Opis:
This article investigates stress and induced temperature in an isotropic, homogeneous, thermoelastic half-space using a two-temperature generalized thermoelasticity model. The bounding plane surface of the present half-space continuum is subjected to a non-Gaussian laser pulse. Laplace’s transform space is considered to deduce a closed-form solution to the problem. In addition, the inversions of Laplace’s transformations have been carried numerically to obtain field quantities in the transient state. The effects of parameters of two-temperature, laser-pulse and laser intensity are investigated. A concluding remark for the graphical forms of the derived expressions is presented.

Opis:
Statistical approach to Control Performance Assessment (CPA) is of great practical importance. This is particularly visible in process industry, where there are many PID loops. They are often assessed with measures derived from the Gaussian probabilistic density function. Standard deviation, variance, skewness or kurtosis form the majority of applied indexes. The review of data originating from process industry shows, however, to the contrary, that these signals have rather non-Gaussian properties and are mostly characterized by fat-tailed distribution disable the ability. Investigations show that strong disturbances may significantly disable the capacity of proper assessment. Standard measures often fail in such cases. It is shown that non-Gaussian measures can help with this problem. Various disturbances are tested and compared. Results show that fat-tailed distributions are an interesting alternative. They are less sensitive to disturbance shadowing and still make possible loop dynamic assessment.

In this paper, the two-temperature thermoelasticity model is proposed to a specific problem of a thermoelastic semi-infinite solid. The bounding plane surface of the semi-infinite solid is considered to be under a non-Gaussian laser pulse. Generalized thermoelasticity analysis with dual-phase-lags is taken into account to solve the present problem. Laplace transform and its inversion techniques are applied and an analytical solution as well as its numerical outputs of the field variables are obtained. The coupled theory and other generalized theory with one relaxation time may be derived as special cases. Comparison examples have been made to show the effect of dual-phase-lags, temperature discrepancy, laser-pulse and laser intensity parameters on all felids. An additional comparison is also made with the theory of thermoelasticity at a single temperature.

Opis:
The expansion of logarithm likelihood ratio in the stochastic series to find the sequential change-point detection of non-Gaussian sequences is used. The moment criteria of the minimum of upper limit error probabilities sum to find the expansion coefficients is applied. The proposed method is a semi-parametric type of cumulative sum (CUSUM) algorithm which needs of higher-order statistics. Results show that polynomial algorithms are more effective in comparison with similar non-parametric procedures.

The well-known problem with the fatigue lifetime assessment of non-Gaussian loading signals with the use of spectral method has been presented in the paper. A correction factors that transform the non-Gaussian signal into an equivalent Gaussian signal proposed by Bracessi et al. (2009) has been used for the purpose of lifetime calculations together with Palmgren-Miner Hypothesis. The calculations have been performed for the 10HNAP steel under random non-Gaussian load with four dominating frequencies. The signal has been generated on the test stand SHM250 for random tension-compression tests. The results with zero and non-zero mean stresses have been used to calculate the fatigue life with the frequency domain method based on Dirlik’s model and with a time domain method with the use of the rainflow cycle counting algorithm. The obtained calculation results have been compared with experimental results.

This paper presents an alternative approach to the task of control performance assessment. Various statistical measures based on Gaussian and non-Gaussian distribution functions are evaluated. The analysis starts with the review of control error histograms followed by their statistical analysis using probability distribution functions. Simulation results obtained for a control system with the generalized predictive controller algorithm are considered. The proposed approach using Cauchy and Lévy α-stable distributions shows robustness against disturbances and enables effective control loop quality evaluation. Tests of the predictive algorithm prove its ability to detect the impact of the main controller parameters, such as the model gain, the dynamics or the prediction horizon.

The BeiDou navigation satellite system (BDS) is one of the four global navigation satellite systems. More attention has been paid to the positioning algorithm of the BDS. Based on the study on the Kalman filter (KF) algorithm, this paper proposed a novel algorithm for the BDS, named as the minimum dispersion coefficient criteria Kalman filter (MDCCKF) positioning algorithm. The MDCCKF algorithm adopts minimum dispersion coefficient criteria (MDCC) to remove the influence of noise with an alpha-stable distribution (ASD) model which can describe non-Gaussian noise effectively, especially for the pulse noise in positioning. By minimizing the dispersion coefficient of the positioning error, the MDCCKF assures positioning accuracy under both Gaussian and non-Gaussian environment. Compared with the original KF algorithm, it is shown that the MDCCKF algorithm has higher positioning accuracy and robustness. The MDCCKF algorithm provides insightful results for potential future research.

This paper considers the properties of a minimum variance self-tuning tracker for MIMO systems described by ARMAX models. It is assumed that the stochastic noise has a non-Gaussian distribution. Such an assumption introduces into a recursive algorithm a nonlinear transformation of the prediction error. The system under consideration is minimum phase with different dimensions for input and output vectors. In the paper the concept of Kronecker’s product is used, which allows us to represent unknown parameters in the form of vectors. For parameter estimation a stochastic approximation algorithm is employed. Using the concept of the stochastic Lyapunov function, global stability and optimality of the feedback system are established.

