Opis:
Tracking of the noise signal in noise measurements needs special techniques. The difference between object and background noise is defined, using the noise distribution. The proposed technique is based on the model of the background noise. The window based approach is used for input signal preprocessing. The comparison of two distributions - empirical and observed is used. The global distribution is obtained using all measurements and the observed distribution is computed in the window area only. Minimal chi-square statistic is used as comparison criteria and results are processed by Spatio-Temporal Track-Before-Detect algorithm for tracking of the dynamic of the object and improved signal denoising. A few examples are shown for different objects that show possibilities of the proposed solution. Mean value suppression is possible using comparison of both distributions, what is important in application where the background estimation is not ideal.

Opis:
Passive radar does not have its own emitter. It uses so-called signals of opportunity emitted by non-cooperative illuminators. During the detection of reflected signals, a direct signal from a non-cooperative emitter is used as the reference signal. Detection of electromagnetic echoes is, in present day radars, performed by finding the maximum of the cross ambiguity function. This function is based on the multiplication of the received signal and the reference signal. Detection of echoes by means of a quadrature microwave phase discriminator QMPD was proposed in the work as an alternative solution for ambiguity function evaluation. This discriminator carries out vectorial summing of the received and the reference signals. The summing operations in QMPD are carried out with the aid of microwave elements and without the use of expensive digital signal processors. Definitions of the phase and phase difference of the so-called simple signals and noise signals were described. A proposal of a passive radar equipped with several independent quadrature microwave phase discriminators was presented. Ideas of algorithms of object detection and of the distance-to-object estimation designed for this radar have been also sketched.

Opis:
The implementation of the chi-square preprocessing algorithm for further track-before-detect (TBD) algorithm processing is considered in this paper. It allows real-time processing of noise objects that are disturbed by the other noise. The pipeline processing is proposed for optimization of local chi-square value computation using vertical movement of windows. The performance of CUDA based implementation for 2D tracking scenarios is shown for TBD and chi-square processing kernels
6) i chi-kwadrat (rys. 7) dla śledzenia 2D.

Opis:
Noise induced hearing loss (NIHL) is a serious occupational related health problem worldwide. The A-wave impulse noise could cause severe hearing loss, and characteristics of such kind of impulse noise in the joint time-frequency (T-F) domain are critical for evaluation of auditory hazard level. This study focuses on the analysis of A-wave impulse noise in the T-F domain using continual wavelet transforms. Three different wavelets, referring to Morlet, Mexican hat, and Meyer wavelets, were investigated and compared based on theoretical analysis and applications to experimental generated A-wave impulse noise signals. The underlying theory of continuous wavelet transform was given and the temporal and spectral resolutions were theoretically analyzed. The main results showed that the Mexican hat wavelet demonstrated significant advantages over the Morlet and Meyer wavelets for the characterization and analysis of the A-wave impulse noise. The results of this study provide useful information for applying wavelet transform on signal processing of the A-wave impulse noise.

Chinese is a tonal language, which differentiates it from non-tonal languages in the Western countries. A Chinese character consists of an initial, a final, and a tone. In the present study, the effects of noise and reverberation on the Chinese syllable, initial, final, and tone identification in rooms were investigated by using simulated binaural impulse responses through auralization method. The results show that the syllable identification score is the lowest, the tone identification score is the highest, and the initial iden- tification scores are lower than those of the final identification under the same reverberation time and signal-to-noise ratio condition. The Chinese syllable, initial, and final identification scores increase with the increase of signal-to-noise ratio and decrease of the reverberation time. The noise and reverberation have insignificant effects on the Chinese tone identification scores under most room acoustical environ- ments. The statistical relationship between the Chinese syllable articulation and phoneme articulation had been experimentally proved under different noise and reverberation conditions in simulated rooms.

Opis:
The Lombard effect is an involuntary increase in the speaker’s pitch, intensity, and duration in the presence of noise. It makes it possible to communicate in noisy environments more effectively. This study aims to investigate an efficient method for detecting the Lombard effect in uttered speech. The influence of interfering noise, room type, and the gender of the person on the detection process is examined. First, acoustic parameters related to speech changes produced by the Lombard effect are extracted. Mid-term statistics are built upon the parameters and used for the self-similarity matrix construction. They constitute input data for a convolutional neural network (CNN). The self-similarity-based approach is then compared with two other methods, i.e., spectrograms used as input to the CNN and speech acoustic parameters combined with the k-nearest neighbors algorithm. The experimental investigations show the superiority of the self-similarity approach applied to Lombard effect detection over the other two methods utilized. Moreover, small standard deviation values for the self-similarity approach prove the resulting high accuracies.

