As part of the work, the error level of simulations of uniform optical-fibre Bragg gratings was determined using the transition matrix method. The errors were established by comparing the transmission characteristics of the structures obtained by simulation with the corresponding characteristics arrived at experimentally. To compile these objects, elementary properties of the characteristics were specified, also affecting the applications of Bragg gratings, and compared with each other. The level of error in determining each of these features was estimated. Relationships were also found between the size of the physical properties of Bragg gratings and the level of errors obtained. Based on the findings, the correctness of the simulation of structures with the said method was verified, giving satisfying results.

Tunnel construction below or adjacent to piles will affect the performance and eventually the stability of piles due to ground deformation resulting in the movement of piles and changes in the axial force distribution along the piles. A three dimensional finite element analysis using PLAXIS 3D (2013) was performed to study the behaviour of a single pile and 3 x 3 piles group during the advancement of shield tunnelling in ground. The 10-node tetrahedral elements were used to model both the soil and the tunnel lining. The Hardening Soil (HS) model was used to simulate the soil structure interaction at the tunnel-soil interface. An isotropic elastic model was used for the pile, piles cap, tunnel lining and tunnel boring machine shield (TBM). Several parametric studies were attempted including the longitudinal, lateral, and vertical tunnel location relative to pile embedded in different types of soil (clay or sand). The results showed that the pile head settlement increases during the tunnelling advancement in larger values than that for ground surface settlement. A zone of influence was determined in the range of twice the tunnel diameter in the longitudinal direction (forward and backward of the pile), and transverse direction (left and right of the tunnel centreline). If the tunnel boring is kept off this zone then there is no fear of pile collapse.

Opis:
Units with a numeral component are clearly noticeable in phraseo-paremical resources. This is particularly the case of richly represented multiword combinations with the lexeme “seven”. The comparative analysis presented in this article considers the phrases and paremias of Slavic languages with the component “seven”. They manifest a conceptualising numerical dimension in indications of quantity and intensity by reference to the value of seven units of something, and also by variance or opposition within numerical indices with the central segment “seven”.
W zasobach frazeologiczno-paremicznych wyraźnie zauważalne są jednostki z komponentem liczebnikowym, w szczególności bogato reprezentowane są związki z leksemem „siedem”. W przeprowadzonym badaniu porównawczym analizie poddano frazeologizmy i paremie języków słowiańskich ze składnikiem „siedem”. Ukazują one konceptualizacyjny wymiar liczbowy przejawiający się we wskazaniach na miarę ilości oraz intensywność poprzez odniesienie do wartości siedmiu jednostek czegoś, a także poprzez oboczność bądź przeciwstawność w obrębie odniesień liczbowych z ośrodkowym segmentem „siedem”.

The rapid growth of various applications of the ejection refrigeration systems could be observed recently. Because of possibility of the application of solar or waste energy to supply the motive energy they can be thought as a real alternative to compression devices in air-conditioning technologies. Ejection system can effectively compete with absorption system under temperature of the motive heat source lower than 80°C. The paper deals with CFD numerical simulation along with experimental investigations carried out on a specially constructed prototype/stand for the case of isobutane as a working fluid under motive vapour temperature below 75°C. The numerical and experimental results of entrainment ratio were compared. A good accuracy between numerical and experimental results was observed. The divergent of the results are lower than 20% for tested series. The exemplary pressure and velocity field were presented. Also it was shown that predicted by numerical simulation pressure distribution at ejector wall fits well with experimental pressure distribution.

In this paper several aspects associated with numerical simulations of hyperbolic equations are discussed. This presentation covers a range of modern shock-capturing schemes which are based on Godunov-type techniques. These schemes are well suited for strong shocks and other discontinuities, without generating spurious oscillations in the flow variables. An example of a performance of such schemes is provided to simulate the spatial distribution of air-pollutants which are emitted from a chimney. The simulations are performed in the framework of two-dimensional hydrodynamics, with a use of the CLAWPACK code (R.J.LeVeque, CLAWPACK User Notes, Applied Mathematics,Univ. of Washington, Seattle, 1997a). The model reproduces several features of the distribution, including occurrence of vortices and plumes above the chimney.