Przedstawiono sposób wyznaczania estymatorów wartości i niepewności menzurandu niekonwencjonalną metodą maksymalizacji wielomianu stochastycznego (PMM) dla próbki danych pomiarowych pobranych z populacji modelowanej zmienną losową o rozkładzie niesymetrycznym. W metodzie PMM stosuje się statystykę wyższego rzędu i opis z użyciem momentów lub kumulantów. Wyznaczono wyrażenia analityczne dla estymatorów wartości i niepewności standardowej typu A menzurandu za pomocą wielomianu stopnia r = 2. Niepewność standardowa wartości menzurandu otrzymana metodą PPM zależy od skośności i kurtozy rozkładu. Jest ona mniejsza od średniej arytmetycznej wyznaczanej wg przewodnika GUM i bliższa wartości teoretycznej dla rozkładu populacji danych. Jeśli rozkład ten jest nieznany, to estymatory momentów i kumulantów wyznacza się z danych pomiarowych próbki. Sprawdzono skuteczność metody PMM dla kilku podstawowych rozkładów.
The non-standard method for evaluating estimators of the value and uncertainty type A for measurement data sampled from asymmetrical distributed with a priori partial description (unknown PDF) is presented. This method of statistical estimation is based on the mathematical apparatus of stochastic polynomials maximization and uses the higher-order statistics (moment & cumulant description) of random variables. The analytical expressions for finding estimates and analyze their accuracy to the degree of the polynomial r = 2 are obtained. It is shown that the uncertainty of estimates received for polynomial is generally less than the uncertainty of estimates obtained based on the mean (arithmetic average) according international guide GUM. Reducing the uncertainty of measurement depends on the skewness and kurtosis. On the basis of the Monte Carlo method carried out statistical modelling. Their results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Opis:
This paper addresses fault-tolerant control for position mooring of a shuttle or floating production storage and offloading vessels. A complete framework for fault diagnosis is presented. A loss of a sub-sea mooring line buoyancy element and line breakage are given particular attention, since such failures might cause high-risk abortion of an oil-loading operation. With significant drift forces from waves, non-Gaussian elements dominate forces and the residuals designed for fault diagnosis. Hypothesis testing is designed using dedicated change detection for the type of distribution encountered. A new position recovery algorithm is proposed as a means of fault accommodation in order to keep the mooring system in a safe state, despite faults. The position control is shown to be capable of accommodating serious failures and preventing breakage of a mooring line, or a loss of a buoyancy element, from causing subsequent failures. Properties of the detection and fault-tolerant control algorithms are demonstrated by high fidelity simulations.

The purpose of this paper is to study the thermoviscoelastic interactions in a homogeneous, isotropic semi-infinite solid under two-temperature theory with heat source. The Kelvin-Voigt model of linear viscoelasticity which describes the viscoelastic nature of the material is used. The bounding plane surface of the medium is subjected to a non-Gaussian laser pulse. The generalized thermoelasticity theory with dual phase lags model is used to solve this problem. Laplace transform technique is used to obtain the general solution for a suitable set of boundary conditions. Some comparisons have been shown in figures to estimate the effects of the phase lags, viscosity, temperature discrepancy, laser-pulse and the laser intensity parameters on all the studied fields. A comparison was also made with the results obtained in the case of one temperature thermoelasticity theory.

Opis:
An efficient tensor approach is used to study the propagation of partially coherent cosh-Gaussian beams through an ABCD optical system in non-Kolmogorov turbulence. Analytical expressions for the average intensity of the beam propagation are derived. The properties of the average intensity are investigated with a numerical example. One finds that the propagation of the beam with larger spatial coherence length is less affected by distance when the propagation distance is long enough, and as the Ch-parameter increases, the beam propagation is less effected by turbulent atmosphere. It is also found that the average intensity distribution of the cosh-Gaussian beams with larger spatial correlation length is more affected by the structure constant of turbulence (i.e., turbulence level). By choosing a suitable Ch-parameter and spatial coherence length, the partially coherent cosh-Gaussian beams can be better transmitted in non-Kolmogorov turbulence. Our results will be useful in free-space communication.

Image restoration is the process of estimating the original image content from a degraded picture. In this paper, the Richardson-Lucy iterative algorithm was developed to improve the quality of degraded medical images. It has been assumed that medical images are exposed to two types of degradation. The first type is the blur function in the Gaussian form with different widths, i.e. σ = 1 , 2, and 3. The second type of degradation was assumed to be of the independent white Gaussian noise type with different signal-to-noise ratio values: SNR = 10, 50 , and 100. The results obtained from the adaptive filter are compared, quantitatively, with different conventional filters: inverse, Wiener, and constraint least square, by applying different measures, such as: power signal to noise ratio (PSNR), structural similarity index (SSID), and root mean square error (RMSE). The comparison showed that the adaptive recovery filter achieves better results.
