Opis:
This paper examines the nonlinear relationship between inflation and government spending using quarterly data over the period of 1990-2013, by using Smooth Transition Regression Model. Results suggested a two regime model by using inflation, government expenditure growth, GDP growth and liquidity growth. Lag of liquidity was recognized as transition variable. This study showed that in regime of tight money or low growth of liquidity, government expenditure is not inflationary. In regime of low growth of liquidity, this variable has low inflationary impact and probably stimulates economic growth. Inflationary expectations in first regime are more effective in causing short run inflation. In expansionary regime, increase of money supply has more effects on inflation rather than production. So monetary and fiscal policies could be used to control inflation and stimulate aggregate demand in low regime. Also in easy money regime, monetary and fiscal discipline can be useful for inflation decrease.

This paper presents the experimental research and simulating results of a ZM130 hydrodynamic torque converter under steady and unsteady working conditions with an external step signal and sinus on turbine’s shaft on a modified test bench. The mathematical model of torque converter was described by the one-dimensional flow theory with variable loss coefficients. The character of received equations from test bend showed by linearized transmittance functions with variable coefficients. For test bend object identification researches will be used an Identification Toolbox from a mathematical code in Matlab, which enables to create transfer functions as a linear model from measurements data as they got the highest correctness level with input signal (as they get the best correction level with input signal on the pump´s shaft). This mathematical model for dynamic loads will be verified by experimental tests. The aim of the carried out studies was determination the effect of sampling time decreasing on the quality of measured parameters. Results of present investigations were compared with those obtained earlier, but for the same input signals .It is possible to affirm that proposed theoretical model imitates the change of dynamic parameters, and the same the property of the torque converter. Researches led on the test bend with extortion input torque sinus signal on the turbine’s shaft confirmed correctness of this model.

Opis:
The paper presents development of an equivalent circuit model of a traction transformer with coiled iron core intended for studies of transformer behavior in a traction drive system. The model accounts for the nonlinear B-H characteristic and anisotropic properties of the coiled core. Derivation of the model is based on the Lagrange’s energy method. Each winding is modeled by a lumped conservative element described by its corresponding nonlinear state function and a lumped linear dissipative element characterized by its resistance. Discrete values of state functions of magnetic conservative elements were obtained by finite element computations. Custom build Reduced Scale Traction Transformer (RSTT) was used for experiments and verification of its circuit mathematical model. Results of measurements and simulations were compared to verify the model. The comparisons showed good agreement between simulation and experimental results.

In this paper, the stability and bifurcation of an airfoil model with a high-order nonlinear spring are investigated both analytically and numerically. Two possible types of bifurcation at the equilibrium point are studied. It is proved that the zero characteristic root can only be a single zero. With the help of the center manifold theory and the normal form theory, the expressions of critical bifurcation curves leading to initial bifurcation and secondary bifurcation are obtained. Numerical simulations confirm the theoretical results.

W artykule przedstawiono pewną modyfikację modelu linii nośnej w zastosowaniu do śmigieł i wirników nośnych pracujących przepływie osiowym.
Introduced is a modification to a lifting linę model with application to propellers and main rotors working in axial flow. As a difference from traditional lifting linę theory, this model does not contain limitations with respect to angles of attack and induced velocity values. This is possible thanks to the introduction of the characteristic of load-carrying ability in the form of a product of two functions: Cz = a0f(Ma, a) sin (a - a0) This description allows for a linearization of the integrated lifting linę equation, as long as the shape of the vortex trail is known. In the case of an unknown form of vortex trail, its shape is determined iteratively using the Biot-Savart law, however in the case of lightly-loaded rotors, induced velocities can be determined with the help of so-called Lerbs' asymptotic coefficients. In the work presented, the comparison of results of calculations with available experimental data is shown.

In the paper an adaptive control system for the nonlinear 4-DoF model of a container vessel is presented. The considered model of the ship includes input signals saturations and dynamics of actuators. Main goal of the presented control system is control of the course angle and speed of the ship relative to water. The system synthesis is carried out by means of LQ-optimal control method. Sets of controller parameters are designed using linearization of the considered model in the nominal steady-state operating points of the ship. The final part of the paper includes simulation results of control system operation with full nonlinear MIMO model of the container vessel.

