The author of the article analyses different meanings of the term ‘mercy’. He begins with the ancient use of the word by pagan philosophers. This is the background for the analysis of the term ‘mercy’ in the Old and New Testament. The biblical sources lead to the definition of dogmatic foundations of God’s Mercy and allow the ethical and moral aspects of the human mercy to be shown. Closely connected with the last is the social dimension of the mercy. The author also deals with other dimensions of the mercy, such as: pastoral, liturgical, psychological and juridical. He also discusses the meaning of the mercy in the spirituality and Christian art.
 Autor artykułu analizuje różne znaczenia terminu „miłosierdzie”. Rozpoczyna od starożytnego użycia tego słowa przez filozofów pogańskich. To stanowi tło analizy terminu w Starym i Nowym Testamencie. Biblijne źródła prowadzą do dogmatycznych podstaw Bożego Miłosierdzia i pozwalają ukazać etyczne i moralne aspekty ludzkiego miłosierdzia. Z ostatnim ściśle związany jest społeczny wymiar miłosierdzia oraz jego pastoralny, liturgiczny, psychologiczny i prawny aspekt. Autor omawia także znaczenie miłosierdzia w duchowości i sztuce chrześcijańskiej.

Among the Council’s documents, the Pastoral Constitution on the Church in the Modern World speaks several times of women. It reminds us about the equality of women and men as individuals, also in marriage. It calls us to overcome social and cultural discrimination and emphasizes the legitimacy to demand legal and factual equality of women with men. It declares that the woman should have the right to choose a state of life, access to equal education and upbringing. It was stressed that trafficking in women is a shameful practice, which offends their dignity. It was also noted that women already work in almost all fields of social life, so it is only right that they are able to participate in the work according to their abilities. John Paul II from the beginning of his pontificate prepared the faithful to get to know that „feminine genius”. An important trend in the teaching of the Pope about the woman is a reflection on love. The genius of the woman is also expressed in the fact that the man gets to knows himself, discovers who he is and who he ought to be, only with the woman. This is done when they become engaged, but also in marriage.

“Sound doctrine,” present in the Pastoral Epistles, contains the most community-creating element that strengthens the communion of persons related to admonishment by the author of the inspired text directed at two Church leaders: Timothy and Titus. Both of them have the important task of caring for the “sound principles” among their subordinates, for pure doctrine that does not wander among unimportant matters, showing the most essential aims of human life and for increasing faith in Christ and His kingdom. The text of this article has been divided into three parts dealing with the adjective “sound”: διδασκαλία – the entire moral teaching; λόγος – the words, by which the authentic truth of salvation is proclaimed; and πίστις, the belief that simultaneously transmits and inspires neighbors. They are a sum total of one “sound doctrine” of the apostolic Church strengthened through God’s inspiration.
„Zdrowa doktryna” obecna w Listach Pasterskich zawiera najbardziej wspólnototwórczy i umacniający komunię osób element pouczenia autora natchnionego skierowanego do dwóch przełożonych Kościoła: Tymoteusza i Tytusa. Obaj mają za zadanie dbać o „zdrowe zasady” postępowania ludzi sobie powierzonych, o czystą naukę, która nie błądząc po sprawach małej wagi, ukazuje najistotniejsze cele w ludzkim życiu, oraz o wzbudzanie wiary w Chrystusa i Jego królestwo. Tekst artykułu podzielony został na trzy paragrafy obejmujące „zdrowe”: διδασκαλία – całość nauczania moralnego, λόγος – słowa, przy pomocy których głosi się prawdę o zbawieniu, oraz πίστις – wiarę, jaką niezanieczyszczoną przekazuje się i jednocześnie wzbudza w bliźnim. Stanowią one łącznie jedyną „zdrową doktrynę” Kościoła apostolskiego umocnioną przez natchnienie Boże.

The article discusses the most important issues that accompany the linguistic characteristics of place-names in Simon Budny’s translation of the New Testament. The language form of a given name in a particular translation depends on two kinds of factors: extralinguistic (language source of the translation, translation strategy, attitude to the translation tradition) and intralinguistic (translocation of the name in its original form, language adaptation, translation). Many of these names have a different linguistic form than in other translations of the 16th century. It demonstrates the individual approach of the translator to the language material.

T he author tries to mark the beginnings of the Polish tradition of translating the New Testament’s geographical names. His research is based on the oldest Polish versions of the New Testament that, until now, have scarcely been dealt with in linguistics: the Szarffenberg’s New Testament from 1556 and parts of the medieval translations. The comparison of these oldest texts with those from the 16th and 20th century, both Catholic ones based on the Latin Vulgate and Protestant ones based on the Greek text, shows that the tradition of translating proper names remained — as far as the linguistic shape of toponyms was concerned — under the considerable influence of translations from the Vulgate. However, that tradition was often modified by the pragmatics of translation.

