In a recent paper del Valle-Inclan and Schlöder argue that bilateral calculi call for their own notion of proof-theoretic harmony, distinct from the usual (or ‘unilateral’) ones. They then put forward a specifically bilateral criterion of harmony, and present a harmonious bilateral calculus for classical logic. In this paper, I show how del Valle-Inclan and Schlöder’s criterion of harmony suggests a notion of normal form for bilateral systems, and prove normalisation for two (harmonious) bilateral calculi for classical logic, HB1 and HB2. The resulting normal derivations have the usual desirable features, like the separation and subformula properties. HB1-normal form turns out to be strictly stronger that the notion of normal form proposed by Nils Kürbis, and HB2-normal form is neither stronger nor weaker than a similar proposal by Marcello D’Agostino, Dov Gabbay, and Sanjay Modgyl.

Aim. This article presents the status of the Greek Catholic Church during a defined period. It brings the functioning of this religion in the period of normalisation of society closer. Methods. Our study is the result of archival and document-based research, as well as expert studies and monographs dealing with the above-mentioned issue. Results. Although we can define the period studied in our research as a period of relative freedom when compared with the years 1950–1967, it cannot be perceived as a total liberation of the Church. Unfortunately, the political reality was also reflected in the life and functioning of the Church itself. The Greek Catholic Church and its leaders understood that without the necessary support from the state and regime, they would lose their freedom mainly attained in the first half of 1968. Conclusion. The Greek Catholic Church had to face several important and ground-breaking tasks that were to ensure its stability for functioning and administration after 18 years of its non-existence. This involved receiving state consent for Consecrator ThDr. Basil (Vasiľ) Hopko, leadership of the Greek Catholic Church in general, consolidation of relationships and conflict resolution between the Greek Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church, or even the area of support and consent for building its own institute of theological formation.

In times of globalisation and super-mobility, ideas of normality are in turmoil. In different societies in, across and beyond Europe, we face the challenge of undoing specific notions of normality and creating more inclusive societies with an open culture of learning to live with differences. The scope of the paper is to introduce some findings on encounters with difference and negotiations of social values in relation to a growing visibility of difference after 1989 in Poland, on the background of a critique of normality/normalisation and normalcy.On the basis of interviews conducted inWarsaw, we investigate how normality/normalisation discourses of visible homosexuality and physical disability are incorporated into individual self-reflections and justifications of prejudices (homophobia and disabilism). More specifically we argue that there are moments of ‚cultural transgressions’ present in everyday practices towards ‚visible’ sexual and (dis)ability difference.

In the paper the priority of technical means and methods of navigation at contemporary seagoing ship was discussed. The role of magnetically compass and gyrocompass at the condition of contemporary ship was described. Effectiveness of gyrocompass and magnetically compass from point of navigation and economy was analyzed. The result of analysis is reflected at the recommendation for navigators and managers of ship’s company.

This paper is a hermeneutic analysis of selected academic publications. This paper examines a number of issues related to undertaking social roles by adults with disabilities and the problem of their postponed transition to adulthood, restricting or delaying developmental tasks typical of adulthood, which has negative implications and may exacerbate disability. Support provided by various entities and institutions may reduce existing barriers and enhance their social integration. Both positive and negative effects of using social support by people with disabilities have been pointed out. Sources of social support have been listed along with their specifics. The analysis included the disabled person’s gender, as it determines the nature of support and its reception. Finally, the need for personalised support was emphasised along with risks resulting from institutional discrimination. The role of local community was highlighted as it corresponds to the concept of community-based support and the need to promote various initiatives aimed at integration and normalisation of life for people with disabilities.

