The article discusses the usefulness and adequacy of hermeneutic theory of language by Hans¬ Georg Gadamer in glottodidactic process. It presents the attempt to define the phe-nomenon of language (in this case regarded as a foreign language) that is different than the linguistic one. It is a contribution to further search for different ways of defining a native language while teaching it at Polish faculties abroad. The article contains the overview of research on the beliefs of pre-school and primary school teachers (n = 100) about developing the plurilingual competence in children. Research shows that the teachers highly appreciate the scientific, practical and motivational values of developing the plurilingual competence, but they lack knowledge about the teaching methods and tools and organizational forms that can be used for the development of plurilingual competence in the early stages of education. When discussing the results I analyze i.a. (a) the reasons for not taking actions aimed at the development of individual plurilingualism indicated by the respondents and (b) the actions taken declaratory by the respondents in the context of the objectives of plurilingual education.

The paper concerns foreign language typhlomethodology and presents an overview of available research findings in the field, arranged in chronological order. The studies discussed in the paper have insight into either first language acquisition or foreign language learning by visually impaired learners. The former shed light on the potential problems the visually impaired might have while learning foreign languages. The problems might emerge both in the phonological or semantic domain. The latter, in turn, discuss such issues as the use of foreign language vocabulary learning strategies and the role of affective factors which facilitate the language learning process. Nowadays the European Union promotes ‘Languages to All’ principle, i.e. teaching languages to all groups of learners, regardless of their disabilities and impairments, preferably in inclusive education setting. Therefore, foreign language teachers should be acquainted with the research findings and their implications presented herein.

Edmund Bojanowski, a great patriot, writer and educationist, who loved his nation sought to preserve its culture, aiming at enriching children’s minds and hearts with these values in order to protect them through education. An important element of national heritage, which distinguishes us from other cultures and connects us is language and tradition. Bojanowski indications regarding his concern for the preservation of native language as the basic expression of national and cultural identity, a source of knowledge about man, learning about the history of Homeland as well as reference to tradition, may be a source of inspiration for contemporary reflections and pedagogical practice.

Philosophy as a universal system of knowledge and the main corpus of the philosophical terminology consists of international terms. There are cases, however, when philosophers choose to, create a native word instead of employing a wellknown international term. The term Meddelelse, for instance, was introduced by the Danish philosopher Soren Kierkegaard. According to him, different aspects of communication are included in this concept to be denominated by the Danish word Meddelelse. Another example in this respect is the national term introduced by the Latvian philosopher Rihards Kūlis for the international term nacionālā identitāte. Contemporary philosophers tend to claim that philosophy does not belong only to the elitist part of the society. If such is the case, the philosophers try to facilitate the comprehension process for the native readers in order to ensure a deeper understanding of definite notions. Hence they endevour to accommodate their writing in the way their readers could fully grasp the meaning of the intended message.

