Opis:
This article presents the solution for free vibration of nanobeams based on Eringen nonlocal elasticity theory and Timoshenko beam theory. The small scale effect is considered in the first theory, and the transverse shear deformation effects as well as rotary inertia are taken into account in the latter one. Through variational formulation and the Hamilton principle, the governing differential equations of free vibration of the nonlocal Timoshenko beam and the boundary conditions are derived. The obtained equations are solved by the differential transformation method (DTM) for various frequency modes of the beams with different end conditions. In addition, the effects of slenderness and on vibration behavior are presented. It is revealed that the slenderness affects the vibration characteristics slightly whilst the small scale plays a significant role in the vibration behavior of the nanobeam.

Carbon Nanotubes (CNTs) have a great potential in many areas like electromechanical systems, medical application, pharmaceutical industry etc. The surrounding physical environment of CNT is very important on torsional vibration behavior of CNT. Damp¬ing and elastic effect of medium to the torsional vibration of CNTs are investigated in the present study. Governing equation of motion of nanotube is obtained using Eringen’s Nonlocal Elasticty Theory. The effects of some parameters like nonlocal parameter, stiffness parameter and nanotube length are studied in detail.

In this work, the static inertial-elastic instability of rotating nano disks is investigated with the centrifugal force formulation considering the radial displacement. Thus, Brunelle’s previous local solution is generalized by using Eringen’s nonlocal elasticity theory. The variations of critical rotation speeds with the nonlocal scale parameter are illustrated under different boundary conditions. It is seen that the critical rotation speeds decrease as the nonlocal scale parameters increase for all cases. Also, it is remarkable that the presented results are affected significantly from the boundary conditions.

In this study, static resonance that occurs in rotating nanobars is addressed. The analysis is based on Eringen’s nonlocal elasticity theory and is performed in Lagrangian coordinates. Explicit solutions are given for both clamped-free and clamped-clamped boundary conditions. The present study shows that the static resonance phenomenon is largely a critical case requiring attention for rotating nanobars with small lengths.

Opis:
In this paper, we present a novel method to investigate the buckling behavior of short clamped carbon nanotubes (CNTs) with small-scale effects. Based on the nonlocal Timoshenko beam kinematics, the strain gradient theory and variational methods, the higher-order governing equation and its corresponding boundary conditions are derived, which are often not considered. Then, we solve the governing differential equation and determine exact critical buckling loads using a linear polynomial plus trigonometric functions different from the purely trigonometric series. We also investigate the influences of the scale coefficients, aspect ratio and transverse shear deformation on the buckling of short clamped CNTs. Moreover, we compare the critical strains with the results obtained from the Sanders shell theory and validate them with molecular dynamic simulations which are found to be in good agreement. The results show that unlike the other beam theories, this model can capture correctly the small-scale effects on buckling strains of short CNTs for the shell-type buckling.

In this paper, the first investigation on free vibration analysis of three-layered nanobeams with the shear effect incorporated in the mid-layer based on the nonlocal theory and both Euler Bernoulli and Timoshenko beams theories is presented. Hamilton’s formulation is applied to derive governing equations and edge conditions. In order to solve differential equations of motions and to determine natural frequencies of the proposed three-layered nanobeams with different boundary conditions, the generalized differential quadrature (GDQM) is used. The effect of the nanoscale parameter on the natural frequencies and deflection modes shapes of the three layered-nanobeams is discussed. It appears that the nonlocal effect is important for the natural frequencies of the nanobeams. The results can be pertinent to the design and application of MEMS and NEMS.

In this paper, nonlinear free vibration of nanobeams with various end conditions is studied using the nonlocal elasticity within the frame work of Euler-Bernoulli theory with von K´arm´an nonlinearity. The equation of motion is obtained and the exact solution is established using elliptic integrals. Two comparison studies are carried out to demonstrate accuracy and applicability of the elliptic integrals method for nonlocal nonlinear free vibration analysis of nanobeams. It is observed that the phase plane diagrams of nanobeams in the presence of the small scale effect are symmetric ellipses, and consideration the small scale effect decreases the area of the diagram.

A mathematical model is developed for static analysis of small-scale thinwalled beams having arbitrary cross sections. Constitutive relations of the thin-walled beams are defined upon the two-phase local-nonlocal mixture model with integral formulation. The developed model includes flexural-torsional coupling and warping effects. Governing equations of the thin-walled beams having nonlocal property are derived by using the principle of minimum potential energy. The displacement based finite element method is used to solve both local and nonlocal part of the model. The effect of the nonlocal parameters on the static behavior of micro-scale thin-walled beams having closed and open cross-sections is examined and discussed for various nonlocal parameters and boundary conditions.

Mechanical behavior of a bilayer graphene cylindrical panel and nano-tube is studied based on nonlocal continuum mechanics with regard to this aim, von-Karman assumptions and nonlocal theory of Eringen are considered. Then, the governing equations and boundary conditions have been derived applying energy method. While analyzing the bilayer cylindrical panel, the van der Waals interaction between the layers is considered in calculations. The constitutive equations are developed for nano-tubes under internal and external pressures. In order to solve the governing equations, the semi-analytical polynomial method (SAPM), which was presented by the authors before, is utilized and bending behavior of bilayer cylindrical panels and nano-tubes is investigated. Finally, the effects of temperature, boundary conditions, elastic foundation, loading, van der Waals interaction between the layers and single layer to bilayer analyses are studied for graphene cylindrical panels and nano-tubes.

This paper is concerned with the mechanical response of a single-walled carbon nanotube. Euler-Bernoulli’s beam theory and Hamilton’s principle are employed to derive the set of governing differential equations. An efficient variational method is used to determine the solution of the problem and Legendre’s polynomials are used to define basis functions. Significance of using these polynomials is their orthonormal property as these shape functions convert mass and stiffness matrices either to zero or one. The impact of various parameters such as length, temperature and elastic medium on the buckling load is observed and the results are furnished in a uniform manner. The degree of accuracy of the obtained results is verified with the available literature, hence illustrates the validity of the applied method. Current findings show the usage of nanostructures in vast range of engineering applications. It is worth mentioning that completely new results are obtained that are in validation with the existing results reported in literature.

The aim of the present work is to analyze free flexural vibration and buckling of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) under compressive axial loading based on different constitutive equations and beam theories. The models contain a material length scale parameter that can capture the size effect, unlike the classical Euler-Bernoulli or Reddy beam theory. The equations of motion of the Reddy and the Huu-Tai beam theories are reformulated using different gradient elasticity theories, including stress, strain and combined strain/inertia. The equations of motion are derived from Hamilton’s principle in terms of the generalized displacements. Analytical solutions of free vibration and buckling are presented to bring out the effect of the nonlocal behavior on natural frequencies and buckling loads. The presented theoretical analysis is illustrated by a numerical example, and the results are qualitatively compared by another results.
