Opis:
Theoretical investigations were conducted to study the generation of transient nonlinear water waves by a novel side-hinged paddle wavemaker. A 3D nonlinear solution was derived in a semi-analytical form by applying eigenfunction expansions and FFT. The solution was applied to study the features of nonlinear waves generated by a side-hinged paddle wavemaker. The results show that nonlinear terms in the free-surface boundary conditions and in the kinematic wavemaker boundary condition imply the modification of wave profiles so that wave troughs are flattered and crests are getting steeper and interaction effects between waves in a wave train increase. Moreover, these terms imply the modification of a wave spectrum. A train of originally very narrow-banded waves changes its one-peak spectrum to a multi-peak one. Theoretical results are in a fairly good agreement with experimental data. A reasonable agreement is observed between predicted and measured time series of free-surface elevations and the amplitudes of the corresponding Fourier series. The investigations show that a side-hinged paddle wavemaker is an attractive wave generation system. Simple and reliable boundary condition at the paddle enables verification of advanced 3D nonlinear models and accurate physical modeling of many phenomena where high accuracy of incoming wave properties are important.

Opis:
The nonlinear interaction of wave and non-wave modes in a gas planar flow are considered. Attention is mainly paid to the case when one sound mode is dominant and excites the counter-propagating sound mode and the entropy mode. The modes are determined by links between perturbations of pressure, density, and fluid velocity. This definition follows from the linear conservation equations in the differentia form and thermodynamic equations of state. The leading order system of coupling equations for interacting modes is derived. It consists of diffusion inhomogeneous equations. The main aim of this study is to identify the principle features of the interaction and to establish individual contributions of attenuation (mechanical and thermal attenuation) in the solution to the system.

The paper is devoted to the finding of the coefficient of one nonlinear wave equation in the mixed problem. The considered problem is reduced to the optimal control problem with proper functional. Differentiability of functional is proved and the necessary optimality conditions are derived in the form of the variational inequality. Existence of the optimal control is proved.

Opis:
Global well-posedness and finite time blow up issues for some strongly damped nonlinear wave equation are investigated in the present paper. For subcritical initial energy by employing the concavity method we show a finite time blow up result of the solution. And for critical initial energy we present the global existence, asymptotic behavior and finite time blow up of the solution in the framework of the potential well. Further for supercritical initial energy we give a sufficient condition on the initial data such that the solution blows up in finite time.

Opis:
The paper deals with interactions between water waves propagating in fluid of constant depth. In formulation of this problem, a nonlinear character of these interactions is taken into account. In particular, in order to simplify a solution to nonlinear boundary conditions at the free surface, a system of material coordinates is employed as independent variables in the description of the phenomenon. The main attention is focused on the transient solutions corresponding to fluid motion starting from rest. With respect to the initial value problem considered, we confine our attention to a finite fluid domain. For a finite elapse of time, measured from the starting point, the solution in a finite fluid area mimics a solution within an infinite domain, inherent for wave propagation problems. Because of the complicated structure of equations describing nonlinear waves, an approximate formulation is considered, which is based on a power series expansion of dependent variables with respect to a small parameter. Such a solution is assumed to be accurate in describing the main features of the phenomenon. Numerical experiments are conducted to illustrate the approximate formulation developed in this paper.

Opis:
Nonlinear phenomena of the planar and quasi-planar magnetoacoustic waves are considered. We Focus on deriving of equations which govern nonlinear excitation of the non-wave motions by the intense sound in initially static gaseous plasma. The plasma is treated as an ideal gas with finite electrical conductivity permeated by a magnetic field orthogonal to the trajectories of gas particles. This introduces dispersion of a flow. Magnetoacoustic heating and streaming in the field of periodic and aperiodic magnetoacoustic perturbations are discussed, as well as generation of the magnetic perturbations by sound. Two cases, corresponding to magnetosound perturbations of low and high frequencies, are considered in detail.