This paper presents typical results for the non-linear low frequency transients following the energization of power transformers. The three operating conditions of no-load, full-load and internal faults are considered. A direct analytical procedure is applied for solving the corresponding set of differential equations describing the transformers equivalent circuit. The core representation is based on the use of curve fitting applied to their magnetization curves. The results include plots versus time for the supply current, the core flux, the magnetizing current as well as the internal induced voltage. Moreover, graphs for the hysteresis loops relating the instantaneous values of both the excitation current and the core flux are given. An approach is also presented for the numerical determination of the amplitudes of the different harmonics existing in any of these signals utilizing the corresponding equidistant samples. As examples, the DC offset as well as harmonics up to the fourth order are considered. It is shown that several useful features can be extracted from the results in both the time and harmonic domains that can assist in differentiating between overcurrents resulting from short-circuits or inrush phenomena.

The paper presents an adaptive multivariable control system for a Multi-Input, Multi-Output (MIMO) nonlinear dynamic process. The problems under study are exemplified by a synthesis of a course angle and forward speed control system for the nonlinear four-Degrees-of-Freedom (4-DoF) mathematical model of a single-screw, high-speed container ship. The paper presents the complexity of the assumed model to be analyzed and a synthesis method for the multivariable adaptive modal controller. Due to a strongly nonlinear nature of the ship movements equations a multivariable adaptive controller is tuned in relation to changeable hydrodynamic operating conditions of the ship. In accordance with the given operating conditions controller parameters are chosen on the basis of four measured auxiliary signals. The system synthesis is carried out by linearization of the nonlinear model of the ship at its nominal operating points in the steady-state and by means of a pole placement control method. The final part of the paper includes results of simulation tests of the proposed control system carried out in the MATLAB/Simulink environment along with conclusions and final remarks.

Classical model predictive control (MPC) algorithms need very long horizons when the controlled process has complex dynamics. In particular, the control horizon, which determines the number of decision variables optimised on-line at each sampling instant, is crucial since it significantly affects computational complexity. This work discusses a nonlinear MPC algorithm with on-line trajectory linearisation, which makes it possible to formulate a quadratic optimisation problem, as well as parameterisation using Laguerre functions, which reduces the number of decision variables. Simulation results of classical (not parameterised) MPC algorithms and some strategies with parameterisation are thoroughly compared. It is shown that for a benchmark system the MPC algorithm with on-line linearisation and parameterisation gives very good quality of control, comparable with that possible in classical MPC with long horizons and nonlinear optimisation.

Using quarterly data from Q1 2002 to Q4 2021, a Nonlinear Autoregressive Distributed Lag (NARDL) model is utilised to investigate the potential asymmetry in the exchange rate pass-through (ERPT) to consumer prices in 11 Eastern European countries. The findings show that both the appreciations and depreciations of the nominal effective exchange rate (NEER) have significant long-term effects on consumer prices, with the appreciations being stronger in countries with a fixed exchange rate regime, especially the Baltic States. Incomplete long-term ERPT is observed in the majority of countries, except Estonia. Short-term ERPT is much weaker and often of an opposite direction for appreciations and depreciations. Additionally, a strong uniform long-term effect of both the money supply and crude oil prices was observed, while the short-term effects are mixed. As regards economic liberalisation, both long- and short-term effects are country-specific and of a different direction.

Generalization of Linear Rosenstark Method of Feedback Amplifier Analysis to Nonlinear One This paper deals with an extension of the Rosenstark’s linear model of an amplifier to a nonlinear one for the purpose of performing nonlinear distortion analysis. Contrary to an approach using phasors, our method uses the Volterra series. Relying upon the linear model mentioned above, we define first a set of the so-called amplifier’s constitutive equations in an operator form. Then, we expand operators using the Volterra series truncated to the first three components. This leads to getting two representations in the time domain, called in-network and input-output type descriptions of an amplifier. Afterwards, both of these representations are transferred into the multi-frequency domains. Their usefulness in calculations of any nonlinear distortion measure as, for example, harmonic, intermodulation, and/or cross-modulation distortion is demonstrated. Moreover, we show that they allow a simple calculation of the so-called nonlinear transfer functions in any topology as, for example, of cascade and feedback structures and their combinations occurring in single-, two-, nd three-stage amplifiers. Examples of such calculations are given. Finally in this paper, we comment on usage of such notions as nonlinear signals, intermodulation nonlinearity, and on identification of transfer function poles and zeros lying on the frequency axis with related real-valued frequencies.

