    Opis:
    Happiness is the subject of consideration in many branches of study. Starting from literature and books of the Bible, and going to the area of theology and philosophy, and especially philosophical anthropology and ethics, as well as humanities, such as psychology, pedagogy and others – we encounter various interpretations of it. The deliberations contained in the present article have been situated on the area of philosophical anthropology, that is metaphysics of man, which means that for this type of analysis it is necessary to connect them with a realistic understanding of man, who, being a personal being, consisting of soul and body, is a manifold potentiality that he actualizes by his autonomous – free and conscious – activities. In the analyses the reader’s attention has been called to the fact that the fulfillment of man’s personal life is a result of various human activities, including scientific-cognitive ones, undertaken in various research areas. For this reason the one gets happiness who tries to be fulfilled as a man: in his cognitive life – discovering the Ultimate Truth; in his emotional life – being united in love with the Supreme Good, and in his contemplative examination – clinging to the Supreme Beauty. Presentation of these problems is preceded with citing the main trends in explaining the issue of happiness that we encounter in philosophy.

    Problem republikanizmu należy do zespołu problemów polityki, którymi Kant zajął się już  pod koniec życia.  Rozwój i doskonalenie się człowieka nie mieści się w działaniu ludzkiej natury, która jest niezmienna, ale w osobowym działaniu wolności. Ostatecznym tego celem jest wieczny pokój. Warunkiem zaś rozwoju i osiągnięcia celu najwyższego jest zbudowanie ustroju republikańskiego. Kant pokazuje to m.in. na przykładzie rewolucji francuskiej. Choć jest zdecydowanym przeciwnikiem każdej rewolucji, ze względu na sposoby jej realizacji, to w tym przypadku jej skutki ocenia pozytywnie, gdyż wyraziło się w niej prawo narodu do swobodnego nadania sobie ustroju obywatelskiego prawego i uznanego za dobry, jakim jest ustrój republikański. Ustrój republikański jest najlepszy ze wszystkich i określa formę państwa oraz ważniejszą od niej formę rządu, charakteryzującą się rozdzieleniem władz ustawodawczych i wykonawczych oraz trzema istotnymi zasadami: 1) zasadą wolności wszystkich obywateli; 2) zasadą zależności wszystkich od wspólnego prawa; 3) zasadą równości obywateli.
    The problem of republicanism belongs to the set of issues of politics that Kant addressed towards the end of his life.  The development and perfection of man does not lie in the action of human nature, which is constant, but in the person’s action of freedom. The ultimate goal of human’s development is eternal peace. The condition for the attainment of this supreme goal is the establishment of a republican system. Kant illustrates his account of historical progress with the example of the French Revolution. Although he is a staunch opponent of every revolution because of the means of its enforcement, he views its effects positively. He thinks it expressed the right of the people to freely give themselves a civic system that is legitimate and recognised as good: a republican system, which is the best of all systems. Republicanism determines the form of the state, and, more importantly the form of government, one that is characterised by the separation of legislative and executive powers, and by three essential principles: 1) the principle of freedom for all citizens; 2) the principle of dependence of all on the universal law; 3) the principle of equality of all citizens.