This paper is devoted to the space-time conservation (STC) method and its application to a water hammer in steel pipelines. The STC method, due to its numerical properties, in particular its high accuracy, can be an interesting alternative to traditional numerical methods, especially when dealing with problems where the numerical errors have the potential to significantly influence the solution, making interpretation very difficult. As the problem of water hammer is one of such problems, an analysis of the application of the STC method to this case can be very interesting.

This paper discusses the problem of design optimization for an I-section profile. The optimization process was performed using the Abaqus program. The numerical analysis of a strictly static problem was based on the finite element method. The scope of the analysis involved both determination of stresses and displacements in the profile and structure topology optimization. The main focus of the numerical analysis was put on reducing profile volume while maintaining the same load and similar stresses prior to and after optimization. The solution of the optimization problem is just an example of the potential of using this method in combination with the finite element method in the Abaqus environment. Nowadays numerical analysis is the most effective cost-reducing alternative to experimental tests and it enables structure examination by means of a computer.

The main goal of the work is development of the multiscale numerical model of the incremental forming process for manufacturing integral elements applicable in the aerospace industry. Description of the proposed incremental forming concept based on division of large die into a series of small anvils pressed into the material by a moving roll is presented. A complex multi scale numerical model of mentioned incremental forging process based on the digital material representation (DMR) concept was developed and is also described within the paper. Finally, obtained results in the form of strain distribution are presented and compared with the outcome from conventional forging at the macro and micro scale, respectively.

The macrosegregation process takes place during typical solidification of alloys. Fractions of alloy components in a liquid and solid sub-domains are time-dependent and determined by the course of border lines on the equilibrium diagram. From the mathematical point of view, the process is described by a system of partial differential equations (diffusion equations) and boundary-initial conditions. The process is coupled with the solidification one. In this paper, simplified models of macrosegregation are discussed. The volumetric solidification and the 'sharp' solid-liquid interface are considered. Examples of computations are also shown. It seems that for practical applications, the methods proposed are sufficiently exact. Additionally, they are very simple for numerical realization.
W pracy przedstawiono opis matematyczny procesu segregacji składników stopowych w objętości krzepnącego odlewu. Wskazano na trudności związane z rozwiązaniem odpowiedniego problemu brzegowo-początkowego, a w dalszej części artykułu przedstawiono propozycje rozwiązań przybliżonych. Rozpatrywano zarówno problem krzepnięcia objętościowego, jak i klasyczne zadanie Stefana. Rozważania teoretyczne zilustrowano przykładami obliczeń numerycznych.

The paper is focused on the investigation of the 240 hours cycle of heat charging and spontanneous discharging in the soil/water environment with 12-hour charging and 12-hour non-charging (discharging) cycles. The temperature fields at different times of running the simulation have been presented. It can be consluded that generally defined semi-insulated soil environment has a potential for withholding substantial heat cumulatively over repeated heating cycles.

Volterra's integral equation (which arises from the first interior Fourier's problem) by spline functions of the cubic polinomials. Namely, the approximate solution of this equation is represented in the form of linear combination of spline functions, which are forming the distributions of unity within the segments [0, 2] and [0,t] respectively. The error of approximation we associate on natural way with perfectin of considered distributions of unity. The estimation of the error is given at the end of the paper.

This analysis considers the problem related to the transport safety improvement by applying specialized energy absorbing elements. The advanced finite element method was used to solve this problem. The obtained results permit to estimate the practical usability of the proposed solution. In previous works of the examination team [1-5] a series of numerical analysis of the car -- road barrier dynamical system, directed to the elaboration of the numerical model methodology of an impact problem with the use of chosen CAE programs, was submitted. In this article experimental results of a Suzuki Swift car impact into a standard road barrier arę presented. Tests were carried out at the Automotive Industry Institute (PIMOT) in Warsaw, with the use of a test sample of the road barrier. Presented results of experimental tests serve to validation of a numerical model of the aforementioned system. For the safety sake the car's speed during the experimental examinations was limited to 50 km/h. Moreover, the vehicle hit perpendicularly a properly modified road barrier's sector. Experimental initial boundary and constructional conditions were modelled in numerical examinations. in which a commonlv available Suzuki Swift car model, http://www.ncac.gwu.edu, was used. Numerical analysis was carried out with the use of LS-DYNA system.
