We study the exact and approximate controllabilities of the Langevin equation describing the Brownian motion of particles with a white noise. The Langevin equation is shown to describe also the bacterial run-and-tumble motion. Applying the Green’s function approach to the Green’s function representation of the Langevin equation, we obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for exact controllability in the form of a finite-dimensional problem of moments. For the approximate controllability, we obtain only sufficient conditions. The sets of resolving controls are characterized in both cases. The theoretical derivations are supported by a numerical analysis.

In this paper we present the mathematical background of the four most used numerical methods of solving equations and few examples of Python applications that find the approximations of the roots of the given equations. We also compare the exact and approximate solutions of polynomial equations of third degree. Exact solutions are obtained with usage of Cardano formulae by the help of Mathematica environment, the approximate ones – based on the selected numerical methods by the help of applications written in Python language.

A class of neutral nonlinear differential equations is studied. Various classifications of their eventually positive solutions are given. Necessary and/or sufficient conditions are then derived for the existence of these eventually positive solutions. The derivations are based on two fixed point theorems as well as the method of successive approximations.

Opis:
Non-linear phenomena appear in many fields of engineering and science. Research on numerical methods is continually extending with the improvement of the latest computing tools. In today’s computational field, one requires maximum achievement in a minimum amount of time. Therefore, there is a need to modify the Newton-type method to achieve higher-order convergence to solve non-linear equations. While the modified methods are expected to be higher-order convergent, the minor computational information and the maximum time efficiency are also important factors. We propose a three-step hybrid iterative method having a non-linear nature. Per iteration, the method requires three function evaluations and three first-order derivatives. The method is theoretically proven to be tenth-order convergent. The mathematical results of the proposed strategy to solve models from fluid dynamics, electric field, and real gases demonstrated better performance. In light of error analysis, computational productivity, and CPU times, the proposed method’s performance is compared to the famous Newton and a recently proposed tenth-order method.

Opis:
Our goal is to study the Pareto optimal control system for a nonlinear one-dimensional extensible beam equation and its Galerkin approximation. First we consider a mathematical model of the beam equation which was obtained by S. Woinowsky-Krieger in 1950. Next we consider the Pareto optimal control problem based on this equation. Further, we describe the approximation of this system. We use the Galerkin method to approximate the solution of this control problem with respect to a spatial variable. Based on the standard finite dimensional approximation we prove that as the discretization parameters tend to zero then the weak accumulation point of the solutions of the discrete optimal control problems exist and each of these points is the solution of the original Pareto optimal control problem.

In this paper we use fixed point methods to prove asymptotic stability results of the zero solution of a class of totally nonlinear neutral differential equations with functional delay. The study concerns $x^\prime (t)= -a(t)x^3(t) + c(t)x^\prime (t-r(t)) + b(t) x^3 (t-r(t)) $. The equation has proved very challenging in the theory of Liapunov’s direct method. The stability results are obtained by means of Krasnoselskii-Burton’s theorem and they improve on the work of T.A. Burton (see Theorem 4 in [Liapunov functionals, fixed points, and stability by Krasnoselskii’s theorem, Nonlinear Studies 9 (2001), 181–190]) in which he takes c=0 in the above equation

The paper presents the strategy for identifying the shape of defects in the domain defined in the boundary value problem modelled by the nonlinear differential equation. To solve the nonlinear problem in the iterative process the PIES method and its ad-vantages were used: the efficient way of the boundary and the domain modelling and global integration. The identification was performed using the genetic algorithm, where in connection with the efficiency of PIES we identify the small number of data required to the defect’s definition. The strategy has been tested for different shapes of defects.