    Analizy przeprowadzone w niniejszym artykule mają na celu ukazanie istoty oraz roli, jaką koncepcja dobra najwyższego pełni na gruncie moralności realistycznej Tomasza z Akwinu oraz w filozofii transcendentalnej Immanuela Kanta. Pojęcie dobra najwyższego posiada odmienne znaczenie w obu systemach filozoficznych. Desygnatem tego pojęcia w filozofii realistycznej jest dobro i cel, które w pełni aktualizują wszystkie potencjalności człowieka. Tak rozumiane dobro najwyższe utożsamia się z Bogiem. Do niego jak do swego celu ostatecznego zmierzają poszczególne decyzje i działania człowieka. Analiza kantowskiej teorii postępowania moralnego dowodzi, że działania moralne człowieka zmierzają również do dobra najwyższego. Kant rozumie je jako to, czego nic nie przewyższa. Realizowanie dobra najwyższego również stanowi cel moralności, który wypływa z nakazu rozumu praktycznego. Jednakże tego rodzaju dobro nie utożsamia się z Bogiem w rozumieniu filozofii realistycznej. Jest ono konstruktem i złożeniem dwóch celów wynikających z natury ludzkiej. Jeden z nich wypływa z natury rozumnej, drugi ze zmysłowej. Dopiero aprioryczna synteza tych dwóch ujęć, czyli cnoty i szczęśliwości, stanowi dobro najwyższe. Jego zrealizowanie domaga się przyjęcia nieśmiertelności człowieka oraz istnienia Boga, czyli postulatów rozumu praktycznego.
    Analyzes carried out in this article aim at showing the essence as well as the role that concept of the highest good fulfills in the realistic morality of Thomas Aquinas and in the transcendental philosophy of Immanuel Kant. The notion of the highest good has a different meaning in both philosophical systems. The designatum of this concept in realistic philosophy is the good and the purpose that fully update all human potentialities. The highest good understood in this way is identified with God. Individual decisions and human activities are directed towards it as an ultimate goal. The analysis of Kant’s theory of moral behavior proves that the human moral actions are also aimed at the highest good. Kant understands them as nothing beyond anything else. Realization of the highest good is also the goal of morality flowing from the imperative of practical reason. However, this kind of good is not identified with God in the sense of realistic philosophy. It is a construct and the composition of two goals arising from human nature. One of them flows from a rational nature, the other from a sensual one. Only the a priori synthesis of these two approaches, that is virtue and happiness, constitutes the highest good. Its implementation, however, requires the adoption of human immortality and the existence of God, that is, postulates of practical reason.

    Opis:
    The text analyses various examples of moral arguments for the existence of God. Taking advantage of the ideas from the writings of Kant and his interpreters, we sought to reconstruct them logically, conferring on them a form as reliable as possible. All the arguments have been divided into three groups: practical version, theoretical version, mixed version (thought to be optimal).1) Practical version. It starts from our desires, beliefs, obligations etc. and combines them with desires, beliefs, and obligations with regard to God. There are different varieties of this version. We have discussed in more detail its deontic variety based on the assumption: „we should carry out the ultimate good” (the state of happiness conditioned by virtue). Owing additional assumptions (conceptual and psychological) and corresponding simple logical operations we arrive at the conclusion: „we should believe that God exists.” Reliability, however, of such a week conclusion is undermined by the ambiguous character of the statement „we should carry out the ultimate good.” Rather, we should say that we are obliged to carry out moral law, and thereby expect a just reward. Faith in God is conducive to such efforts, inasmuch as they refer to the morality comprehended in a maximalist manner, justice, and happiness.2) Theoretical version. We have pinpointed its two varieties: „the requirement of the lawgiver” and „the requirement of justice.” In the first variety on the basis of the existence of morality we deduce the existence of God as its „author,” for no other creature has a corresponding power, moral and metaphysical, to establish (execute) universal and unconditional moral obligations. In the second variety God appears to safeguard the carrying out a just reward (punishment, inherent in morality itself) for the satisfaction (violation) of these obligations. The debate about the value of the first argument is reduced to the debate about whether morality is indeed characterised by such features whose existence cannot be explained without reference to God. The main debate connected with the second argument is whether the fact of morality entails the ontic (not only deontic) necessity of a just judgement (and its related reward or punishment) of those who are submitted to morality.3) Mixed version. According to some varieties of the practical version, it takes on a human desire to reach the ultimate good at the point of departure. This desire, natural and right, regards the existence of this good as an indicator. Hence it is possible to transfer from the practical sphere to the theoretical one. If it is well-known that the ultimate good exists, we can ask about its cause. Reasoning – similar to the one given in the previous point – leads to a belief that God is this cause. One may doubt, however, whether our natural and right desires are always reliable indicators that their objects exist.4) The above analyses have unveiled the assumptions and difficulties of all the versions of the family of arguments under consideration. Does this mean that the arguments are not efficient? Not in the least. This means only that they are efficient under certain conditions. These conditions, like anything in philosophy, make up the object of everlasting debates.