Otacza nas coraz więcej urządzeń wykonujących automatycznie niebezpieczne ruchy, na które nie mamy bezpośredniego wpływu. Na przykład szeroko rozpowszechnione samoczynnie zamykające się - za nami - drzwi. Aby nie dopuścić do urazów, na ruchomych krawędziach tego rodzaju urządzeń instaluje się czułe na nacisk obrzeża i listwy. Wymagania bezpieczeństwa stawiane tym urządzeniom ochronnym określa Europejska Norma EN 1760-2.Obecnie prowadzone są prace nad projektem polskiej wersji tej normy.
We are surrounded by an ever-increasing number of devices that automatically make dangerous movements we cannot directly influence. For example, commonly used self-shutting - behind us - doors. To avoid injuries, pressure sensitive edges and bars are installed on moveable brinks. The EN 1760-2 standard defines safety requirements for these protective devices. Work is carried out on a Polish draft of this standard.

In this paper, we examine the processes underlying the Yorùbá numeral system and describe a computational system that is capable of converting cardinal numbers to their equivalent Standard Yorùbá number names. First, we studied the mathematical and linguistic basis of the Yorùbá numeral system so as to formalise its arithmetic and syntactic procedures. Next, the process involved in formulating a Context-Free Grammar (CFG) to capture the structure of the Yorùbá numeral system was highlighted. Thereafter, the model was reduced into a set of computer programs to implement the numerical to lexical conversion process. System evaluation was done by ranking the output from the software and comparing the output with the representations given by a group of Yorùbá native speakers. The result showed that the system gave correct representation for numbers and produced a recall of 100% with respect to the collected corpus. Our future study is focused on developing a text normalisation system that will produce numer names for other numerical expressions such as ordinal numbers, date, time, money, ratio, etc. in Yorùbá text.

The UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities assumes that full participation of persons with disabilities in community life (integration – normalisation – inclusion) as an indispensible element of creating a society open ‘on’ and ‘for’ the problems of the disabled, with instruments serving to eliminate barriers that might hinder equal chances of persons with disabilities of participating in the mainstream of social life, its system of education and market place, and becoming independent and self-sufficient members of the society. Although the Convention itself does not increase many of the standards adopted to provide equal opportunities for all, it highlights the necessity to respect them in accordance with the contemporary concept of normalisation and universalism in architectural design, technological solutions and design of all objects of social and institutional infrastructure. Consequently all public goods and every object of public character (infrastructure, resources, multimedia and so on) must be so designed in the future as to comply with the standards of universal accessibility. Decision-makers at different levels must be constantly reminded that increasing the independence and efficiency of persons with limited abilities (in education, employment) does not mean a cost only, but it also means of (i) investment and (ii) prevention. Regarding the former, implementation of the UN Convention will create new jobs for persons with limited abilities as well as for others working for the sake of the inclusion, while in the case of the latter, it will lead to limitation or elimination of the sources of various disabilities or poverty, and help to create conditions conducive to building independence and self-reliance of persons with disabilities. However, to what extent will the Convention outline the framework of anti-discrimination programmes (social policy focused on persons with disabilities) and to what extent it will remain yet another document of persuasive character, will depend of the political will of public authorities as well as the determination of non-government organisations in lobbing in favour of the Convention. Much will also depend on the citizens consent and willingness to accept the necessary changes in the secondary income distribution to account for the needs of persons with disabilities.
Konwencja o prawach osób niepełnosprawnych (Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities) zakłada pełne włączenie osób z ograniczeniem sprawności w życie zbiorowości (integracja – normalizacja – inkluzja), jako niezbędny element budowy społeczeństwa otwartego „dla” i „na” sprawy osób z niepełnosprawnością, dysponującego instrumentami znoszenia bariery utrudniających realne szanse znalezienia się ludzi z ograniczoną sprawnością w głównym nurcie życia społecznego – w systemie edukacji, na rynku pracy i uzyskiwania przez nich zdolności do samodzielności i niezależności. Konwencja wielu standardów służących wyrównywaniu szans osób z niepełnosprawnością nie podwyższa, a jedynie uwypukla konieczność ich respektowania zgodnie ze współczesną koncepcją normalizacji i uniwersalnego projektowania rozwiązań architektonicznych, jak również przedmiotów i kształtowania infrastruktury społecznej i instytucjonalnej. Tak czy inaczej oznacza to, że wszystko co ma charakter publiczny (infrastruktura, zasoby, multimedia itp.), winno być w przyszłości tworzone w zgodzie ze standardami dostępności. Decydentom różnych szczebli trzeba będzie zatem stale przypominać, że wzmacnianie samodzielności i efektywności osób z ograniczeniem sprawności (edukacja, praca), to nie tylko koszt, lecz także: 1) inwestycja – ludzie z ograniczeniem sprawności i ich potencjał to trudny do przecenienia zasób gospodarki. Wdrażanie Konwencji ONZ stworzy nowe miejsca pracy dla osób z ograniczeniem sprawności, jak i dla innych członków zbiorowości pracujących na rzecz inkluzji; 2) zapobieganie – ograniczanie/eliminowanie źródeł niepełnosprawności, ubóstwa; stwarzanie warunków sprzyjających zaradności i samodzielności jednostek z ograniczoną sprawnością w rozwiązywaniu własnych problemów itp. W jaki stopniu Konwencja stanie się ramą programów przeciwdziałania dyskryminacji osób z ograniczeniem sprawności (polityka społeczna na rzecz osób z niepełnosprawnością), a w jakim będzie to kolejny dokument perswazyjny, rozstrzygnie wola polityczna władz publicznych oraz determinacja sektora pozarządowego w lobbingu na rzecz wdrożenia Konwencji, a także zgoda obywateli na zmiany we wtórnym podziale dochodu uwzględniającym potrzeby ludzi z niesprawnościami.