Problematyka niepełnosprawności, chorób dotykających człowieka w jego ziemskim życiu od zarania dziejów wywoływała zróżnicowane – od negacji po akceptację – zainteresowanie społeczeństw w różnych epokach historycznych. Kwestie niepełnosprawności i choroby obecne są w wierzeniach i mitologiach ludów pierwotnych, w różnych nurtach religijnych, zarówno tych już nieistniejących, jak i tych, które są aktualne do dzisiaj. Stąd w treści tego artykułu podjęto analizę dylematu niepełnosprawności i ciężkiej choroby w przekazie przenikającym myśli, naukę i boskość ksiąg Nowego Testamentu.
The issues of disability and illness affecting people in their worldly life since the dawn of time awake a varied interest – from negation to acceptance – among societies in various historical periods. The question of disability and illness is present in primitive peoples’ beliefs and mythologies, and in various religious trends – both those that disappeared and those that still exist. This article analyzes disability and severe illness in the message permeating the thoughts, teachings, and divinity of the New Testament books.

W prezentowanym artykule przedstawiono spis drukowanych wydań Biblii w języku polskim, które ukazały się w latach 1801-1945. W celu identyfikacji konkretnych edycji dokonano przeglądu literatury (a także dostępnych baz danych) dotyczącej tematu. Prześledzono również katalogi głównych polskich antykwariatów, jak i portali aukcyjnych oraz ogłoszeniowych. W efekcie poczynionych prac zgromadzono dane o łącznie 242 wydaniach Biblii (Starego Testamentu i Nowego Testamentu) w analizowanym okresie. Z 242 edycji za unikalne albo wzorcowe uznano 71.
The presented article provides a list of the printed editions of the Bible in Polish which came out over the years 1801-1945. In order to identify specific editions, the literature (as well as available databases) on the topic in question was reviewed. The catalogues of the main Polish antique shops, as well as auction and advertising portals were also examined. As a result of these efforts, data was collected on a total of 242 editions of the Bible (Old Testament and New Testament) during the analysed period. 71 out of 242 editions were considered unique or exemplary.

W prezentowanym artykule dokonano przeglądu wydań XIX-wiecznych polskich Biblii celem odnalezienia modeli edytorskich, według których pojawiały się kolejne edycje. W pracy uwzględniono 62 wydania, które ukazały się na przestrzeni lat 1810–1900. 42 z nich bazowały na tłumaczeniu przyjętym w Biblii Gdańskiej, a 20 na tłumaczeniu Jakuba Wujka. Spośród analizowanych edycji wskazano na 23, według których ukazywały się kolejne polskie Biblie (w XIX wieku). Obok zidentyfikowanych poszczególnych modeli w pracy zaproponowano także 7 podstawowych linii edycyjnych.
The presented article reviews the publications of 19th century Polish Bibles in order to find editorial models according to which subsequent editions appeared. The work considers 62 editions that appeared in the years 1810–1900. 42 of them were based on the translation adopted in the Danzig Bible and 20 on the translation by Jakub Wujek. Among the analyzed editions, 23 were indicated, according to which subsequent Polish Bibles were published (in the 19th centuries). In addition to the identified editorial models, the work also proposes 7 basic editing lines.

W prezentowanym artykule dokonano przeglądu XIX-wiecznych wydań Nowego Testamentu w języku polskim celem odnalezienia modeli edytorskich, według których pojawiały się kolejne edycje. W pracy uwzględniono docelowo 68 wydań, które ukazały się na przestrzeni lat 1815-1900. 34 spośród nich bazowały na tłumaczeniu przyjętym w Biblii Gdańskiej a 34 na tłumaczeniu Jakuba Wujka. Spośród analizowanych edycji wskazano na 27, według których ukazywały się kolejne polskie wydania Nowego Testamentu (w XIX wieku). Obok zidentyfikowanych poszczególnych modeli, w pracy zaproponowano także 7 linii edycyjnych.
The presented article reviews publications of 19th century Polish New Testament in order to find editorial models upon which subsequent editions were based. The work considers 68 editions published between 1815–1900. The first half of them were based on the translation adopted in the Danzig Bible and the second half on the translation by Jakub Wujek. Among the analyzed editions, 27 were identified, according to which subsequent Polish New Testament were published (in the 19th century). In addition to the editorial models indicated, the work also proposes 7 editing lines.

