Opis:
In this paper, we present a simple near-field probe model that is composed of an elongated ellipsoid and a finite metal truncated cone. The elongated ellipsoid has been shown to act as a protrusion or separate particle near a truncated cone apex with strong near-field enhancement under laser excitation. By controllably varying the length of the ellipsoid protrusion from the truncated cone, the truncated cone-ellipsoid probes can be adapted to the suitability of near-field probes. The effects of substrate material and excitation wavelength on the near field enhancement for different tip apexes are also discussed. In addition, we compared the properties of the truncated cone-ellipsoid probe with the widely used hemisphere conical tip by launching surface plasmon polaritons on plasmonic waveguides to prove the suitability of the truncated cone-ellipsoid probes as high performance near-field probes. The present simple model would provide a theoretical basis for the actual construction of probes.

Opis:
A hybrid method is proposed for specific absorption rate analysis in a human body located in the near field of typical GSM base-station panel antenna. The method combines FDTD technique with analytical description of the near field of isolated antenna. The approximate results are found to be in excellent agreement with the results obtained by using the traditional FDTD. The most important advantage of proposed approach is minimization of computer memory requirements and computation time.

Opis:
Today, a significant number of quite advanced technology applications support safety at sea. To the dismay of the maritime industry, the manifestation of passengers during an evacuation scenario/case has not followed a similar path of improvement, when compared to the counterpart Life Saving Appliances (LSA) Code. Embarkation and muster proceedings are still following the similar approaches that were established during the early 1900s. There have been relatively few advances in these procedures; most often, they include manually checking-in the passengers on electronic systems, along with “on the spot” completion of check-off lists and passenger counts, allowing for an influx of potential error by the concerned personnel. Furthermore, the rely and transmission of the manifest to a Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) is often associated with a considerable amount of time, or even involving secondary passenger counts, after the disembarkation event has been concluded. It is understandable that a vessel with limited people on-board (tankers, bulk carriers, container vessels, etc.) can effectively be abandoned in a matter of minutes, but what happens with vessels carrying a large number of passengers and more specifically those heavily engaged with cruising activities? This paper examines the creation of an electronic manifestation system that will be able to automatically record the passengers during lifeboat embarkation. This proposed system will employ the use of Near-Field Communication (NFC) and/or (Radio-frequency identification) RFID bracelets, that are already utilized within the cruise industry. It will record relevant passenger and crew data, upon their boarding on the designated lifeboat, through readers installed on the parallel sides of the entryway. The data will be displayed in electronic tablet devices to the lifeboat leaders, as well as to the Master of the vessel in real-time. This will allow for an accurate representation of the evacuation process in any given moment. Furthermore, a complete “snapshot” of that information can also be directly transmitted to the MRCC via an automated message and without any further human intervention, or even stored locally aboard the lifeboats used for the evacuation and the ship’s Vessel Data Recorder (VDR).

This paper presents research on radionuclide transport from generic geological repository for the RBMK-1500 SNF of 2.8 235U initial enrichment (with Er absorber) and average burn-up of ~ 29 MWd/kgU. Radionuclide transport analysis was focused on the engineered barrier system (EBS) and performed taking into account possible differences in the data on the initial size of a canister defect, defect enlargement time and radionuclide release start time. For the numerical simulations, computer code AMBER (UK) was used. The analysis of radionuclide transport regularities demonstrates that the release from the EBS is the most intensive after the defect enlargement. Most relevant radionuclides were identified based on the mass transfer analysis complemented by the analysis of radiotoxicity flux. The results showed that, depending on the differences of the initial defect size, defect enlargement time and release start time, the peak flux from the EBS may vary by a factor of 2 (for 129I) and 1.5 (for 226Ra) for RBMK-1500 SNF.

Opis:
The article discusses the possibility of the application of the NFC technology as a system of selling tickets in passenger rail transport. The NFC (Near Field Communication) technology is a wireless and contactless technology of transmission of radio data over short distances (max. 5 cm). This technology is very similar to the RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology. It is assumed that this technology will spread rapidly and that already in 2015 around 85% of the payments in the EU will be made via mobile phones. This paper presents a research of passenger interest in this method of payment for tickets in the passenger rail transport in Slovakia. Further, an analysis of the applications of the NFC technology as a system of selling tickets in passenger rail transport, including the protection of data in mobile phones, the processes in case of losing a mobile phone and ensuring the communication between both parties was presented in the article. The last part of this analysis shows the possibility of purchasing tickets regardless of the carrier and the transport type.

Opis:
Traditional radio communication has gained significantly from using multiple input and multiple output (MIMO) architecture in the system. Many wireless applications, such as wireless LAN and cellular network, have adopted this technology to improve their system performance. However, the effect of MIMO systems has not been investigated in the case of inductive near field short range communications. The purpose of this paper is to explore a new method for increasing the magnetic communication range using MIMO. Three system models includingMISO, SIMO and MIMO are proposed to characterize the number of transmitters and receivers to the link. These models have helped to extend not only the range but also the communication channel in NFMIC.

