Opis:
As an introduction, the elaboration shows the biblical roots of the sacrament of the anointing of the sick. Further, it presents a short history of its practice from apostolic times during Carolingian Renaissance until the Second Vatican Council. The author of this paper reveals the source of the crisis of understanding of the sacrament. In the final part of the study it presents the interpretation of the Council of Florence and the Council of Trent regarding the sacrament of anointing of the sick and describes the practice after the Council of Trent until the Second Vatican Council.
Jako wprowadzenie w artykule ukazano biblijne źródła sakramentu chorych. Następnie krótko zaprezentowano historię praktyki tegoż sakramentu od czasów apostolskich, poprzez okres renesansu aż do Soboru Watykańskiego II. Autor ukazuje źródła kryzysu rozumienia sakramentu. W końcowej części opracowania zaprezentowano interpretację sakramentu chorych według Soborów Florenckiego i Trydenckiego oraz opisano jego praktykę po Trydencie, aż do Vaticanum II.

Pastors of the Church in Poland – inspired by the prophetic vision of the Blessed John Paul – made at the beginning of the third millennium, the completion of the task of the Church that was home for their children. This is the keynote of the three-year National Pastoral Programme at the beginning of the second decade of the twenty-first century. In building a community of the Church’s fundamental role of the sacraments. Of all the sacraments of the Church meet the important role of the so-called sacraments of healing, which is the sacrament of penance and reconciliation and the sacrament of anointing of the sick. They constitute an essential component of ecclesial identity. These are the sacraments in a special way responsible for designing and building the community of the Church. The publication shows that the penance and the anointing are clearly the ecclesial character. Therefore, the Christian faithful fulfillment of all obligations arising from the sacrament of penance and anointing of the leaven of the Gospel is, that makes the Church made present in a community of unity, love and peace. Through fidelity to his vocation and witness of life man reconciled to God in the Sacrament of Penance and the Sacrament of the Anointing of the adoption of strengthened contributes to the growth of the whole Church and to His holiness. Everything, therefore, what is important in the life of the Church and what gives it the true dimension and meaning, you can find in the sacrament of penance and anointing.

Referring to the account of the Liber Pontificalis describing the attempts of the Lombard King Desiderius to get Pope Hadrian I to anoint Charlemagne’s nephews as kings of the Franks, the article addresses the importance of the ritual of royal anointing in legitimising the power of the first Carolingian monarchs. It demonstrates how the Carolingian and papal courts perceived the anointing ceremony and the Pope’s participation in it in the second half of the eighth and the early ninth century, and what content was associated with it in the practice of political actions.

In Apg 10, 38 lesen wir, daß Gott Jesus mit dem Heiligen Geist und mit Kraft gesalbt hat. Den Kontext berücksichtigend, wird es im Artikel gezeigt, daß die Taufe Jesu in Jordan – nach Lukas − eine Offenbarung seiner messianischen Mission war. Jesus war Messias, aber als Knecht Gottes und als Prophet. Während der Taufe in Jordan bekam Er die Salbung mit dem Heiligen Geist und mit Kraft, um machtvolle Taten, Wunder und Zeichen zu tun, durch die Gott Jesus beglaubigt hat. Am Ende wird die Beziehung zwischen dem Heiligen Geist und der Kraft analysiert und auch die Bedeutung dieser Gaben für die Mission von Jesu besprochen.

The tragic life of King Saul begins with the emphasis of the people, by the last judge of Israel, Samuel to set up the king-man. Although plans for salvation of Yahweh were from the beginning directed at the monarchy, but the moment and time is dependent on the Lord of Hosts, not from the people. Saul, however, is subjected to the anointing of Samuel and later also to the people, when the fate is established by the ruler of the chosen people. Saul’s history from the beginning of his kingship appears to the reader as a winning streak of Israel on the trail of battle, and there was no indication to the fact that subsequent events and deeds of Saul change the course of his life and will lead to rejection by Yahweh. Rejection of the rulers is associated with withdrawal from Saul spirit of Yahweh, and appears in the evil spirit that tormented him. Pericope 1 Sam 16,14-23 presents also the appearance of David at the royal court, whose playing was to calm the ruler and help in removing the evil spirit tormenting. An important issue in 1 Sam 16,14-23 is the fact that the ruler was supposed to be possessed by an evil spirit, which sent Yahweh, however, would He allow this? The answer appears in ancient beliefs about the concept of good and evil and their relationship with the deity or God. So considering the issue of possession of the knowledge of ancient times, people’s views should be stated that the possession of King Saul was a mental disorder, which then read as a manifestation of the evil spirit in man.

