Opis:
The paper presents the results of the noise propagation analysis in ship structures tested in a number of AHTS (Anchor Handling Tug Supply) vessels. Statistical Energy Analysis (SEA) based on numerical model developed specially for the purpose of this numerical investigation were conducted. This numerical model enabled the analysis of both the structural elements and the acoustic spaces. For the detailed studies 47 points fixed at various ship locations were selected. Prediction results with use of the numerical model were compared with the experimental results carried out in six identical AHTS vessels. Experimental studies were performed in accordance with the requirements of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Resolution A.468 (XII). As a result one presented a comparison of the model analysis and experimental tests results.

Opis:
The paper deals with the preparation and measurement of an experimental polymer graphite cathode that seems to be a promising and cheap source of electrons utilizing cold field-emission in high- and ultra-high vacuum. Polymer graphite seems to be a proper material as it contains a large amount of hybridized carbon with a low degree of surface oxidation and silicon monoxide (SiO). Within the frame of this work, a special experimental method of tip preparation has been designed and tuned. This method is based on ion milling inside a dual-beam electron microscope enabling to obtain ultra-sharp tips of a diameter smaller than 100 nm with a predefined opening angle. The charge transport within experimental samples is evaluated based on results provided by the noise spectroscopy of the total emission current in the time and frequency domains.

In this paper there is presented and discussed a general analysis method for noise characterization of noisy multiport differential networks. It is based on mixed mode, differential and common mode, noise waves representation of noise, generalized mixed-mode scattering parameters and generalized mixed-mode noise wave correlation parameters for the network. There are derived analytical relation between the noise figure for a given output port and the noise matrix and the scattering parameters of the network, as well as the correlations between the input port noise waves. The signal to noise ratio degradation factor is derived and discussed, too. Presented results can be implemented directly in a CAD software noise analysis of differential microwave multiport networks with differential as well as with conventional single ended ports.

In the modern geodesy the role of the permanent station is growing constantly. The proper treatment of the time series from such station lead to the determination of the reliable velocities. In this paper we focused on some pre-analysis as well as analysis issues, which have to be performed upon the time series of the North, East and Up components and showed the best, in our opinion, methods of determination of periodicities (by means of Singular Spectrum Analysis) and spatio-temporal correlations (Principal Component Analysis), that still exist in the time series despite modelling. Finally, the velocities of the selected European permanent stations with the associated errors determined following power-law assumption in the stochastic part is presented.

Opis:
On the railroads in seismically active regions, the impact of frequent weak earthquakes accelerates the initiation of defects such as wear and tear, cracks and deformation due to fatigue. An analysis of the types and stages of initiation and development of defects preceding accidents at technical facilities has shown that the registration of the beginning of the latent period of transition of objects to an emergency state based on the results of traditional technologies of analysis of measurement information in the applied control systems in the field of railway transport is delayed owing to the difficulties of noise analysis. The proposed algorithms and noise analysis technologies allow forming corresponding sets of informative attributes to control the beginning of the latent period of accidents. Their use in intelligent noise control systems will improve the safety of this mode of transportation. To this end, it is expedient to create a subsystem for noise seismic hazard warning, i.e., a subsystem for noise control of the onset of the initiation and dynamics of development of changes in the technical condition of the rolling stock, railroad tracks, bridges, tunnels, and other railroad infrastructure facilities.

In this paper, the applications of the multivariate data analysis and optimization on vibration signals from compressors have been tested on the assembly line to identify nonconforming products. The multivariate analysis has wide applicability in the optimization of weather forecasting, agricultural experiments, or, as in this case study, in quality control. The techniques of discriminant analysis and linear program were used to solve the problem. The acceleration and velocity signals used in this work were measured in twenty-five rotating compressors, of which eleven were classified as good baseline compressors and fourteen with manufacturing defects by the specialists in the final acoustic test of the production line. The results obtained with the discriminant analysis separated the conforming and nonconforming groups with a significance level of 0.01, which validated the proposed methodology.