The applied continuous skyhook control strategy considers nonlinear stiffness characteristic of the logarithmic spiral springs. The control is determined on estimates generated by the Extended Kalman Filter. Opis:
This paper is concerned with observer design for nonlinear systems that are modeled by T–S fuzzy systems containing parametric and nonparametric uncertainties. Unlike most Sugeno models, the proposed method contains nonlinear functions in the consequent part of the fuzzy IF-THEN rules. This will allow modeling a wider class of systems with smaller modelling errors. The consequent part of each rule contains a linear part plus a nonlinear term, which has an incremental quadratic constraint. This constraint relaxes the conservativeness introduced by other regular constraints for nonlinearities such as the Lipschitz conditions. To further reduce the conservativeness, a nonlinear injection term is added to the observer dynamics. Simulation examples show the effectiveness of the proposed method compared with the existing techniques reported in well-established journals.

Opis:
This paper describes the design of fault diagnosis and active fault tolerant control schemes that can be developed for nonlinear systems. The methodology is based on a fault detection and diagnosis procedure relying on adaptive filters designed via the nonlinear geometric approach, which allows obtaining the disturbance de-coupling property. The controller reconfiguration exploits directly the on-line estimate of the fault signal. The classical model of an inverted pendulum on a cart is considered as an application example, in order to highlight the complete design procedure, including the mathematical aspects of the nonlinear disturbance de-coupling method based on the nonlinear differential geometry, as well as the feasibility and efficiency of the proposed approach. Extensive simulations of the benchmark process and Monte Carlo analysis are practical tools for assessing experimentally the robustness and stability properties of the developed fault tolerant control scheme, in the presence of modelling and measurement errors. The fault tolerant control method is also compared with a different approach relying on sliding mode control, in order to evaluate benefits and drawbacks of both techniques. This comparison highlights that the proposed design methodology can constitute a reliable and robust approach for application to real nonlinear processes.

The object of the present study is to investigate the influence of damping uncertainty and statistical correlation on the dynamic response of structures with random damping parameters in the neighbourhood of a resonant frequency. A Non-Linear Statistical model (NLSM) is successfully demonstrated to predict the probabilistic response of an industrial building structure with correlated random damping. A practical computational technique to generate first and second-order sensitivity derivatives is presented and the validity of the predicted statistical moments is checked by traditional Monte Carlo simulation. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the NLSM to estimate uncertainty propagation in structural dynamics. In addition, it is demonstrated that the uncertainty in damping indeed influences the system response with the effects being more pronounced for lightly damped structures, higher variability and higher statistical correlation of damping parameters.

This paper describes a computationally efficient (sub-optimal) nonlinear predictive control algorithm. The algorithm uses a modified dual-mode approach which guarantees closed-loop stability. In order to reduce the computational burden, instead of online nonlinear optimisation used in the classical dual-mode control scheme, a nonlinear model of the plant is linearised on-line and a quadratic programming problem is solved. Calculation of the terminal set and implementation steps of the algorithm are detailed, especially for input-output models, which are widely used in practice.

The article refers to two known nonlinear models of failure of wooden beams in bending. One of them is the Suenson model, in which the compressive stresses in the cross-section are approximated by a parabola, and the tensile stresses have a linear distribution. The second is the Thunell model, in which the stress distribution in the entire cross-section of the beam is approximated by a line composed of straight segments. Against the background of these models, a model has been presented in which the stresses in the compressed zone are approximated by a polynomial function of degree 4. Within these models, it is possible to formulate the relationship between the compression, tensile and bending ultimate strengths of clear wood. It is also possible to estimate the bending moment in the beam at the moment of failure. The examples show that the Thunell model and the proposed nonlinear model of degree 4 fit well with the experimental data and can be used in practical calculations.