Opis:
The subject of the article is the attitudes and characteristics of children, which the authors of the New Testament epistles evaluate directly or indirectly as positive and recommend to their addressees in their relation to God, Christ, the Gospel, other people and values. Such attitudes include: service (Phil 2:22), obedience (Eph 6:1–3; Col 3:20; 1 Pet 1:14–16), modesty and innocence (1 Thess 2:7), receiving discipline (Heb 12:4–11), the desire for healthy mother’s milk (1 Pet 2:1–3). Besides, Semitic expressions such as ‘children of Abraham’ or ‘children of obedience’ emphasize the child’s origin and dependence on parents and participation in their goods. While in familiar phrases such as ‘my children’ or ‘my babies’ the cordiality, trust and devotion characteristic for children come to the fore. By recommending children’s attitudes to adult Christians, the authors of the letters do not want to lead them to infantilism, but to preserve the child’s soul. Although they do not refer to the positive statements of the Lord Jesus about children, their view of children is similar. They only pay more often attention to the negative attitudes of small persons.
Przedmiotem artykułu są postawy i cechy dzieci, które autorzy listów Nowego Testamentu oceniają wprost lub pośrednio jako pozytywne i zalecają swoim adresatom w ich odniesieniach do Boga, Chrystusa, Ewangelii, innych ludzi i wartości. Do takich postaw należą: służba (Flp 2,22), posłuszeństwo (Ef 6,1–3; Kol 3,20; 1 P 1,14–16), skromność i niewinność (1 Tes 2,7), przyjmowanie karcenia (Hbr 12,4–11), pragnienie zdrowego mleka matki (1 P 2,1–3). Poza tym semickie wyrażenia typu „dzieci Abrahama” czy „dzieci posłuszeństwa” podkreślają pochodzenie i zależność dziecka od rodziców oraz udział w ich dobrach. Natomiast w poufałych zwrotach w stylu „dzieci moje” czy „dzieciątka moje” dochodzą do głosu serdeczność, zaufanie i oddanie charakterystyczne dla dzieci. Zalecając postawy dziecięce dorosłym chrześcijanom, autorzy listów nie chcą doprowadzić ich do infantylizmu, ale do zachowania duszy dziecka. Mimo że nie nawiązują do pozytywnych wypowiedzi Pana Jezusa na temat dzieci, ich spojrzenie na dzieci jest podobne. Zwracają tylko częściej uwagę na negatywne postawy małych osób.

Autor traktuje Ewangelie Nowego Testamentu jako reportaże. Nie uważa ich za dzieło literackie, ale za dzieło dokumentarne, w którym czytelnik znajduje prawdziwe szczegóły z życia Jezusa Chrystusa. Teksty te są wzorem do naśladowania dla reporterów zarówno pod względem mówienia o rzeczywistości, jak i naśladowania postawy reportera.
The author treats the Gospels of New Testament as reports. He does not cosider them a literary work, but a dokumentary work in which the reader finds true details about the life of Jesus Christ. The texts aer a role model for reporters both in terms of talking about reality and imitating the reporters attitude.

This polemical paper discusses the views of Markus Vinzent presented in his book Marcion and the Dating of the Synoptic Gospels. Its author aimed to study interdependencies between the synoptic gospels and the text used by Marcion. This led him to a claim that all canonical gospels rely on Marcion, who is even supposed to have invented the literary genre of gospel. Inasmuch as the author of this paper agrees that the dependencies between The Gospel of Marcion and the synoptic gospels need to be comprehensively studied, he does not follow Vinzent’s theses and methodological approach. The paper’s author emphasizes the necessity of the use of lexical and narratological analyses and suggests that (even at the current state of studies) they can point towards one of the variants of the multi-source hypothesis.
Artykuł stanowi polemikę z poglądami Markusa Vinzenta zaprezentowanymi w publikacji Marcion and the Dating of the Synoptic Gospels. Badacz ten stawiał sobie za cel zbadanie zależności ewangelii synoptycznych od tekstu, którym posługiwał się Marcjon, a w konsekwencji postawił tezę, iż wszystkie ewangelie kanoniczne pozostają pod bezpośrednim wpływem Marcjona jako twórcy gatunku literackiego ewangelii. W opinii autora niniejszej polemiki samo podjęcie wątku zależności między wspomnianymi tekstami jest istotnym przedsięwzięciem, niemniej zaproponowane przez Vinzenta wyniki, jak również sama metodologia badań, budzą znaczne wątpliwości, które nie pozwalają przychylić się do proponowanej w omawianej książce tezy. Autor wskazuje na niezbędną konieczność zbadania niniejszego problemu przy wykorzystaniu analiz leksykalnych i narratologicznych, sugerując przy tym, że mogą one już na obecnym etapie wskazywać na zasadność któregoś z wariantów hipotezy wielu źródeł.