An attempt was made to describe the quality of the stacked seismic data semi-quantitatively with respect to the spacing of shot and receiver lines. The methods used included: signal-to-noise ratio calculation, seismic-to-well tie accuracy, wavelet extraction effectiveness and reliability of semi-automated interpretation of seismic attributes. This study was focused on the Ordovician-Silurian interval of the Lublin Basin, Poland, as it was considered as a main target for the exploration of unconventional hydrocarbon deposits. Our results reconfirm the obvious dependency between the density of the acquisition parameters and data quality. However, we also discovered that the seismic data quality is less affected by the shot line spacing than by comparable receiver line spacing. We attributed this issue to the fact of the higher irregularity of the shot points than receiver points, imposed by the terrain accessibility. We have also proven that the regularity of receiver and shot point distribution is crucial for the reliable interpretation of structural seismic attributes, since these were found to be highly sensitive to the acquisition geometry.

The quality of machine components surfaces plays an important impact on their functional performance. Product performance may be restricted by changes to surface integrity, which includes changes to roughness, hardness, and microstructure. In this research, the impact of cutting variables in CNC turning under the conventional cooling condition on surface hardness of Duplex Stainless Steel. Cutting variables under conventional cooling, including cutting speed, feed, and depth of cut, have been optimized utilizing Taguchi’s L9 orthogonal array designed with three stages of turning variables. The optimal variable stages and the degree of significance of the cutting variables, respectively, were determined utilizing the analysis of means (ANOM) and analysis of variance (ANOVA). Effectiveness tests with optimum stages of variables were done to prove the viability of optimization by utilizing Taguchi. It has been found that the maximum surface hardness is most strongly affected by the feed 71.29%, followed by the depth of cut 12.1%, and finally the cutting speed 11.61%.

Three different reverberation time (RT) conditions were obtained by room acoustical simulation. The working memory span of grades 3 (8 to 9 years old) and 6 children (11 to 12 years old) was tested under these reverberation conditions with different signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) by headphone reproduction in a quiet classroom. The working memory span scores (WMSSs) were obtained under the different RTs and SNRs conditions. The results demonstrated that children’s age, RT and SNR had significant effect on children’s WMSSs. With the increase of SNR and the decrease of RT, the WMSSs increased gradually. Under the same SNR and RT condition, the children’s WMSSs were increased with the increase of their age. Multiple linear regression analysis shows that children’s WMSSs are related to age, RT and SNR, and the correlation coefficient is 0.99.

Underwater Wireless Sensor Networks are deployed to explore the world under the water, measure different parameters and communicate the data to the surface, in the widespread applications. The main operating technology of these networks is the acoustic communication. The communication among the sensors and finally to the surface station requires a routing protocol. The sensors being battery limited and unfeasible to be replaced under the water requires an energy efficient routing protocol. Clustering imparted in routing is an energy saving technique in sensor networks. The routing may involve single or multi hop communication in the sensor networks. The paper gives a comparative study of the benchmark protocol multi-hop LEACH with the proposed Sensor Hop-based Energy Efficient Networking Approach (SHEENA) for the shallow as well as deep water in three dimensional Underwater Wireless Sensor Networks. The network energy model for the Underwater Wireless Sensor Networks is based among the different acoustic channel characteristics. The proposed approach is found to give better response.

In this method, a histogram with multiple samples for reset level is used to estimate the amplitude of the RTS noise. With the median of the histogram and the estimated amplitude, the RTS noise components are removed and the average is calculated with the histogram due to thermal noise only, to further reduce the noise level. Nowadays, underwater image identification is a challenging task for many researchers focusing on various ap plications, such as tracking fish species, monitoring coral reef species, and counting marine species. Because underwater im ages frequently suffer from distortion and light attenuation, pre-processing steps are required in order to enhance their quality. In this paper, we used multiple edge detection techniques to determine the edges of the underwater images. The pictures were pre-processed with the use of specific techniques, such as enhancement processing, Wiener filtering, median filtering and thresholding. Coral reef pictures were used as a dataset of underwater images to test the efficiency of each edge detection method used in the experiment. All coral reef image datasets were captured using an underwater GoPro camera. The performance of each edge detection technique was evaluated using mean square error (MSE) and peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR). The lowest MSE value and the highest PSNR value represent the best quality of underwater images. The results of the experiment showed that the Canny edge detection technique outperformed other approaches used in the course of the project.