The paper presents the principle of operation and experimental model of an eddy current sensor. The investigated sensor will work in systems of 2D visualization of metal objects. The aim of measurement experiments was to reach operation frequencies at which the sensor sensitivity is maximum, and to determine such conditions of work which allow getting the maximal detection zone of the sensor dependent on its sensitivity. In the preliminary research a circuit model of the sensor was formulated. It was pointed out that such a model has to be nonlinear in order to obtain consistence with verification measurements. The investigation results show that there are four resonances on the frequency characteristics. These points of characteristics are also points of the maximum sensor sensitivity. The maximum value of the amplitude-frequency characteristic resonance was at about 147 kHz which was the lowest resonance frequency and was chosen as a work frequency for scanning process. The final investigations deal with observation of the influence of the type of object on the sensor sensitivity. They show that the sensor sensitivity is higher under influence of nonferromagnetic materials.

An autonomous underwater vehicle is a vehicle that can move in water, which is also known as an unmanned undersea vehicle. One type is the hybrid underwater glider where the vehicle is designed in such a way that it is able to carry out missions in the water with less power consumption so that it can last a long time in carrying out missions. In this research, a mathematical design is carried out in the form of a nonlinear model with the aim of being able to produce a model in the longitudinal movement of the HUG vehicle which will be tested limited to a simulation using the MATLAB/Simulink program. The parameters used in the model for this longitudinal movement are obtained by the computational fluid dynamics method so that it has been simulated with various movements according to the mission of the vehicle. In the simulation, input is given in the form of variations in the value of the actuator force to be able to carry out movements according to the mission and the simulation is open loop so that the vehicle's response is in the form of position and speed of translation and rotation.

Opis:
This paper presents a concept of designing fault tolerant control systems with the use of suboptimal methods. We assume that a given (nonlinear) dynamical process is described in a state space. The method consists in searching (at the off-line stage) for a trajectory of operational points of the system state space. The sought trajectory can be constrained by certain conditions, which can express faults or failures already detected. Within this approach, we are able to use the autonomous dynamics of the process in order to minimize a control cost index (a sub-optimality property). The search itself is based on finding a cheapest path in a graph structure, which represents the system’s dynamics described in the state space. Such a cheapest path (if it exists) represents the sought trajectory. Another (on-line) design stage consists in tracking this trajectory by an executive controller.

This study investigates the interaction between fiscal and monetary policies and how crises affect the coordination between policymakers in Turkey. This study’s novelty is that a nonlinear Taylor rule indicating monetary policy response function is estimated based on the Threshold Generalized Method of Moments (Threshold GMM) methodology over the period January 2006—March 2020. The empirical findings reveal that when fiscal policy has an expansionary stage, especially in crises times, the policy interest rate does not react significantly to the inflation gap, output gap and real effective exchange rate gap in expansionary periods. On the contrary the policy interest rate gives statistically important responses to these variables during contractionary fiscal policy periods. Thus, the effectiveness of the Taylor rule appears in a period of contractionary fiscal policy. This situation gives rise to the significant policy implication that the monetary policymaker’s success in controlling inflation increases with the contractionary fiscal policy. Finally, it has been observed that effective coordination between monetary and fiscal policies did not occur during crisis periods, but compatible coordination was achieved in other periods.

This paper investigates the effect of employing an inerter on the performance of active suspension systems. A quarter-car model with cubic-nonlinear spring is considered. The inerter is installed in parallel with the primary suspension spring and damper. First, feedback linearization (FBL) is used to linearize the mathematical model. Then the linear quadratic regulator (LQR) is adopted to control the suspension system. The proposed design is ride comfort-oriented and considers structural constraints. Numerical simulations are executed for passive systems with different values of inertance. Results show that employing an inerter to the passive suspension can improve the ride comfort performance by more than 32%. Employing an inerter to active suspension systems can also improve the ride comfort and reduce actuator force significantly. The actuator force can be reduced by 25%. However, the results also show that the uncaring selection of the inerter can dramatically degrade the performance of the suspension system.

