforced by rivets for industrial applications in aerospace. The considered joint was subjected to uniaxial loading. The tests in this paper were performed for: • classical adhesive joint in order to investigate material parameters for numerical modelling of the hybrid joint • hybrid joining of the structural elements in order to investigate the reinforcement effect. The experiments with application of digital image ARAMIS system allowed for on-line monitoring of the deformation process of the considered joining elements. The particular distributions of displacement fields at the joint surface were estimated for any stage of loading process. Numerical modelling was performed for experimentally investigated specimens. The materials parameters, necessary for calculation, were estimated from experiments. FEA modelling was done with the help of ABAQUS code.

As part of the work, the error level of simulations of uniform optical-fibre Bragg gratings was determined using the transition matrix method. The errors were established by comparing the transmission characteristics of the structures obtained by simulation with the corresponding characteristics arrived at experimentally. To compile these objects, elementary properties of the characteristics were specified, also affecting the applications of Bragg gratings, and compared with each other. The level of error in determining each of these features was estimated. Relationships were also found between the size of the physical properties of Bragg gratings and the level of errors obtained. Based on the findings, the correctness of the simulation of structures with the said method was verified, giving satisfying results.

Opis:
Machine vibration occurs as a result of unbalanced revolving masses, loading forces and moments, starting and coasting of driving motors and other effects. We try to eliminate these undesirable vibrations by suitable mounting of the mechanical system. Another possibility of suppression of the vibration machine is to use an absorber. A model of a vibration mechanical system with a vibration absorber is presented in the paper. The model consists of a fixed-end vibrating beam with primary vibrating mass M and with stiffness K and damping B. The harmonic force F with frequency ? and amplitude A acts on the primary mass M as well as on the beam with stiffness k and damping b, where the secondary mass m of the absorber is mounted. The task of the absorber is to minimize the movement of the mass M. A model (Fig. 1) has two degrees of freedom X and x. Two equations describe the movement of the primary mass M and the secondary mass m of the absorber. The model is solved first numerically by using Simulink. In numerical solution it is possible to set up parameters of the mechanical system with respect to the vibration reduction. According to the mechanical requirements for the mechanical system (output trajectory, velocity, forces and torques acting on the individual parts of the system), it is also possible to design input parameters (driving torques and other parameters of the mechanical system). A experimental model will be designed in order to verify results, where a voice-coil will be used as the actuator of the force F Numerical and experimental model allows changing parameters i.e. masses M and m, length L and l of the beams and frequency ? of the excitation force F. The results from the numerical solution are then possible to compare with the measured values of the experimental model. It is assumed that the experimental model will be equipped with accelerometers enabling the measuring of vibration, which will be placed on the masses M and m.

Opis:
The construction of an embankment situated on soft subsoil with a high groundwater level leads to a rise in pore pressure. This “undrained behaviour” can made the effective stress to remain low and intermediate consolidation periods to be adopted so that the construction of the embankment is safe. During a consolidation process the dissipation of the excess pore pressure is observed in order to increase the shear strength of the soil to continue the construction process [4]. The behaviour of a test embankment founded on a soft soil in Warsaw, on the Ursynowska Scarp, in the Campus SGGW (Warsaw University of Life Sciences) site was simulated with a use of a finite element analysis [6]. This study presents an experimental work, a construction of a flood-control embankment on organic soil represented by peat. The modelling of an embankment behaviour is carried out by the program PLAXIS (Finite Element Code for Soil and Rock Analysis). Measurements were taken of pore pressure, dissipations rates and displacements in the foundation peat. Predictions of these were made using a simple Soft Soil Model. Moreover, the calculation of the safety factor, the eff ect of the drains on the consolidation process and an update mesh analysis were investigated. The results suggest the signifi cant impact of drains on the speed of the consolidation course. The commonly accepted Mohr-Coulomb Model and Soft Soil Model, which involve typical parameters obtained from in-situ and laboratory testing, can be successfully selected for examination the behaviour of fl ood-control embankment situated on soft soils. The Updated mesh and Updated water pressure analysis reduces the settlements and allows for a more realistic study of settlements, while the positive effects of large deformations is considered. However, there is a great need to compare the numerical simulation with the real existing embankments located on problematic soils.