The war novel by Ladislav Ťažký (1960s) represents a non-conformist (deideologised) artistic concept which refuses falsifying of the post-war history typical for the contemporary socialist realism. The novel is focused on two diffe-rent topics – the war and the following period of collectivisation. Ťažký perceives the two as comparable acts of violence as the true nature of collectivisation was not in line with the official ideology. People who had sacrificed so much to make their lives after the war more humane fell victim to it.

In the paper the authors attempt to shed light on the problems that occur in the process of international specialised communication, particularly within English, Russian and Polish global corporations. Accordingly, they highlight the link between the quality of specialised communication and the effectiveness of the ways in which global corporations operate. Since this link is mostly dependent on terminology, both the senders and receivers of specialised texts should understand and use it as similarly as possible. Therefore, the authors focus their attention on the specificity of specialised communication as contrasted with everyday communication, causes of the differences in the structure and content of terminology used in various countries, as well as on the strategies of optimisation of terminology at the level of international specialised communication.

Ryzyko jest miarą zagrożenia, które z natury rzeczy jest zwykle eliminowane lub ograniczane środkami bezpieczeństwa. Potencjalne zdarzenia niepożądane zarówno cywilizacyjne, jak i naturalne, rozwijające się z zagrożeń są zdarzeniami stosunkowo rzadkimi, jednak często o dużym zasięgu i ciężkich skutkach. Rozpoznanie zagrożeń, ich eliminacja lub ograniczanie skutków są działaniami leżącymi w obszarze zarządzania zorientowanego na obniżanie kosztów zewnętrznych i całkowitych kosztów eksploatacji systemów technicznych. Podjęto próbę przedstawienia ugruntowanych i efektywnych metod analitycznych stosowanych w zarządzaniu ryzykiem.
Risk is the danger measurement that is usually eliminated or limited with the use of safety measures. Even though potentially undesirable events, both civilisational and natural ones, that are the results of dangers are quite rare, they do have quite a wide range and disastrous effects. The identification of dangers, their elimination or the reduction of their effects are of greatest importance to risk management, whose aim is to reduce the external costs and the total maintenance costs of technical systems. The presentation of tested and effective analytical methods applied in risk management has been attempted in this paper.