Opis:
In the current study, investigations are made to control the MB truck cabin interior noise by reducing noise in the transmission path. The main sources of cabin noise include the engine, exhaust system, air inlet system, driveline system, and tyres (especially at higher speeds). Furthermore, vibrations of the body and interior parts of the truck may significantly impact the overall in-cabin sound level. Noise is transmitted into the cabin via air (airborne noise) and cabin structure (structure-borne noise). In the noise treatment phase, noise transmission paths are considered. A viscoelastic layer damping material is used to reduce the vibration amplitude of the cabin back wall. The overall loss factor and vibration amplitude reduction ratio for the structure treated is calculated. Computational results are then compared with the values obtained by the experimental modal analysis results. Choosing the suitable material and thickness can significantly reduce the vibration amplitude. A sound barrier, silicon adhesive, and foam are also utilised for noise control in the transmission path. The effectiveness of the mentioned acoustic materials on cabin noise reduction is evaluated experimentally. The experimental SPL values are reported in the frequency range of 20 Hz–20 kHz based on a 1/3 octave filter. The experimental results show that using acoustics materials reduces the overall in-cabin sound level for a wide range of frequencies.

Opis:
Objectives Hearing loss is a major worldwide health issue affecting an estimated 1.5 billion people. Causes of hearing loss include genetics, chemicals, medications, lifestyle habits such as smoking, and noise. Noise is probably the largest contributing factor for hearing loss. Noise arises from the workplace, ambient environment, and leisure activities. The easiest noise sources to control are workplace and environmental. Workplace noise is unique in that the employer is responsible for the noise and the worker. Also, workers may be exposed to much higher levels of noise than they would accept elsewhere. Employers follow the traditional hierarchy of controls (substitution/engineering, administrative, personal protective equipment [PPE]). Substituting or engineering a lower noise level actually reduces the hazard present to the worker but demand more capital investment. Administrative and PPE controls can be effective, but enforcement and motivation are essential to reducing risk and there is still some hearing loss for a portion of the workers. The challenge is to estimate the costs more clearly for managers. A systems engineering approach can help visualize factors affecting hearing health. Material and Methods In this study, a systems engineering causal loop diagram (CLD) was developed to aid in understanding factors and their interrelationships. The CLD was then modeled in VenSim. The model was informed from the authors’ expertise in hearing health and exposure science. Also, a case study was used to test the model. The model can be used to inform decision-makers of holistic costs for noise control options, with potentially better hearing health outcomes for workers. Results The CLD and cost model demonstrated a 4.3 year payback period for the engineered noise control in the case study. Conclusions Systems thinking using a CLD and cost model for occupational hearing health controls can aid organizational managers in applying resources to control risk.

The assessment of uncertainties of a two-port noise parameters measurement, presented in the paper, relies on modeling of sources of errors and an investigation of propagation of the errors through a measurement system. This approach is based on a simplified additive error model and small-change sensitivity analysis. The evaluated uncertainties agrees with those observed in experiments. This method may be implemented in automatic noise measurement systems for on-line uncertainty assessment and for optimization of the design of an experiment.

Opis:
The assessment of the uncertainty of measurement results, an essential problem in environmental acoustic investigations, is undertaken in the paper. An attention is drawn to the – usually omitted – problem of the verification of assumptions related to using the classic methods of the confidence intervals estimation, for the controlled measuring quantity. Especially the paper directs attention to the need of the verification of the assumption of the normal distribution of the measuring quantity set, being the base for the existing and binding procedures of the acoustic measurements assessment uncertainty. The essence of the undertaken problem concerns the binding legal and standard acts related to acoustic measurements and recommended in: ‘Guide to the expression of uncertainty in measurement’ (GUM) (OIML 1993), developed under the aegis of the International Bureau of Measures (BIPM). The model legitimacy of the hypothesis of the normal distribution of the measuring quantity set in acoustic measurements is discussed and supplemented by testing its likelihood on the environment acoustic results. The Jarque-Bery test based on skewness and flattening (curtosis) distribution measures was used for the analysis of results verifying the assumption. This test allows for the simultaneous analysis of the deviation from the normal distribution caused both by its skewness and flattening. The performed experiments concerned analyses of the distribution of sound levels: LD, LE, LN, LDWN, being the basic noise indicators in assessments of the environment acoustic hazards.

Condition monitoring is technique used to monitor the condition of an equipment or machinery without interrupting it working. Condition monitoring techniques are carried out when the machine is in operation. Most widely used condition monitoring techniques include vibration monitoring, motor current signature analysis, noise monitoring and wear debris analysis. Vibration monitoring detects the presence of unbalanced forces generated due to misalignment, damaged bearing, electrical defects and resonance. Motor current signature analysis is used to determine the defects in motor by analyzing the spectrum generated by the tongue tester. Noise monitoring is performed with the help of acoustic noise meter and wear debris is done to determine the contamination level of lubrication oil in various engines. These techniques are found to be highly efficient in determining the defects of the systems like pump at an early stage. A detailed study on these condition monitoring techniques has been carried out in this paper and also the methods for analysis of the results obtained from these tests are also discussed.