The discussion begins by indicating the strengths and weaknesses of teaching Polish as a non-native language today while focussing on how approaches to individual issues have changed. The main body of the article, devoted to the achievements of, and development prospects for, teaching Polish as a non-native language, is divided into three parts. The first includes remarks on the necessity to engage in further research into such subdisciplines of teaching Polish as a non-native language as the acquisition of Polish as a foreign and a second language, the preparation and evaluation of materials for teaching Polish as a non-native language, computer-aided teaching PFL, the reality of Polish studies in different countries and world regions, and the history of teaching Polish as a foreign language. The second part applies to the development of teaching Polish as a heritage and second language within the context of its development as a foreign language. The third part refers to people working for the growth of teaching Polish as a non-native language, and offers a discussion of the outcomes of a study by Grażyna Zarzycka of the discourse community of researchers and instructors of Polish as a non-native language and the discourse of teaching Polish as a non-native language itself.
Autor rozpoczyna swe rozważania od określenia mocnych i słabych stron dzisiejszej glottodydaktyki polonistycznej, zwracając przy tym uwagę na to, jak zmieniało się jego podejście do poszczególnych zagadnień. Część zasadnicza artykułu, poświęcona perspektywom rozwoju glottodydaktyki polonistycznej, została podzielona na trzy części. Pierwsza z nich zawiera uwagi o potrzebie dalszych badań naukowych w zakresie takich subdyscyplin glottodydaktyki jak akwizycja polszczyzny jako języka obcego i drugiego, preparacja i ewaluacja materiałów glottodydaktycznych, wspomagane komputerowo nauczanie JPJO, sytuacja polonistyki w poszczególnych krajach i regionach świata, czy historia nauczania polszczyzny jako języka obcego. Część druga odnosi się do rozwoju nauczania polszczyzny jako języka odziedziczonego i drugiego na tle rozwoju jego nauczania jako języka obcego. Część trzecia artykułu odnosi się do ludzi pracujących na rzecz glottodydaktyki polonistycznej i przynosi omówienie rezultatów badań G. Zarzyckiej na temat wspólnoty dyskursywnej glottodydaktyków polonistycznych i samego dyskursu glottodydaktycznego.

By declaring a language as their native language or mother tongue, people carry out an act of identification with this language, and via this language with people and ideas to whom they assign the same language. This comes to the fore especially when external conflicts are transferred to the linguistic constellation. This is the case in Ukraine, where three languages / codes are at the disposal: the state’s official language Ukrainian, but also Russian, and “suržyk”, a widespread form of speech containing both Ukrainian and Russian elements. Based on a survey from 2014 in the central regions of Ukraine, this article examines which of these languages / codes are chosen as a native language and how this choice is connected with more objective aspects of language use. By means of generative additive mixed-effects modeling, it will be shown how this choice varies both socially and geographically.

Opis:
Children entering institutional education can activate the linguistic and non-linguistic norms they bring from home. These norms, however, are very diverse in their nature and children from the same age-group remain at different levels in terms of language-acquisition. In our paper we seek to identify where and what sort of problems may arise in acquiring the mother-tongue, what factors may hinder the acquisition of the first language, what are the symptoms of backwardness in the field of linguistic–communication and which areas measuring tests tend to focus upon. Finally by presenting an indication system we would like to show what opportunities observation may have in purposeful development.

The Russian language is used every day by a lot of Ukrainians who consider their native language to be Ukrainian and who attribute themselves to the largest ethnic community. Based on a mass survey respondents from different regions of Ukraine, as well as focus group discussions with Ukrainian and Russian-speaking residents of Kyiv, Lviv, Odesa and Kharkiv, how linguistic and ethnic self-identifications of Ukrainians correlate with the actual choice of language for everyday and situational communication is analyzed. Ukrainians’ interpretations of the concept of “native language” and their explanations regarding what language they use and why in different situations and with different speakers is described.
Język rosyjski jest używany na co dzień przez wielu Ukraińców, którzy uważają język ukraiński za swój język ojczysty i zgłaszają swój akces do najliczniejszej w kraju społeczności etnicznej. Analizę wyboru języka w komunikacji codziennej i sytuacyjnie nacechowanej wykonano zarówno na podstawie wyników uzyskanych z szeroko przeprowadzonych badań ankietowych w różnych regionach Ukrainy, jak również przy wykorzystaniu materiałów zgromadzonych w trakcie dyskusji prowadzonych z celowo dobranymi grupami ukraińsko- i rosyjskojęzycznych mieszkańców Kijowa, Lwowa, Odessy i Charkowa, w których rozmówcom zadawano pytanie, w jaki sposób językowa i etniczna samoidentyfikacja Ukraińców koreluje z faktycznym wyborem języka. W artykule przedstawiono sposoby interpretacji przez Ukraińców pojęcia „język ojczysty” oraz zasady, jakimi się kierują w doborze języka w zależności od sytuacji komunikacyjnej i typu rozmówcy.