St. Augustine did not write any text dedicated to the ceremony of confirmation. Nevertheless, in the Bishop of Hippo’s texts, it is possible to find some loose statements or allusions to that ceremony. There appeared mainly the terminology which was used to present the activities related to that sacrament dispensing. This article attempts to collect these statements, and basing on that, to reconstruct the ceremony itself and also its interpretation made by St. Augustine. The collected materials allow to make cautious conclusions. There is no doubt that confirmation was applied in the Hippo Church. However, it appears that St. Augustine’s cautiousness in confirmation-related statements was result of the disciplina arcani practice. Referring to that sacrament, he emphasised the presentation of the theological contents instead of the ceremony itself.

The study shows that there is a full parallel between Mary in the Annunciation and the baptism of believers. In the Oriental interpretation, the two-stage approach observed in the Annunciation scene: the Holy Spirit who cleanses and the Son who incarnates have their counterpart in the birth of a new man – a Christian who receives the Holy Spirit through the anointing with oil, and becomes a member of Christ in the waters of baptism. So we have a Mariology which is soteriologically oriented and inseparably connected with the person of Christ. This approach, biblical and in line with tradition, seems to be particularly interesting because it allows us to see the not always empha sized dimension of our Marian devotion.
W tradycji orientalnej pomiędzy sceną zwiastowania opisaną przez Łukasza a liturgią chrztu istnieje pełna symetria. Wynika to z jednej strony z odmiennych konotacji filologicznych w kręgu języka aramejskiego, z drugiej z innego teologicznego podejścia do samego chrztu. Temat narzucił strukturę artykułu. Wychodząc od analizy pojęcia ruḥā i ḥailā w ich filologicznym syryjskim znaczeniu, omówiono działania Ducha Świętego i Słowa w zwiastowaniu i chrzcie świętym. To pozwoliło na ukazanie koncepcji oczyszczenia i włączenia do ludu Bożego nowoochrzczonych, ukazując inny wymiar namaszczenia w czasie liturgii, jednocześnie wskazując na dalsze paralele. Ukazana została jedność dzieła odkupienia, w którym wszystkie elementy są ze sobą powiązane, a mariologia jest nierozerwanie związana ze zbawczym dziełem Chrystusa. Opierając się na dostępnych tłumaczeniach tekstów Ojców Syryjskich i współczesnych opracowań chrztu w liturgii orientalnej, artykuł ukazuje nieznany wymiar egzegezy sceny zwiastowania, jak i mariologii syryjskiej.

In recent years, especially in eastern Slovakia, a new phenomenon has emerged in Catholic practice — anointing with the Holy Oil of St. Sharbel. Although the rite of such anointing is not found in any liturgical book, some Catholic priests of the Latin rite, especially in this part of the country, confer it to the Catholics of their rite. Catholics from various parts of Slovakia, western Poland, Ukraine, Moravia and others also take part in it. The author of the article mainly uses the comparative method, comparing this practice with the documents of the Magisterium and the bishop guidelines. He tries to find out if it is a sacramental in the Maronite church. If so, he states that the priests of the Latin rite cannot confer sacramental of the Maronite church without permission. The aim of the article is to find an answer to the question of whether it is a sacramental within the Catholic Church of the Latin rite or a rite that belongs to the field of human faith, such as immersion in the Lourdes water, during which several miraculous healings have taken place, but which is not accompanied by any assistance by a priest or deacon.
W ostatnich latach, zwłaszcza we wschodniej Słowacji, pojawia się w praktyce katolickiej nowe zjawisko − namaszczenie olejem św. Szarbela. Chociaż ceremonia tego namaszczenia nie znajduje się w żadnej księdze liturgicznej, niektórzy katoliccy kapłani obrządku łacińskiego, zwłaszcza w tej części kraju, udzielają go katolikom tego obrządku. Uczestniczą w nim również katolicy z innych części Słowacji, zachodniej Polski, Ukrainy, Moraw i innych krajów. Autor stosuje w artykule przede wszystkim metodę porównawczą, porównując tę praktykę z dokumentami Urzędu Nauczycielskiego Kościoła i wytycznymi biskupa. Próbuje dowiedzieć się, czy tego typu sakramentalia są w kościele maronickim. Jeśli tak, to stwierdza, że kapłani obrządku łacińskiego nie mogą, bez pozwolenia, udzielać sakramentaliów kościoła maronickiego. Celem artykułu jest znalezienie odpowiedzi na pytanie, czy chodzi o sakramentalia w Kościele katolickim obrządku łacińskiego, czy o ceremonię należącą do strefy ludzkiej wiary, jak np. zanurzenie w wodzie w Lourdes, podczas którego miało miejsce kilka cudownych uzdrowień, ale której nie towarzyszy żadna asysta ze strony kapłana lub diakona.

