Opis:
Introduction and objective. Biomarkers are measurable biological indicators of many disease states. Particularly noteworthy are short nucleotide sequences involved in the regulation of many cellular processes. Their level in body fluids constitutes an important biological marker of serious diseases, such as cancer or cardiovascular diseases. For example, different types of microRNA may be used as biomarker in virus-associated cancers. The aim of this article was to review the current knowledge on the miRNAs and their role in viral-related cancers (EBV and HPV). The article reviews information available in journals and on electronic databases. Brief description of the state of knowledge. A significant part of the world’s population hosts at least one of the oncoviruses, but only a small percentage of them undergo a cancerogenesis to which these infectious agents contribute. Interaction between the host cell and viral factors can lead to the origination of a microenvironment favourable to oncogenesis. Cancer arises as a result of dysregulation in many cellular processes, and particularly important are short RNA sequences which regulate the processes that can cause this disease. The varied expression of this ribonucleic acid contributes to many diseases and provides valuable information about health. Importantly, these molecules are differentially expressed in virally-induced cancer. Many publications have confirmed the relationship between the expression of specific types of miRNA and cancers associated with EBV and HPV. Conclusions. The use of miRNAs as biomarkers of neoplastic diseases associated with EBV and HPV infections may significantly contribute to the reduction of mortality caused by these viruses, and thanks to the development of modern technologies they are an attractive research object.

Opis:
Drosera L. is a genus of carnivorous plants that comprises approximately 250 species, although this number is probably not complete. Some of these taxa exhibit only small differences in morphological traits that can be partly influenced if the taxa are propagated in vitro. Here, we focus on the verification of putative clones of Drosera spathulata Labill., Drosera rotundifolia L. and Drosera binata var. Dichotoma species cultivated in vitro using molecular markers covering the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region of 45S ribosomal DNA (rDNA). Following the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification of ~360-bp DNA fragments and sequencing, the sequences were aligned with corresponding sequences in the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) database. In addition, each of tested PCR amplicons had a specific restriction profile that predominantly enables the differentiation of D. rotundifolia and D. spathulata; the shape of the leaves does not have to be a clear morphologically distinguishable trait.

Opis:
In order to determine the genetic variability of Polish RHD virus strains and to confirm the presence of genetic variant (RHDVa) subtype the partial nucleotide sequences of capsid protein gene, including two highly variable regions C and E, were examined. Phylogenetic analyses of 15 viral strains obtained over 18 years revealed the presence of three genetic groups. The oldest RHDV strains exhibit very close amino acid sequence similarity (98-99%) to the German FRG89 reference strain and most of European strains of the same period, as well as Chinese isolate from 1984. The HA-negative strains and isolates with variable reactivity in the HA test belong to the second subgroup and exhibit an intermediate level of variability (about 3%) in the analysed VP60 gene fragment. The most genetically variable strains (6-7%) clustered to RHDVa subtype. The analysis of nucleotides and amino acid sequences demonstrated three pairs of well conserved RHDV strains, isolated over 3, 6 and 10-year period.