Głównym celem niniejszego artykułu jest analiza różnic pomiędzy szkieletami aplikacjami natywnych i wieloplatformowych. Położono nacisk na przedstawienie technologii, które są obecnie wykorzystywane, ich rozwój i wykorzystanie na rynku. Omówiono wybrane technologie, które umożliwiają programowanie mobilne z podziałem na języki natywne i języki wysokiego poziomu. Przedstawiono różnice pomiędzy procesami wytwarzania aplikacji mobilnych.
The main purpose of the article is an analysis of differences between frameworks of native applications and cross-platform. The emphasis was put on presenting technologies that are currently used, their development and the situation on the market. The work includes a discussion of selected technologies used in mobile programming with division into native and high level languages. The differences between the processes of manufacturing mobile applications were presented.

Language learning as a factor in preserving the identity of Ukrainians in Poland. One of the primary factors in fostering national identity is mastery of one’s native language, preservation of national memory, and nurturing of cultural traditions of one’s people. The Republic of Poland is a state that has one of the most significant Ukrainian minorities and has hospitably sheltered a vast mass of Ukrainian immigrants who left the Motherland due to Russian military aggression. The purpose of the article is to investigate the possibilities for preserving the identity of Ukrainians in 17 Poland through teaching children their native language. We have implemented the following tasks to achieve the goal: 1) We have determined the role of the national language in preserving identity. 2) We have clarified the historical and political prerequisites for a large Ukrainian community in Poland. 3) We have outlined the distinct types of educational opportunities for teaching children their native language in the Republic of Poland. 4) We have revealed the trends in the positioning of the Ukrainian language in Polish society. The article draws attention to different types of migration of Ukrainians. It reveals specific differences in intentions to nurture Ukrainian identity, satisfy one’s own national and cultural needs, and avoid assimilation. We have distinguished and characterized three types of educational institutions in the modern education school of the Republic of Poland where children are taught the Ukrainian language: Saturday schools or educational institutions under public organizations; Polish secondary schools, where Ukrainian is studied as a second foreign language; Educational institutions that conduct Ukrainian language training. We have revealed that the primary trend related to the positioning of the Ukrainian language in Polish society is the strengthening of its status in line with the educational policy of the European Union due to the increased interest of Poles in Ukraine, its language and culture.
Одним із базових чинників утвердження національної ідентичности є володіння рідною мовою, збереження національної пам’яті й плекання культурних традицій свого народу. Республіка Польща – держава, в якій є одна з найбільших українських меншин і яка гостинно прихистила величезну масу українських переселенців, що покинули Батьківщину через російську воєнну агресію. Метою статті є дослідити умови для збереження ідентичности українців у Польщі через навчання дітей рідної мови. Для досягнення цієї мети реалізовано такі завдання: 1) визначено роль національної мови в збереженні ідентичности; 2) з’ясовано історико-політичні передумови існування численної української громади в Польщі; 3) окреслено відмінні типи освітніх можливостей навчання дітей рідної мови в РП; 4) виявлено тенденції в позиціонуванні української мови в польському суспільстві. У статті звернено увагу на різні типи міграції українців та виявлено певні відмінності в намірах плекати українську ідентичність, задовольняти власні національно-культурні потреби й уникати асиміляції. У сучасній шкільній освіті Республіки Польщі виокремлено три типи навчальних закладів, де навчають дітей української мови: суботні школи або навчальні заклади при громадських організаціях; середні школи з польською мовою навчання, де українську вивчають як другу іноземну; заклади освіти, які проводять навчання українською мовою. Охарактеризовано специфічні риси кожного типу. Виявлено, що основною тенденцією, яка стосується позиціонування української мови в польському суспільстві, є посилення її статусу в руслі освітньої політики Європейського Союзу через підвищення інтересу поляків до України, її мови та культури.