Identifiability guarantees that the mathematical model of a dynamic system is well defined in the sense that it maps unambiguously its parameters to the output trajectories. This paper casts identifiability in a set-membership (SM) framework and relates recently introduced properties, namely, SM-identifiability, μ-SM-identifiability, and ε-SM-identifiability, to the properties of parameter estimation problems. Soundness and ε-consistency are proposed to characterize these problems and the solution returned by the algorithm used to solve them. This paper also contributes by carefully motivating and comparing SM-identifiability, μ-SM-identifiability and ε-SM-identifiability with related properties found in the literature, and by providing a method based on differential algebra to check these properties.

The aim of the present work is the building of a lumped nonlinear dynamic model of lung/airway mechanics using generic instead of specific software, in an attempt to offer an open simulation environment. Based on the analogy between pneumatic and electric magnitudes, an electrical equivalent circuit of the lung/airway mechanics is derived. Then, the nonlinear circuit elements are constructed by means of the powerful Analog Behavioral Modeling (ABM) building blocks and the system is solved using PSPICE. Following the approach in [3] and [4], five lumps are defined: two capacitors (elastances) corresponding to lung and collapsible airway segment and three resistors, corresponding to lung, collapsible airway segment and upper airway. The element definition involves as much as five parameters for the lung, four parameters for the collapsible segment and two parameters for the upper airway. The model does not attempt to mimic any particular system adjusting a given set of parameters but instead to provide a tool to explore the relationship between a given parameter or set of parameters and the system response. In particular, Forced Vital Capacity (FVC) maneuver and tidal breathing will be explored.

We present a systematic nonlinear procedure for designing microwave oscillators utilising a nonlinear PHEMT model, the negative resistance approach and the describing function concept. The procedure is applied in the design of a 24 GHz oscillator, which is then realised in hybrid technology. Measurement results show - 6% shift in the frequency but an acceptable agreement in the output power. A detailed analysis shows that the frequency shift arises mainly from inadequate CAD models in the K band, for the microstrip components employed in our design.

To overcome this drawback, a Markov fuzzy real-time demand-side manager (MARKOV FRDSM) is proposed to reduce the operating cost of the smart grid system and maintain a supply-demand balance in an uncertain environment. In addition, a non-linear model predictive controller (NMPC) is designed to give a global solution to the non-linear optimization problem with real-time requirements based on the uncertainties over the forecasted load demands and current load status. The proposed MARKOV FRDSM provides a faster scale power allocation concerning fuzzy optimization and deals with uncertainties and imprecision. The implemented results show the proposed MARKOV FRDSM model reduces the cost of operation of the microgrid by 1.95%, 1.16%, and 1.09% than the existing method such as differential evolution and real coded genetic algorithm and maintains the supply-demand balance in the microgrid.

As nonlinear optimization techniques are computationally expensive, their usage in the real-time era is constrained. So this is the main challenge for researchers to develop a fast algorithm that is used in real-time computations. This work proposes a fast nonlinear model predictive control approach based on particle swarm optimization for nonlinear optimization with constraints. The suggested algorithm divide and conquer technique improves computing speed and disturbance rejection capability, demonstrating its suitability for real-time applications. The performance of this approach under constraints is validated using a highly nonlinear fast and dynamic real-time inverted pendulum system. The solution presented through work is computationally feasible for smaller sampling times and it gives promising results compared to the state of art PSO algorithm

Foreign direct investment (FDI) is an important driver of countries' economic development. Factors such as looser environmental regulations may cause dirty FDI to flow mainly to developing countries. This is explained by the Pollution Haven Hypothesis. eTh paper aims to investigate whether the Pollution Haven Hypothesis is valid in Turkey using the nonlinear autoregressive distributed lag (NARDL) approach for the period 1974-2017. eTh results show that FDI inflows and carbon emissions have asymmetric eefcts in both the short and long term for Turkey, supporting the Pollution Haven Hypothesis. Furthermore, there is a link between carbon emissions and trade openness, manufacturing and economic growth. Policymakers should develop the policies necessary to transfer clean technologies to Turkey by providing improvements and technical advances for a more eficient energy use.

