Opis:
The process of sorption of chromium(III) ions with a stationary sorbent layer of bentonite clays was investigated. The main advantages of using bentonites in water purification technologies are described: powerful geological reserves, cheap process of rock extraction, easy preparation for transportation and use, possibility of using waste sorbents in other technologies that is why there is no need in costly regeneration. The influence of various factors (process duration, an adsorbent layer) on the degree of wastewater purification from chromium ions, the effect of pumping speed on the dynamic capacity of the sorbent was studied and the effective volume was determined. The adsorption efficacy increases with the increase of the adsorbent layer, what can be explained by the development of the active sorption surface. As the initial concentration of chromium ions increases, the time of appearance of the first traces of the contaminant at the exit of the column increases, as well as the total time to channeling. The results of the studies indicate a higher adsorption capacity of modified bentonite with respect to Cr3+ ions compared to its natural formula. The cleaning efficacy of the solution with a concentration of chromium ions of 0.5 g∙dm–3 is increased by 5% when using 15 g of modified bentonite and 6,5% in the case one uses 20 g compared to the natural form.

This work is dedicated to the development of scientific technologies of sewage water clarification of different industrial enterprises from chrome and nickel ions through adsorption by bentonite from Cherkasy field under dynamic conditions. The perspective and efficiency of application of bentonite clays for treatment of sewage water are confirmed by their advantages over other sorbents, that is: they win in accessibility, cost, and possibility of regeneration and multiple usages. The studies proved the expediency of bentonite clays usage for treatment of sewage water from chrome (III), zinc (ІІ) and nickel (II) ions. The static activities were determined and isotherms of adsorption of nickel, zinc and chrome ions were built. Deposition by gravity was chosen as the most optimal method reset of spend sorbent. Dosage of flocculants allows accelerating the process and increasing the degree of deposition. The basic parameters of the precipitation process of the used sorbent were established. The technological schemes of drain water purification from heavy metal ions contamination were developed; in addition to the following sedimentation and regeneration of sorbents.

Opis:
In this work, the exchange capacity and the selectivity of different ion-exchange products regarding the ammonium ions in treatment processes were measured; the regenerative preparation compounds influence on efficiency of conduction of ion-exchange products regeneration was determined. The adsorption processes were adapted to the known technological schemes of sewage and polluted surface water treatment that was polluted with ammonium ions. There were measured the technological aspects of water treatment by using adsorption on natural dispersed sorbents. The technological schemes of drain water treatment from ammonium ions were developed. The method of simultaneous removal of highly concentrated nitrogen and phosphorus was analyzed by physical and chemical precipitation, forming struvite, a by-product of magnesium ammonium orthophosphate hexahydrate. The analyses were conducted at various molar ratios of magnesium and phosphate ions and at various pH values. The comparative thermal analysis of chemical precipitation products and pure struvite was performed. The optimal conditions were identified to experience the maximum efficiency of simultaneous removal of ammonium nitrogen and phosphate ions from wastewater, forming MgNH4PO4·6H2O.

Opis:
Natural clay has been considered as a potential absorbent for removing pollutants from water and waste water. Nonetheless, the effective application of clay for water treatment is limited due to small surface area and presence of net negative surface charge, leading to it low adsorption capacity. The absorption capacity was boosted via intercalation of CaO derived from snail shell (SS). The methylene blue sorption potential, PZC, and the surface area of unmodified clay sample were substantially enhanced by the intercalation process. The process of sorption of MB from solution was analyzed using five different isotherm models (Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin, Harkins-Jura, and Halsey isotherm equations). The value of the Langmuir monolayer sorption capacity qm (mg/g) increased from 50.12 to 88.71, PZC values increased from 4.50 to 7.40, and the surface area (m2/g) value increased from 27 m2/g to 123 m2/g after the intercalation process. The experimental data were fitted into two kinetic models: Lagergren pseudo-first order and the chemisorptions pseudo-second order. It was observed that chemisorptions pseudo-second order kinetic model described the sorption process with high coefficients of determination (r2) better than pseudo first other kinetic models. The modification caused no change in the clay surficial microstructure but increased the lattice spacing of the clay framework.