Sorrow, pain and sickness are occurrences experienced by every person. In such situations man very often feels hopeless, especially when he is abandoned by others. For this reason the interpersonal care and support for the sick person is needed. In our times this responsibility lies not only with the health care workers but also with the relatives and acquaintances of the sick. In the case of the people who have faith and who belong to a specific parish com- munity, this care concerns also their co-believers with the priest at the centre. This study is an attempt and offers encouragement to the new approach on everything that Catholic priests have to bring support and reassurance to the sick person. It seems that not everyone approaches to the Sacrament of the Sick correctly in our times.
Cierpienie, ból, choroba to zjawiska, których doświadcza każdy człowiek. Często w takich stanach czuje się on bezradny, zwłaszcza jeżeli jest pozostawiony sam sobie. Z tego też powodu potrzebna jest międzyludzka troska o człowieka chorego. W naszych czasach spoczywa ona na pracownikach służby zdrowia, ale też na krewnych i znajomych. W przypadku ludzi wierzących, należących do konkretnej wspólnoty parafialnej, do troski takiej muszą się poczuwać współwyznawcy z duszpasterzem na czele. Artykuł jest próbą i zachętą do ponownego spojrzenia na to wszystko, czym dysponują katoliccy duchowni pragnący przyjść z pomocą człowiekowi ciężko chorującemu. Wydaje się bowiem, że wciąż nie wszyscy poprawnie podchodzą do sakramentu namaszczenia chorych.

The publication presents the theology of the sacrament of Anointing of the Sick, legal norms contained in the codes of Canon Law of 1917 and 1983, as well as regulations regarding the Sacrament in the Apostolic Constitution Sacra Unctionem Infirmorum by Pope Paul VI of 30 Nov 1972. The Author’s analysis reveals the truth about the Sacrament, which is a special, personal relation between the suffering human and God, who wants to support him in this unique period of time of sickness and suffering. The legal regulation of the Sacrament of Anointing, inspired by the Second Vatican Council, tells us how to administer this sacrament in an solemn and dignified manner. Towards the end of this article one finds a general description of the Sacrament in other Christian Churches. An analysis of suffering and sickness in life of a Christian leads us to the question: how can they be joined with the saving passion of Christ in order to help build the community of Church?

Olej należy do najważniejszych elementów naturalnych jakie weszły do liturgii Kościoła. Chociaż używa się go w różnych obrzędach sakramentalnych i pozasakramentalnych, to jednak najbogatszą wymowę teologiczną zyskał w obrzędach chrześcijańskiej inicjacji. Niniejsze studium stanowi refleksję nad rolą i znaczeniem oleju w liturgii chrzcielnej w tradycji syro-orientalnej. W pierwszej kolejności przypomniana została nomenklatura związana z namaszczeniami w tradycjach syryjskich. Następnie czytelnik może zapoznać się z symboliką oleju i namaszczeń, jaką spotykamy w twórczości najważniejszych Ojców syryjskich. W ostatniej części zaprezentowane zostały namaszczenia w liturgicznym obrzędzie chrzcielnym Kościołów syro-orientalnych.
Oil belongs to the most important natural elements that have entered the Christian liturgy. Although it is used in various sacramental and extra-sacramental rites, the richest theological meaning it gained in the rites of Christian Initiation. This study reflects on the role and significance of oil in the baptismal liturgy in the Syro-Oriental tradition. The paper starts from the presentation of the nomenclature related to the anointing in Syrian traditions. Then one can learn about the symbolism of oil and anointing found in the works of the most prominent Syriac Fathers. The last part of research presents the anointings in the baptismal rite of the Syro-Oriental Churches.