Opis:
The aim of the ISMOP project is to study processes in earthen flood embankments: water filtration, pore pressure changes, and temperature changes due to varying water levels in the riverbed. Developing a system for continuous monitoring of flood embankment stability is the main goal of this project. A full-size earthen flood embankment with built-in sensors was built in Czernichow and used to conduct experiments involving the simulation of different flood waves, with parameters mostly measured at time intervals of 15 minutes. Numerical modelling—in addition to providing information about phenomena occurring in the embankment due to external factors and changes in water level—could be used to assess the state of the embankment. Modelling was performed using Itasca Flac 2D 7.0 with an assumed grid cell size of 10x10 cm. The water level in the embankment simulated the water flow in the Wisła River and the temperature of the air and water. Data about the state of the flood embankment was exported every hour. Using numerical models and real experiment data, a model-driven module was used to perform comparisons. Analyses of each half-section of the flood embankment were carried out separately using similarity measures and an aggregate window. For the tests, the North-West (NW) half cross-section of the embankment was chosen, which contains pore pressure and temperature sensors UT6 to UT10. The water level in the embankment was raised to a height of 3m; the best numerical model was considered the one that best matched the actual data recorded by the sensors during the experiment. The experiment period was from 9pm on 29/08/2016 to 9am on 03/09/2016. Seventeen numerical models of the water level rising to 2, 3, and 4 meters were compared against real experimental data from the NW half cross-section. The first step was to verify the similarity between the incoming data from the sensors. If the correlation value exceeded 0.8, the data from the sensors was averaged. The experimental data was then compared against the numerical models using least absolute deviations L1-Norm. The L1-Norm varied from 26 to 32, depending on window length and the numerical model used.

The presented results of investigations are part of a larger study focused on the optimization of the flow and mixing of liquid steel in the industrial tundish of continuous casting machine. The numerical simulations were carried out concern the analysis of hydrodynamic conditions of liquid steel flow in a tundish operating in one of the national steelworks. Numerical simulations were performed using the commercial code ANSYS Fluent. The research concerns two different speeds of steel casting. In real conditions, these speeds are the most commonly used in the technological process when casting two different groups of steel. As a result of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) calculations, predicted spatial distributions of velocity and liquid steel turbulence fields and residence time distribution (RTD) curves were obtained. The volume fractions of different flows occurring in the tundish were also calculated. The results of the research allowed a detailed analysis of the influence of casting speed on the formation of hydrodynamic conditions prevailing in the reactor.

The purpose of this article is to provide examples of models used in ground and shell design in engineering facilities made using corrugated sheets, such as roads and rail. Despite the small size of culverts designed for transport use, sophisticated computational models are applied to faithfully reproduce them. To calculate internal forces and dis-placements resulting from the utility load, spatial 3D models with a very large number of elements are used. The paper discusses simplified 2D models allowing to accurately represent an object and its operation. The focus is on discussing three ways of discretization of a shell in the form of: corrugated metal, rod mesh and orthotropic shell.

During design of the envelope of a noncircular belt pulley one should take into account several conditions resulting from kinematics and geometry of the uneven-running strand transmission. Design of proper values of pitches for a belt pulley, which enable good cooperation between the belt pulley and the belt, should be carefully done. In available Polish literature and catalogues offered by belt manufacturers, one can find only detailed dimensions of belts with a trapezoidal profile. Information on other profiles is insufficient for full description of geometrical features of belt pulley teeth as well as to design tools for machining belt pulleys. Manufacturers of belt pulleys and belts give only necessary data to submit a purchase order. The paper presents a digitization process (scanning) of geometry of the envelope of circular belt pulleys with non-standard profiles; this scanning has been done with the application of coordinate measuring machines. The obtained information on geometrical features of tooth profiles has been numerically analysed. As a result of this analysis, the mathematical description has been obtained. Finally, noncircular belt pulleys with different tooth profiles have been designed and manufactured.

The levitation melting has a potentially wide range of applications, especially in the processing of reactive metals whose contact with the crucible material causes their contamination and damage to the crucible itself. Despite its advantages, levitation melting, already proposed in the 1920s, has not yet found significant use in industrial conditions. This is due to the nature of the electromagnetic field used in previously developed devices. The disappearance of this field in the system axis causes overcoming, in the case of larger charges, surface tension forces and metal leakage from the device. The article contains a comparative analysis of a conventional solution and a newly developed levitation melting device, whose completely different design eliminates the previous weight limit of the charge.