Phenol and chlorophenols are long-lived pollutants frequently found in industrial effluents. Phenols are widely used for the commercial production of a wide variety of resins including phenolic resins, epoxy resins and adhesives, and polyamide for various applications. Adsorption process has been proven one of the best water treatment technologies around the world and the removal of diverse types of pollutants from water. However, widespread use of commercial adsorbent is sometimes restricted due to its higher costs. Attempts have been made to develop inexpensive adsorbents utilizing for the reduction of phenol from water. Four types of adsorbent clay, algae, moringa oleifera and rice husk has been used. Among all rice husk shown 97 % of phenol adsorption at 1mm particle size, pH 4, 3 g/l dosing and 150min contact time.

Opis:
Concerned about the environmental and economic impact, composite materials are increasingly used in the construction sector. Indeed, the use of plant fibers as reinforcement in construction materials have been the subject of several researches in recent years; the main motivation is the weight gain combined with high mechanical characteristics. The objective of this research concerns the study of the physicomechanical properties of composite materials with cement and clay matrices reinforced with Alfa and Diss fibers with dimensions ranging from 2 to 8 cm. This involves evaluating the performance of these materials according to the formulation, for a volume ratio (Alfa or Diss / Matrix fibers equal to 4), using dry fibers and pre-wetted fibers. The study of the mechanical properties showed a drop of the performance for both compression and bending strength compared to the reference material without adding fibers (cement or clay paste). It should be noted that the best mechanical performance is obtained for the case of composites materials with cementitious matrix with pre-wetted fibers. On the other hand, in the case of composites with clayey matrices, pre-wetting does not improve the mechanical characteristics. It is also noted that the best dimensions of fibers which improve the mechanical characteristics in bending are generally 6 cm for composites with a clay matrix and between 2 and 4 cm for cementitious composites. In all cases, the fibers in composite materials with cement or clay matrix create a bridging effect, making it possible to limit the progression of cracks during loading. This phenomenon gives to the various composite materials a ductile behavior.

Opis:
The selection of building materials to a huge extent shapes building impact on the environment. In the era of widespread awareness of health problems arising from toxicity of chemical substances, healthy and safe materials of organic origin are even more important. The work discusses examples of the use of straw-bales in thermal retrofitting of buildings located in Austria, Czech Republic and Hungary. The experience of the practical applications of this material in renovations of buildings located in similar climatic conditions indicate that these solutions can be used successfully in Poland. The prevalence of this technology can make a significant contribution to reduction of gaseous emissions, waste, as well as the emission of noise, vibration radiation.

Opis:
Based on the assumptions of the circular economy model and sustainable development, we are currently looking for natural and ecological materials in terms of wastewater treatment of pollutants. This article presents the research of three mineral materials - lava rock (LR), lightweight sintered aggregate (LSA) and lightweight clay aggregates (LCA) used as filling of filtration columns for the treatment of real wastewater. The filtration process was carried out under various hydraulic loads in two columns, one of which was additionally supported by the aeration process. The post-treated sewage was characterized by the following parameters: COD (chemical oxygen demand), TOC (total organic carbon), phosphate phosphorus (P-PO4 ), total nitrogen (TN) and total phosphorus (TP). Among the hydraulic loads applied, the most optimal loads were OhI = 0.25 m3/(m2·h). Certyd turned out to be the most effective with supporting filtration with the aeration process in removing organic compounds (reduction of 65.1% COD and 38.2% TOC at OhI ). Lava rock seems to be a promising material reactive in terms of removal of biogenic compounds such as nitrogen (efficiency 23.8% at OhI ) and phosphorus (64.2% reduction of TP at OhI ) and organic compounds (21.4% reduction of TOC at OhI in conditions without aeration). LCA shows the best efficiency in sorption of phosphorus compounds (41.6% reduction of TP at OhI ) and organic compounds (21.4% TOC reduction at OhI under non-aerated conditions).