W opracowaniu podjęto próbę analizy i interpretacji przepisów, w oparciu o które Kościół określa kryteria dopuszczania podmiotu do sakramentu namaszczenia chorych. Uwzględniono w nim dyspozycje kan. 1004-1007 KPK/83, a także stosowne przepisy liturgiczne i – w miarę potrzeby – inne kanony korespondujące. W oparciu o komentarz współczesnej doktryny prawnej oraz w nawiązaniu – tam, gdzie było to konieczne – do wątków historycznych, wyodrębniono najpierw ogólne kryteria podmiotowe, którymi są: fakt przyjęcia chrztu, osiągnięcie stanu używania rozumu oraz wejście w stan niebezpieczeństwa na skutek choroby lub starości. Następnie dokonano analizy zasady powtarzalności tego sakramentu. W dalszej kolejności scharakteryzowano wskazane przez prawodawcę przypadki szczególne, kiedy to może zachodzić wątpliwość, co do możliwości traktowania kogoś jako podmiotu sakramentu chorych. Dalej poczyniono uwagi na temat rozumienia prośby o sakrament, która powinna występować po stronie przyjmującego. Na koniec odniesiono się do zakazu udzielania tego sakramentu chorym, którzy uparcie trwają w jawnym grzechu ciężkim.
The study focuses on the analysis and interpretation of regulations used by the Church to specify the criteria of admitting a subject to the sacrament of anointing of the sick. The study takes into account the dispositions of the can. 1004-1007 (1983 CIC) and the proper liturgical instructions, as well as other corresponding canons if necessary. First, general subjective criteria are distinguished on the basis of contemporary legal doctrine and in connection with historical factors whenever they are important. These criteria include: the fact of receiving baptism, the ability to use reason, and being in a dangerous condition due to sickness or old age. Next, the rule of repetition of this sacrament is analyzed. After that, special cases shown by the legislator are described, when it is uncertain whether someone can be the subject of the sacrament of anointing of the sick or not. Next, the article focuses on the understanding of the request to be given the sacrament, which should be expressed by the recipient. Finally, the text discusses the prohibition to administer the sacrament of anointing of the sick to people who remain obstinate in grave public sin.

Artykuł dotyczy związku sakramentaliów z liturgią na przykładzie obrzędów dedykacji kościoła i ołtarza. Teologia odnowionych obrzędów, sprawowanych w trakcie procesu powstawania danego kościoła, wnosi bogaty wkład w życie wspólnoty, jej wzrost i integrację. Począwszy od poświęcenia placu budowy pod przyszły budynek, poprzez instalację kamienia węgielnego aż do poświęcenia kościoła i ołtarza, ujawniają one głębokie znaczenie i analogię do procesu chrześcijańskiego wtajemniczenia. Teologia omawianego sakramentalium jest zarówno przydatna, jak i adekwatna na okoliczność wspomnienia rocznicy konsekracji kościoła lub świętego patrona, ze względu na sam kościół, ale nie mniej i każdego człowieka. Ma to szczególne znaczenie w czasach słabnącej wiary i relatywizmu, kiedy to chrześcijańska godność człowieka, jak też wrażliwość na sacrum winny być na nowo odkrywane i doceniane.    
The article displays a relationship between the sacramentals and liturgy by the example of the rite of dedication of the church and altar. Theology of these rites celebrated during the process of erecting a particular church conveys rich spiritual impact upon the community life, their spiritual growth and integration. Starting from the blessing of the area for the future building, along the installment of the cornerstone and finaly dedication of the church and altar, the rites evince deep analogy to the process of Christian initiation. Theology of this sacramental is useful and adequate particularly on commemorating the consecration of the church or of the church's saint patron. It seems to be valuable in times of weakening faith and relativism when the Christian human dignity and the meaning of the sacred should be rediscovered and appreciated anew.