Opis:
The aim of this research is to use a simple acoustic method of a very near field recording, which enables measurement and display of oscillation modes, to estimate the velocity of flexural waves, based on the wavelengths of standing waves measured on the sample. The paper analyses cases of 1D geometry, flexural waves that occur on a beam excited by an impulse. Measurements were conducted on two different samples: steel and a wooden beam of the same length. Due to the appearance of evanescent waves at the boundary regions, the distance between the nodes of standing waves that occur deviates from half the wavelength, which can be compensated using a correction factor. Cases of fixed and free boundary conditions were analysed. By quantifying how much the boundary conditions change the mode shape function, it can be predicted how the mode of oscillation changes if the boundary conditions change, which can also find application in musical acoustics and sound radiation analysis.

Opis:
The near-surface imaging and characterization of an onshore prospect field in the Niger Delta was successfully carried out in a previous study (Adizua et al. 2019) using an integrated approach of combining inversion of refracted arrivals and uphole measurements. The output of that study which revealed the layer characteristics of the near-surface (0–500 m) over the prospect field is now being used as a starting model to derive a complete refraction statics solution to be adapted for processing the 3D seismic dataset from the prospect field. The complete statics solution derived included the field or datum statics, refraction statics, and the 1st and 2nd residual statics which addressed the unresolved and remnant spatial long and short wavelength statics effect on the traces across the investigated field. The comprehensive solution was then incorporated into a PROMAXTM routine and applied to the seismic datasets using appropriate flow commands to perform the statics correction procedure. The out-come of the derived and implemented statics correction was demonstrated on shot gathers from the field in FFID configuration. Results from the several shot gathers analyzed after the application of the statics correction across the field showed that traces were adjusted back to their appropriate positions. The reflectors became better aligned and assumed a near-hyperbolic pattern which is a positive indication that the derived and applied refraction statics solution was the most appropriate for the dataset.

Opis:
In the acoustic fatigue experiment for hypersonic vehicle in simulated harsh service environment on ground, acoustic loads on the surface of test pieces of the vehicle need to be measured. However, for the normal microphones without high temperature resistance ability, the near field sound measurement cannot be achieved. In this work, on the basis of previous researches, an acoustic tubes array is designed to achieve the near field measurement of acoustic loads on the surface of the test piece in the supersonic airflow with high temperature achieved by coherent jet oxygen lance. Firstly, the process of designing this acoustic tubes array is introduced. Secondly, the equality of phase differences at the front and at the end of the tubes is stated and proved using a phase differences test with an acoustic tubes array whose design is presented in this text; therefore, the phase differences of signals acquired by microphones can be directly applied to beamforming algorithm to determine the acoustic load source. Finally, using above mentioned acoustic tubes array, measurement of acoustic load, with and without a test piece in the supersonic airflow made by the coherent jet oxygen lance, is conducted respectively, and the measurements results are analyzed.

Eksploatacja urządzeń techniki wojskowej wiąże się w znacznym zakresie z koniecznością przebywania w polu elektromagnetycznym o wartościach stref ochronnych bezpieczeństwa i higieny pracy, ustanowionych w przepisach krajowych.
Operating military technology is highly related to necessary exposure to electromagnetic fields, whose values are specified in national regulations on protection zones of occupational safety and health. Values of strength of electromagnetic fields in locations of people operating such devices often exceed values near devices in other areas of the economy. Polish standards only partially take into account the specificity of military equipment. The direct use of such devices in many cases leads to an underestimation of exposure to electromagnetic fields in the near field of radar antennas. This paper presents an analysis of the strength of electromagnetic fields near devices generating strong pulse modulated fields. Based on the measurement results, exposure of personnel operating devices at fixed and variable workstations was analysed. The evaluation indicates workstations and areas around military equipment that should be especially protected due to anincreased exposure of personnel.

Amplitude and frequency content are two important features of earthquakes that are different for near and far-fault earthquakes and in most of the standards, the effects of near-field earthquakes in loading are not considered. Therefore, study and comparison of these effects on structures is necessary. In this paper, structural operation against near and far fault earthquakes for two near sites and two far sites is investigated. For this purpose and in order to achieve an operation point of a structural model with six staircases with a mean lateral bending frame resistant system seismic hazard information is analyzed with regards to special plan spectrums of 2 different sites using near and far faults. An evaluation of the effects due to near and far fault earthquakes based on the Iran’s standard 2800 ranges on operation point and the comparison of operation effects of near and far fault spectrums with Iran’s standard are results of this research work. After the presentation of results obtained from time history analyses, some suggestions are proposed for design correction based on the regulations in near -field earthquakes. This paper evaluates near ship-ship collision situations in the Tagus River Estuary using a simulation model of ship navigation in restricted waters. The simulation model consists of a ship collision avoidance model based on the Artificial Potential Field (APF) method, which has been improved to account for the lateral distribution of traffic along the route, the ship type and length and speed development of the ships along the trajectory. AIS data of ships entering and leaving the port of Lisbon are analysed to obtain the main characteristics of traffic parameters used as input for the traffic simulation model, such as: the routes of the vessels, speed distribution along the routes, traffic density and characteristics of the ships in each route, among others. First, the improved model of ship navigation and the Monte Carlo simulation technique are used to simulate the marine traffic in the Tagus River Estuary. Then, the concept of “ship domain” is used as collision criterion to determine the number of near collisions and the locations where they are most likely to occur. Finally, the simulation results are compared to the ones obtained from raw AIS data to assess the capability of the simulation model for marine traffic risk analysis.
