The paper presents a study on the environmental impact on the risk of harbour operations. The hydro-meteorological elements have been recognised as the most important safety factors with regard to the ship entrance into the harbour and berthing inside the docks. They are identified as real time, short and long term factors and they all should be considered in the safety assessment of harbour operations. The risk of each operation should be determined on the basis of weather forecast and the modelled prediction of the total water level, surface currents and waves. Several topics have been discussed in the paper with regard to the safe ship approach and navigation inside the harbour. The application of different tools for the prediction of ship performance is presented. The stochastic method for the determination of probability that the ship will navigate within the boundaries of the required navigational width and low speed manoeuvring standards proposed by Panel H-10 SNAME have been considered. The real scale experiments carried out in Port of Gdynia and the several trials performed using the Full Mission Simulator convinced that the open water model tests are necessary for the proper prediction of ship performance during berthing. The program of the proposed open water investigations is presented in the paper. The experimental stand constructed for the tests of ship-berth interactions, in the lake Silm at the Ilawa Ship Handling Training and Research Centre facilities is described.

As shown in this paper, reliability of equipment and reliability of operator due to psychophysiological factors cannot be considered separately. This paper deals especially with air navigation system operator reliability. So the main goal was to create the operator's reliability model. As a result the information functional reliability model for the air navigation system operator has been created. This model takes into account dynamic of error changing, depending on the loading of the operator. It allows to solve the problem of determining the reliability of operator in normal and special flight conditions.
W artykule zwrócono uwagę na niezawodność sprzętu i niezawodność operatora, które ze względu na czynniki psychofizjologiczne nie mogą być rozpatrywane oddzielnie. Problem ten jest szczególnie istotny w aspekcie niezawodności operatora systemu nawigacji lotniczej, dlatego głównym celem pracy było stworzenie modelu niezawodności operatora. W efekcie, stworzono funkcjonalny model niezawodność operatora systemu nawigacji lotniczej, który uwzględnia dynamikę zmian błędu w zależności od obciążenia operatora. Model pozwala rozwiązać problem określania niezawodności operatora w normalnych i specjalnych warunkach lotu.

The ship manoeuvring dynamics consists of surge, sway, and yaw differential equations (coupled mutually with each other). a basic principle of the proposed manoeuvring model identification algorithm is that both sway and yaw equations may directly assimilate, instead of the motions derived from other one or two equations, the corresponding sea trial data. Under such conditions, the evaluated hull and rudder sub-models are more adequate and less ambiguous. An approach has been made also to compose the hull hydrodynamics from turning tests, while z-tests refine the rudder related model parameters. The obtained final manoeuvring prediction is excellent.

A compact and practical mathematical model of the anchor-related manoeuvring forces is developed. The most useful and original are non-dimensional lookup tables of the anchor cable horizontal tension, which are valid for any geometrical relationship between the ship hawse-pipe and the anchor itself. The anchor and/or cable failure aspects due to an excessive ship anchoring velocity are also raised.

A smoothing algorithm is applied to differentiation-gathered velocities from full-scale turning test results. It produces with enough accuracy a clear picture of resultant forces acting during the turning maneuver and thus enables a direct and proper parameters identification in ship motion equations. The Nile River is the main route for inland navigation in Egypt. The vessels navigating through inland waterways generate complex physical forces that need to be studied extensively. Quantifying the effects of vessels sailing along a waterway is a complex problem because the river flow is unsteady and the river bathymetry is irregular. This paper aims to investigate the hydrodynamic effects resulting from the movement of vessels such as return currents around the vessel, the draw down of the water surface, under keel clearance, and the shear stress induced by vessels operating in the Nile River. Modeling such effects has been performed by applied the two-dimensional ADH (adaptive hydraulics) model to a river reach for different navigation channel operation scenarios. The obtained results show that the draw down heights, the water fluctuation, and the shear stress magnitude are larger when the river cross sectionals are narrow and the shallow water depths. These river sections are considered more disposed to bed erosion and it is morphologically unsafe. The section having the narrowest width and the lowest depth was associated with the largest drawdown percentages of 98.3% and 87.3% in one-way and two-way scenarios. While the section having the widest width and the largest depth was associated with the least drawdown percentages of 48.5% and 51.9% in one-way and two-way scenarios. The section having the narrowest width and the lowest depth was associated with the largest fluctuations of 22.0 cm and 41.9 cm in one-way and two-way scenarios. While the section having the widest width and the largest depth was associated with the least fluctuations of 0.6 cm and 1.8 cm in one-way and two-way scenarios. The section having the narrowest width and the lowest depth was the worst section for under keel clearance of 5.0 cm and 33.3 cm in one-way and two-way scenarios. While the section having the widest width and the largest depth was the best section, where its clearance values were 183.2 cm and 155.0 cm in one-way and two-way scenarios. It is concluded that a numerical model is a valuable tool for predicting and quantifying the hydrodynamic effects of vessels moving through a two-dimensional flow field and can be used to evaluate different scenarios that are difficult to measure in the field or a physical model. Also, it provides visualization products that help us understand the complicated forces produced by vessels moving in a navigation channel.

e-Navigation, a theme introduced but IMO to improve safety of navigation at sea, is starting to gain traction in various organizations. As the concept develops, the importance of data, both static as well as dynamic, is more and more realized. IALA and IHO, in their efforts to help making e-Navigation a reality, have agreed to propose the IHO GI Register (often known as S-100 Register) as the conceptual basis for the Common Maritime Data Structure (CMDS). Utilizing this common understanding of key players in e-Navigation arena, the IMO e-Navigation Correspondence Group has firmed up the overarching architecture, enabling a series to test beds proving the concept of integration of various data streams to enable improved communication between the stakeholders on shore or at sea. The integration of pre-composed, expert generated navigational data with real time and semi real-time data like Virtual AtoNs, Tide Gages Data or MSI transmission from VTS into a single e-Navigation display, if correctly developed, implemented and executed, will be the enabler of increased situational awareness.

The Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) at its 81st session decided to include, in the work programmes of the NAV and COMSAR Sub-Committees, a high priority item on "Development of an e–navigation strategy”. E-navigation is meant to integrate existing and new electronic navigational tools (ship and shore based) into one comprehensive system that will contribute to enhanced navigational safety and security while reducing the workload of the mariner (navigator). This paper describes present IT created to support navigational and administrative activities related to vessel movement and cargo transhipment. Direction of development of existing systems is drafted with reference to E-Navigation concept. Information sets available for the vessel in Polish Sea Areas are grouped.

Objective reasons, such as climatic changes, larger vessels, sometimes the impracticality of the current solutions, determine the interest of decision-makers in rebuilding the existing ports and breakwaters. Tested simulation models allow for a thorough analysis of the possible modernization variants taking into account the variability of basic parameters. The article presents research results related to the optimization of the Mrzezyno seaport with respect to navigation safety and the possibility of larger vessels calling at the port after its modernization. In the paper, real time simulation methods based on manoeuvre simulators were applied. Two different variants that can be implemented from the technical point of view were studied. Following a multidimensional analysis that took into consideration increased comfort of ship manoeuvres in the port and navigation safety, one variant was indicated as the optimum. The aim of the research results is to help design new solutions in the case of the modernization of the Mrzezyno seaport.
Można wskazać wiele obiektywnych przyczyn powodujących zainteresowanie decydentów przebudową istniejących falochronów, a niekiedy znacznych fragmentów portów. Należą do nich między innymi zmiany klimatyczne, zwiększanie się wymiarów statków, a niekiedy niepraktyczność aktualnych rozwiązań. W takich przypadkach bardzo przydatne są metody symulacyjne, które pozwalają na gruntowną analizę możliwych wariantów modernizacji, biorąc pod uwagę zmienność podstawowych parametrów. W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań nad optymalizacją portu morskiego Mrzeżyno w kontekście bezpieczeństwa nawigacji i możliwości obsługi większych statków po wprowadzeniu modernizacji. Zastosowano metody symulacji manewrów w czasie rzeczywistym, rozważając dwa różne warianty, które z technicznego punktu widzenia mogłyby zostać wdrożone. Uwzględniając wielostronną analizę możliwości ułatwienia manewrów w porcie oraz bezpieczeństwo nawigacyjne, wskazano wariant optymalny.

This paper conducts calibration tests on the shallow-water maneuverability of 1:100 ship models for the typical navigation fleets in Three Gorges Reservoir. Major influential factors for the maneuverability similitude between models and prototypes and for scale effect were identified. A correction method for model scale was also established through model tests. Test results indicate that, by correcting the model scales of various fleets based on scale effect, the maneuverability indexes K’ (dimensionless of K) and T’ (dimensionless of T) of ship models are suitable for shallowwater tests, and properly reflect the maneuvering characteristics of prototypes. The findings provide an experimental basis for the navigation safety in Three Gorges Reservoir.

The problems of determining instrumental errors of navigation accelerometer metrological model's coefficients determination by its calibration on an uniaxial swivel stand and ensuring the specified accuracy of the calibration were considered. Analytical expressions for calculating appropriate identification errors and conditions for the calibration equipment the implementation of which provides the desired accuracy of the accelerometer calibration were gained. Adequacy of those expressions and conditions by calibrating a navigation accelerometer of a real inertial navigation system was experimentally confirmed. Praca skupia się na wyznaczeniu błędów instrumentalnych wyznaczania współczynników nieliniowego modelu pomiarowego akcelerometru nawigacyjnego podczas kalibracji na jednoosiowym stoisku obrotowym, ponadto zapewnieniu zadanej dokładności powyższej kalibracji. Otrzymano wzory analityczne do wyznaczenia odpowiednich odchyłek identyfikacji oraz wymagania dla stoiska pomiarowego, spełnienie których pozwoli na utrzymanie zadanej dokładności kalibracji akcelerometru. W drodze doświadczeń potwierdzono prawidłowość wyżej opisanych wzorów i wymagań, poprzez wykonanie kalibracji nawigacyjnego akcelerometru rzeczywistego inercyjnego systemu nawigacyjnego.

Metrology model of triaxial navigation accelerometer unit as a vector transmitter, physical and mathematical foundations of a new method for its calibration on uniaxial rotary stand are considered. The aim is to determine the coefficients of metrology model for triaxial accelerometer unit by the method mentioned above. To ensure the identifiability of all coefficients of the metrological model, two installations of accelerometer unit on a platform of uniaxial rotary stand were introduced. Identification models for metrology model of triaxial accelerometer unit were produced. Experimental validation of the obtained identification coefficients models was carried out. The ability to calibrate a triaxial accelerometer navigation unit with the given accuracy was confirmed.

In this paper we describe the creation of a model of the motion of a flying object in a geocentric coordinate system (ECEF - Earth-Centered, Earth-Fixed). Such a model can be used to investigate the accuracy and resistance of radio navigation systems to interference. The essence of the design of the model lies in the mathematical description of the motion of a flying object in a geocentric coordinate system. The flight trajectory of a flying object consists of one straight section and two turns. When creating a model, we assume a flight at a constant altitude. In this paper, we present one of the possible procedures for modelling the motion of a flying object in a geocentric coordinate system. We chose the initial coordinates of the flying object according to flightradar 24. We used the Matlab software for computer simulation.