Pasterze Kościoła w Polsce – inspirowani proroczą wizją błogosławionego Jana Pawła – podjęli się na początku trzeciego tysiąclecia zadania urzeczywistniania Kościoła, aby był domem dla swych dzieci. Taka jest myśl przewodnia trzyletniego Ogólnopolskiego Programu Duszpasterskiego na początku drugiej dekady XXI wieku. W budowaniu wspólnoty Kościoła fundamentalną rolę pełnią sakramenty święte. Spośród wszystkich sakramentów Kościoła ważną rolę spełniają tak zwane sakramenty uzdrowienia, czyli sakrament pokuty i pojednania oraz sakrament namaszczenia chorych. Stanowią one nieodzowny składnik kościelnej tożsamości. Są to sakramenty w szczególny sposób odpowiedzialne za tworzenie i budowanie wspólnoty Kościoła. Z publikacji wynika, że pokuta i namaszczenie mają wyraźnie charakter eklezjalny. Dlatego wierne wypełnianie przez chrześcijan wszystkich zobowiązań płynących z sakramentu pokuty i namaszczenia chorych staje się zaczynem ewangelicznym, który sprawia, że w Kościele uobecnia się wspólnota jedności, miłości i pokoju. Poprzez wierność swojemu powołaniu i świadectwo życia człowiek pojednany z Bogiem w sakramencie pokuty i umocniony przyjęciem sakramentu namaszczenia przyczynia się do wzrostu całego Kościoła i do jego świętości. Wszystko zatem, co istotne w życiu Kościoła i co nadaje mu prawdziwego wymiaru i znaczenia, można odnaleźć w sakramencie pokuty i namaszczenia.
Inspired by the prophetic vision of Blessed John Paul, the pastors of the Church in Poland made huge efforts to ensure that the Church is becoming a real home for her children. The statement became the keynote of the Polish Pastoral Program at the beginning of the second decade of the 21st century. Building the Church community is of key importance for creating a common sense of fraternity, unity and peace in the world. The sacraments play a fundamental role in enhancing the process. Among all the sacraments, the so called Sacraments of Healing, namely the sacrament of penance and reconciliation and the sacrament of anointing of the sick, are of crucial importance, since they constitute an indispensable element of ecclesial identity. The article aims at showing the clearly ecclesial character of the sacrament of penance and the sacrament of the anointing. It also points out that faithful Christian fulfilment of all obligations arising from the sacraments of penance and anointing becomes the leaven of the Gospel, making the community of unity, love and peace present in the Church. Man reconciled with God in the Sacrament of Penance and strengthened in the Sacrament of the Anointing contributes to the growth of the whole Church and her holiness. Therefore, every important aspect of the life of the Church, and all that gives it the true dimension and meaning, can be found in the Sacraments of Healing.

The so-called Apostolic Tradition is usually considered an element of the history of the liturgy of the Roman Church. This conviction lays ultimately on two presuppositions: on the attribution of the Apostolic Tradition to St. Hippolytus of Rome and on the presence of two postbaptismal anointings in the baptismal ritual of Apostolic Tradition, which is peculiar exclusively to the Roman liturgy. However, none of these presuppositions is certain. The arguments for St. Hippolytus’ authorship are so weak, that this attribution must be considered highly improbable. The presence of two postbaptismal anointings in the Apostolic Tradition can be explained by the complexity of its baptismal ritual which seems to be a conflation of different traditions. On the other hand, the Roman tradition of two postbaptismal anointings is probably due to the episcopal prerogative to administer the confirmation and to the concession given to presbyters to anoint the neophytes with the chrism at the baptisms administered by them. This presbyteral chrismation was afterwards extended to every baptism. Consequently, the origins of the Apostolic Tradition are far from certain and its Roman provenance is by no means proved.
Tzw. Tradycja apostolska jest zwykle traktowana jako element historii liturgii Kościoła w Rzymie. Przeświadczenie to opiera się ostatecznie na dwóch przesłankach: na przypisaniu dokumentu św. Hipolitowi Rzymskiemu oraz na fakcie obecności w rytuale chrzcielnym Tradycji apostolskiej dwóch namaszczeń pochrzcielnych, co jest specyfiką rytu rzymskiego. Żadna z tych przesłanek nie jest pewna. Przypisanie Tradycji apostolskiej Hipolitowi Rzymskiemu opiera się na tak wątpliwych argumentach, że musi zostać uznane za niezwykle mało prawdopodobne. Obecność dwóch namaszczeń pochrzcielnych w Tradycji apostolskiej jest prawdopodobnie skutkiem kompilacyjnego charakteru jej rytuału chrzcielnego, zaś dwa namaszczenia w rycie rzymskim można wytłumaczyć jako skutek zastrzeżenia bierzmowania dla biskupa oraz udzielenia prezbiterom zezwolenia na namaszczanie neofitów podczas chrztu udzielanego pod nieobecność biskupa. Namaszczenie neofity przez prezbitera stało się z czasem regułą przy każdym chrzcie. Pochodzenie Tradycji apostolskiej jest zatem niepewne, jej powiązanie z Kościołem w Rzymie nie jest udowodnione.