Opis:
This paper describes computationally efficient model predictive control (MPC) algorithms for nonlinear dynamic systems represented by discrete-time state-space models. Two approaches are detailed: in the first one the model is successively linearised on-line and used for prediction, while in the second one a linear approximation of the future process trajectory is directly found on-line. In both the cases, as a result of linearisation, the future control policy is calculated by means of quadratic optimisation. For state estimation, the extended Kalman filter is used. The discussed MPC algorithms, although disturbance state observers are not used, are able to compensate for deterministic constant-type external and internal disturbances. In order to illustrate implementation steps and compare the efficiency of the algorithms, a polymerisation reactor benchmark system is considered. In particular, the described MPC algorithms with on-line linearisation are compared with a truly nonlinear MPC approach with nonlinear optimisation repeated at each sampling instant.

This paper presents a numerical simulation of active vibration control of the Terfenol-D rad of a giant magnetostrictive transducer with nonlinear constitutive relations. In this control system, the goal is to suppress vibration of the displacement at the free end of the rod that is usually connected with a platform. Due to the inherent nonlinear relation among the applied magnetic field, pre-stress, and strain, the extension of the rod is also nonlinear relative to the external applications. Having an analytieal nonlinear constitutive model of the Terfenol-D rod proposed by the last author of this paper and the finite element method employed in the deformation analysis, we propose a numerical code to simulate the dynamic behavior of the control system when the negative displacement and velocity control law is utilized to feed back the signals to the actuator. The simulation results display that this control is more effective that other existing control algorithms based on linear constitutive models.

Model predictive control (MPC) algorithms brought increase of the control system performance in many applications thanks to relatively easily solving issues that are hard to solve without these algorithms. The paper is focused on investigating how to further improve the control system performance using a trajectory of parameters weighting predicted control errors in the performance function of the optimization problem. Different shapes of trajectories are proposed and their influence on control systems is tested. Additionally, experiments checking the influence of disturbances and of modeling uncertainty on control system performance are conducted. The case studies were done in control systems of three control plants: a linear non-minimumphase plant, a nonlinear polymerization reactor and a nonlinear thin film evaporator. Three types of MPC algorithms were used during research: linear DMC, nonlinear DMC with successive linearization (NDMC–SL), nonlinear DMC with nonlinear prediction and linearization (NDMC–NPL). Results of conducted experiments are presented in greater detail for the control system of the polymerization reactor, whereas for the other two control systems only the most interesting results are presented, for the sake of brevity. The experiments in the control system of the linear plant were done as preliminary experiments with the modified optimization problem. In the case of control system of the thin film evaporator the researched mechanisms were used in the control system of a MIMO plant showing possibilities of improving the control system performance.

So justification of existence and uniqueness of solutions, carried out a qualitative their evaluation, based on numerical analysis are considering in this paper. Also the features of dynamic processes of some of examined class of systems are analyzed. Methods of qualitative study of oscillations for restricted and unrestricted bodies under the influence of the resistance forces, described in this paper are based on the general principles of the theory of nonlinear boundary value problems – Galerkin method and the method of monotonicity. Scientific novelty consists in generalization these methods of studying for nonlinear problems at new classes of oscillating systems, justification of solution correctness for specified mathematical models that have practical application in real engineering vibration systems.

The nonlinear dynamic behavior has an important impact on energy dissipation and vibra- tion damping characteristics of bolted joints. Firstly, the development of tangential dynamic models is summarized and analyzed. Secondly, a five-parameter Iwan model based on a trun- cated power-law distribution is proposed. The backbone and hysteresis curves are obtained. Thirdly, normalized and dimensionless analysis is performed. On the basis of the above, a more concise four-parameter Iwan model with stiffness continuity is proposed. Finally, the validity of the model is verified by comparing the energy dissipation vs excitation force amplitude curve with the experimental data.

