Opis:
On the one hand in recent years nature tourism (turystyka przyrodnicza) has constituted a significant part of the tourism industry, on the other it has caused many problems for researchers attempting to define the phenomenon. Should the tourism destination or its primary motivation determine its categorisation? Is there indeed a need when considering practice as well as theory? The authors of the article have attempted a discourse with both foreign and domestic literature and subsequently sought to find the perceived meaning of turystyka przyrodnicza (nature tourism) amongst students of Poznań University particularly those associated with the natural environment on their degree courses. The present article should be considered as a contribution to further work in this field theoretically as well as practically.

Opis:
This paper is part of a study on the impact of tourism experiences on the psychological wellbeing of individuals. Integrating the approach of positive psychology and research on tourists’ behaviour within the field of marketing, Caroll Ryff's concept of psychological wellbeing and the concept of wellbeing tourism were used for this purpose. The aim of the research was to investigate differences in the level of perceived psychological wellbeing by tourists preferring different types of wellbeing tourism, and the article presents theoretical and practical premises for defining wellbeing tourism. Wellbeing tourism can be defined as a specific type of tourism based on six pillars that ensure a sustainable approach to travel and leisure - simultaneous care for the body, soul, and mind of the tourist, as well as the environment, society, and economy of the destination area. Through analysis of variance, it was found that these differences are significant for those preferring natural and cultural wellbeing tourism, and they are also influenced by the perception of one's financial situation. Applying the results of the study will enable tourism enterprises to design an offer for tourists that will increase their sense of psychological wellbeing.

Opis:
Cognitive nature tourism in Ukraine has a long tradition of development. Today, ecotourism, active forms of tourism, ethnographic trips and trips to historical and cultural destinations are mostly developed. The most popular offers come from national parks and other natural areas with preserved natural, historical and cultural environments. Among the regions with active forms of tourism, the Carpathian mountain region and the Crimea with a well-developed network of hiking and biking trails should be noted. Rafting on the Black Cheremosh, Prut, Southern Bug, Dniester, Desna, Sluch, Teteriv and other rivers is quite popular as well as trips to caves (in Podillia, the Carpathians and the Crimea), which are often combined with visits to other natural attractions. Travel agencies, specialized clubs, national parks and nature reserves, which cooperate to promote their offers on domestic and international tourist market, organize informative trips.

Opis:
The rapid post-millennial internationalisation of Japan’s tourism sector and the influx of international visitors have quickly increased visitor motivations’ heterogeneity, thereby posing challenges for management. Given the lack of prior research, we aimed to identify nature-based tourism (NBT) push-factor motivation domains of visitors in a Japanese national park and segment domestic and international visitors based on their motivations, demographics and trip profiles. Primary data collection of 137 responses took place in November 2019 through an on-site self-administered questionnaire. From 11 push-factor statements, the principal component analysis yielded a four-factor solution: ‘enjoying nature with family or friends’, ‘improving physical health’, ‘discovering and learning’ and ‘escaping’. In addition, t-tests revealed significant differences between domestic and international visitors in three out of the four motivation dimensions. Underlying visitor profiles could explain some such differences. Despite the differences, both international and domestic visitors share similar motivations regarding ‘improving physical health’. These findings hint at the complexity of monitoring heterogeneous visitor segments within Japanese NBT. Despite increasing international visitors, there has been a lack of the necessary infrastructure and facilities to accommodate them. Thus, this study’s implications might help diversify NBT management strategies to deal with current shortcomings in Japan’s tourism sector.

Opis:
Background. Valuable natural areas are significant tourist destinations. However, a large number of tourists is a threat to sensitive mountain ecosystems. Thus the Spain pay particular attention to sustainable development, especially where nature can be mostly endangered. The article is an attempt to assess the state of selected elements of tourism in mountain national parks of Spain and the perspectives of their development. Material and methods. The main method is an analysis of statistical data referring to the accommodation infrastructure of rural tourism, especially of protected mountain areas, as well as data concerning tourist traffic. Results. The most important forms of tourism practiced in natural areas are presented; the importance of rural and nature tourism is emphasized in the context of sustainable development. The main issue that influences the development is accommodation infrastructure. Taking into account the perspectives of tourism development in the mountainous national parks, the need to create an offer more open to foreign tourists was underscored. Among the threats, the problem of unifying accommodation units operating in the rural environment was pointed. The solution demands changing legal situation and the competences of the Spanish autonomic regions, which seems to be a difficult task. Conclusions. Tourism in the mountain national parks of Spain functions properly based on the tourist attractions, and the development perspectives are good provided that the question of systematizing accommodation unit types is solved, and efforts to attract foreign tourists are undertaken.

Background. Nature-based tourism is becoming more and more popular. It is focused principally on natural resources, which can be found in different protected areas. One of them are the Natura 2000 sites, which constitute a key part of nature conservation in all European Union member states. The main aim of the paper was to evaluate the potential of natural habitats for nature-based tourism at Lower Silesian Natura 2000 sites. Material and methods. The main research materials are Standard Data Forms, the completion of which is obligatory for all European Natura 2000 sites. The research was conducted for 83 Lower Silesian sites. The authors took into account the types of habitats, their forms (priority or non-priority), coverage and degree of conservation. Results and conclusions. There are 2333 types of natural habitats at the analysed region. They cover 87 722.7 ha, most of which (62%) comprise forest habitats. They are mainly well (47%) and excellently (41%) conserved. There are 28 sites with the highest potential, which are situated in the Sudetes and their Foreland.

Opis:
Present paper aims at determining the position of tourism in a life style of youth, living in Poland at the beginning of the third millennium. In order to diagnose the issue, seven reports on tourism activity among polish youth have been analysed, the data concerning years 2002–2009. Based on these analysis a stand of the contemporary youth’s tourism activity has been determined, as well as a level of youth’s participation in tourism and their most preferred forms of tourism. Furthermore, the analysis let to determining the tendencies and changes that have had occurred over the given years. The examined reports depict that a vast majority of respondents has had ever taken part in a tourism activity, however the numbers have been declining over the years. The most popular forms of tourism among youth are: recreational tourism, entertainment tourism and cultural tourism. Less popular forms include qualifi ed tourism, ski tourism, special interest tourism, nature tourism, religious tourism, educational and linguistic tourism, and adventure tourism. The youth is nowadays one of the most important segments of the tourism market. Therefore, the analysis presented here may prove very serviceable for those who aim at satisfying the needs and expectations of the contemporary youth when designing a tourist offer.

Opis:
Tropical and subtropical islands have become an important tourist destination. The islands are concentrated in eight areas of the world. Evaluating the natural tourist potential of these areas, it seems that the most attractive are the islands of Mid and West Indian Ocean and the Polynesia. Yet, these locations are less popular then the theoretically less naturally attractive Caribbean, Mediterranean and East Atlantic islands. This leads to the conclusion that nature is not the most important decisive factor in choosing tourist destinations, and “tourist paradises” are formed on islands regardless of their natural attributes. Tourists are mainly attracted by the “myth” of a tropical island, and the most important criterion is the distance from home and travel time.

Opis:
An important reason for doing tourism is the need to contact with nature. Wild nature is threatened by economic and industrial development. The development of tourism enables people to have more contact with nature, but at the same time is the reason for the growing threat to it. There is a strong interaction between nature and tourism. To emphasize this interaction, at the beginning of the article nature will be described as a destination for tourist activities. Then there will be described how the tourism can impact on nature. Finally, I would like to answer the question, how people perceive the nature. The article will emphasise problems and dilemmas arising from the development of tourism and its impact on nature.
