Opis:
Structural analysis of the Miocene deposits of the northern marginal part of the Carpathian Foredeep, from the Nida Trough in the west to Tarnobrzeg in the east shows that three tectonic phases affected Neogene deposits of the Carpathian Foredeep: (1) an Early Styrian phase - Early Badenian synsedimentary movements, (2) a Moldavian phase (Late-Styrian) - Early/Late Badenian, after deposition of gypsum and during deposition of the lower part of the Pecten Beds, (3) an Attican phase - Sarmatian-Pliocene(?), after deposition of the Krakowiec Beds. The two Badenian phases involved reactivation of NW-SE basement faults Early-Styrian phase activity along these faults resulted in facies changes and thickness variability in the Baranów Beds. Reactivation of these faults during the Moldavian phase resulted in a considerable increase of their throws. Strata in the footwalls of faults were antithetically rotated to form structural traps for subsequent hydrocarbon and sulphur deposits. During the Attican phase, a horizontal compression stress field (compression direction - 30-50°) produced transverse and oblique faults (NE-SW and ENE-WSW) with strike-slip and oblique-slip movements. These faults were responsible for "pumping" hydrocarbons into the earlier formed traps. Minor deformations within gypsum deposits and seismotectonic features of the Witów Gravels are also discussed.

Opis:
During many years’ research, the stratigraphy of Quaternary deposits in the area surrounding Konin has elaborated. In the young Quaternary strata the Eemian fossil lakeland was established and the exposed Mikorzyn section was found. Previous geological and palynological analyses of the site prove a nearly complete sequence of Eemian and Vistulian deposits. Furthermore, archival records of drill cores indicate that older interglacial sediments may also have been deposited about 10 metres deeper in this particular area. To test this possibility, a relatively deep test borehole—Mikorzyn 1 was carried out in the distance about 70 metres only. The sedimentological and palynological core analyses prove the Eemian age of examined organic materials. The borehole, established only the presence of ca.10 m offset in the bottom part of the Eemian strata. This fact, as well as other faults and Tertiary coal injections into glacial sediments, confirmed the occurrence of neotectonic activity.

Opis:
In the recent decade a number of data of different investigations (pollen, diatom, molluscs analysis, lithological investigations, dating by methods of absolute geochronology, etc.) have been collected during the large-scale geological mapping of Lithuanian Maritime region (Lithuanian Coast). The results of investigations confirmed that there were three Littorina Sea transgressions at the Lithuanian Coast: the first manifested approximately in 8500-7800 conventional 14C years BP, the second (maximal) - in 6200-5900 and the third - in 5300-4000 conv. 14C years BP. The Post-Littorina Sea maximum was in about 3600-3400 conv. 14C years BP. The Littorina Sea shoreline displacement curves were carried out. The present-day positions of shorelines of the Littorina Sea as well as other Baltic basins are displaced in different altitudes in separate parts of the Lithuanian Coast due to oscillatory neotectonic movements of Earth crust blocks during Late Glacial and Holocene.

Rio Colca Valley
Opis:
Tectonic faults run along the margins of the Río Colca valley (incised in lacustrine sediments) in the Central Andes of Peru. The faults were studied at localities Madrigal, Coporaque, Chivay and Maca, where they have characteristics of normal and reverse dip-slip faults. Their geometrical parameters indicate that the valley is a graben bounded by the studied faults. The fault pattern has been compared with theoretical geotectonic models (Fig. 10A- C). As the visible curvatures and slopes of the fault surfaces are representative only for their exposed fragments, they are not sufficient for unanimous recognition of the graben form and for the selection of the proper model. It has been ascertained that the faults are young, because they deform Quaternary sediments. It is possible that they are linked to the older faults and are their continuation in the younger structural stage.

Opis:
The results of geological, geomorphic and hydrogeological research indicate spatially variable neotectonic activity of the Ukrainian part of the Roztocze region. This activity is confirmed by analysis of some geometric and morphometric coefficients (especially drainage basin elongation ratio, drainage basin circulatory ratio, drainage basin shape and lemniscate coefficient), which were calculated for 1646 drainage areas of the 3rd to 6th order, and morphometric linear coefficients (mountain-front sinuosity index and valley floor width-valley height ratio coefficient), which characterise the fault scarps. The south-western margin of the Rava Roztocze and Yaniv Roztocze regions, following NW-SE-trending faults, belongs to structures of the 1st or 2nd class of relative tectonic activity. On the other hand, in the north-eastern marginal zone in the Ukrainian part of the Roztocze region, a relatively active segment comprised between Maheriv and Zhashkiv shows a characteristic NW-SE orientation of valleys, controlled by a network of secondary sub-parallel faults. In the southern part of the analysed area, the Stavchanka River drainage basin related to the NW-striking fault zone, and the sub-parallel edge of the zone of the Vereshytsia-upper Mlynivka transverse depression are relatively active. Some relatively inactive areas are those of smaller drainage basins of the 3rd to 6th order, located within the zone of the main watershed between the Rata and Lubaczówka rivers in the Rava Roztocze region and the Zubra and Poltva rivers in the Lviv Roztocze region.

Opis:
The East Carpathian Foothills of Poland witnessed two episodes of relief planation in the Pliocene, followed by formation of Early Pleistocene strath terraces preserved on flat-topped meander spurs in the San River valley at altitudes of 100-120 m above recent floodplains. In the following stages, intense erosion produced of a flight of strath terraces that are provisionally dated to the Narevian or Sanian-1 (Menapian or Elsterian-1; 75-80 m), Sanian-2 (Elsterian-2; 40-60 m), Odranian and Wartanian (Drenthe, Warthe; 20-30 m), and Vistulian (Weichse- lian; 8-16 m) times. During glacial stages, solifluction deposits mantled the feet of gentle slopes being coeval with fluvial deposition and accumulation of loesses and loess-like sediments on either side of the San River valley, particularly intense in the Weichselian. Interglacial warmings fostered downcutting of the pre-existing fluvial sediments as well as formation of fossil soils within loess sequences and deposition of peat in abandoned channels. In the Late Pleistocene and at the beginning of the Holocene, diversified tectonic movements took place leading to displacement of Weichselian and Holocene straths. During the Holocene, in turn, cut-and-fill terrace steps were shaped, organogenic sediments filled abandoned channels and oxbow lakes, and slopes became re-modelled by landslides and slopewash. The pattern of different types of relief, together with spatial distribution of topolineaments and some photolineaments in the eastern portion of the Polish Outer Carpathians, has been shaped due to mutual interactions between climatic, lithologic and tectonic factors. Well-pronounced topolineaments either follow fault-related zones of weakness, are associated with dense network of extensional cross-fold joints, or indicate recent reactiva-tion of some faults and/or joint sets.

Bochnia salt deposit is situated in the northern part of the Bochnia anticline. This anticline is the result of Carpathian overthrust activities over the Badenian formation (Poborski, 1952). The subject of the studies was the Lobkowicz Gallery. The Crosscuts 1 and 2 were geologically mapped in the chosen parts of the gallery. In addition several rock samples for various studies have been taken. One of the enterolithic anhydrite was cut and polished to be examinated in transmitted light. Researches prove that the present geological structure of the Lobkowicz Gallery in the Bochnia Salt Mine have been formed by tectonic movements which took place during the Carpathian overthrusting over the Miocene formations as well as in present times.