This paper presents the results of application of sequential quadratic programming to the estimation of the unknown composite load model parameters. Traditionally applied estimation methods, such as nonlinear least squares or genetic algorithms, suffer from a number of issues. Genetic algorithms exhibit premature convergence and require high computational resources and nonlinear least squares method is very sensitive to the initial guess and can diverge easily. This paper provides a comparison of all three methods based on computer-generated signals serving as field measurements. Accuracy and precision are assessed as well as computational requirements.

Opis:
Three of the most frequently used sigmoidal growth curves from the Richards family are the logistic model, Gompertz model and Richards model. They are used in the analysis of organismal growth over time in many disciplines/studies and were proposed in many parameterisations. Choosing the right parameterisation is not easy. The correct parameterisation of the model should take into account such parameters that are useful to describe the analysed growth phenomenon and are biologically relevant without additional calculations. In addition, each parameter of the model only affects one shape characteristic of each growth curve, which makes it possible to determine standard errors and confidence intervals using statistical software. Growth curves in germination dynamics studies should provide information on topics such as the length of the lag in onset of germination, the maximum germination rate and, when it occurs, the time at which 50% of seeds will germinate and the final germination proportion. In this article, we present three parameterisations of the logistic, Gompertz and Richards models and indicate two parameterisations for each model, corresponding to the abovementioned issues. Our proposition is parameterisation by taking into account the maximum absolute growth rate. Parameterisations indicated as useful for germination dynamics are characterised by the fact that each parameter has the same meaning in every model, so its estimates can be compared directly amongst the models. We also discussed the goodness-of-fit measures for nonlinear models and in particular measures of nonlinear behaviour of a model’s individual parameters as well as overall measures of nonlinearity. All described models were used to study the dynamics of the epicotyl emergence of pedunculate oak. After checking the close-to-linear behaviour of the studied model parameters and by taking into account the criteria of model selection (AICc of each growth curve and the residual variance [RV]), the best model describing the dynamics of epicotyl appearance of pedunculate oak was the Richards curve.

The determination was performed on the experimental results of the top basketball center player using repeated measurements and nonlinear mathematical models methods. Changes in maximum force were induced with 8 months of weight lifting training and analised with nonlinear regression analysis within 95% confidence interval. The results indicate that from all the models applied only the Asymptotic Regression, Michaelis-Menten and Gompertz Growth models had satisfactory performance and provided solid solutions to the given problem. This means that the models developed in this study properly and reliably determine the capacity and predicted changes in the maximum force (1 RM) for all eight monitored muscle groups.

To account for the load sequence effect, damage fatigue models with nonlinearity in propagation and accumulation have been developed. This paper reviews five classical nonlinear fatigue models used to predict the life times of concrete under variable amplitude loadings. Experimental results from literature are used to validate the five classical prediction models. It can be found that Hilsdorf and Kesler model yields unsafe or conservative predictions, and the other four models are more suitable for predicting life times of concrete. In this paper, the author used a new nonlinear damage model based on the nonlinear continuum damage mechanics to predict fatigue life of concrete. The model considers fatigue limit, loading parameters, the unseparable characteristics for the damage parameter and the load sequence effect. The validity of the nonlinear fatigue damage model is checked against tests from literature.

Opis:
A new two-stage approach to the identification of polynomial Wiener systems is proposed. It is assumed that the linear dynamic system is described by a transfer function model, the memoryless nonlinear element is invertible and the inverse nonlinear function is a polynomial. Based on these assumptions and by introducing a new extended parametrization, the Wiener model is transformed into a linear-in-parameters form. In Stage I, parameters of the transformed Wiener model are estimated using the least squares (LS) and instrumental variables (IV) methods. Although the obtained parameter estimates are consistent, the number of parameters of the transformed Wiener model is much greater than that of the original one. Moreover, there is no unique relationship between parameters of the inverse nonlinear function and those of the transformed Wiener model. In Stage II, based on the assumption that the linear dynamic model is already known, parameters of the inverse nonlinear function are estimated uniquely using the IV method. In this way, not only is the parameter redundancy removed but also the parameter estimation accuracy is increased. A numerical example is included to demonstrate the practical effectiveness of the proposed approach.
