    Opis:
    This article is devoted to the different representations of real numbers. In particular, the following types are distinguished and discussed: (1)representations based on theorems referring to the axiomatic characterization of the field of real numbers, (2) genetic representations – related to the construction of real numbers, (3) visual representations – mainly related to the geometrical way of presenting numbers. The paper addresses different representations of real numbers from a higher standpoint as well as from a classroom perspective.

    Opis:
    What is a number?The concept of number is an abstract concept. Numbers do not exist itself in the nature. On the other hand, they carry a wide variety of significant information about the environment and are present in the life of human being in almost all fields. The origins of numbers as well as its nature were considered in numerous ways by mathematicians, philosophers, psychologists etc. The classical theories of number are briefly discussed and opposed to the psychological and neuroscientific findings regarding number representations. It seems that the ability use information carried by number is not exclusive to educated human mind, contrary its origins are innate and common to humans and several other species.

    In this paper, we study operator theory on the *-algebra Mp, consisting of all measurable functions on the finite Adele ring Aq, in extended free-probabilistic sense. Even though our *-algebra Mp is commutative, our Adelic-analytic data and properties on Mv are understood as certain free-probabilistic results under enlarged sense of (noncommutative) free probability theory (well-covering commutative cases). From our free-probabilistic model on Aq, we construct the suitable Hilbert-space representation, and study a C*-algebra M-p generated by M-p under representation. In particular, we focus on operator-theoretic properties of certain generating operators on Mp.

    In this paper, we study semicircular-like elements, and semicircular elements induced by p-adic analysis, for each prime p. Starting from a p-adic number field Qp, we construct a Banach *-algebra [formula], for a fixed prime p, and show the generating elements Qpj of [formula] form weighted-semicircular elements, and the corresponding scalar-multiples Θpj of Qpj become semicircular elements, for all j ∈ Z. The main result of this paper is the very construction of suitable linear functionals [formula] on [formula], making Qpj be weighted-semicircular, for all j ∈ Z.

    W pracy przedstawiony jest model k-tych wartości rekordowych. K-te wartości rekordowe są ważnym  przykładem uporządkowanych zmiennych losowych. Pojawiają się one w sposób naturalny w realnym życiu, w przypadku, gdy jesteśmy zainteresowani kolejnymi k-tymi maksymalnymi obserwacjami. Formalną definicję k-tych wartości rekordowych podali Dziubdziela i Kopociński w 1976 roku. Artykuł zawiera probabilistyczną teorię dla tego modelu.
    In this paper, the k-th record value model is presented. The k-th record values has emerged as an important model of ordered random variables. They appears naturally in real life where one interested in successive k-th maximum observations. The k-th record values are formally defined by Dziubdziela i Kopociński (1976). The paper contains distributional theory for this model.
