Opis:
This paper shows the result of work of the Institute of Micromechanics and Photonics at Warsaw University of Technology and the Length and Angle Division of Central Office of Measures (GUM) [1] in building an automatic multiwavelength interferometric system with extended measurement range for calibration of long (up to 1 m) gauge blocks. The design of a full working setup with environmental condition control and monitoring systems, as well as image analysis software, is presented. For length deviation determination the phase fraction approach is proposed and described. To confirm that the system is capable of calibrating gauge blocks with assumed accuracy, a comparison between the results of 300 mm length gauge block measurement obtained by using other systems from the Central Office of Measures is made. Statistical analysis proved that the system can be used for high precision measurements with assumed standard uncertainty (125 nm for a length of 1 m). Finally the comparison between our results obtained for a long gauge block set (600 mm to 1000 mm long) and previous calibrations made by the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) [2] is shown.

Opis:
A reconfigurable and tunable multi-tap bandpass microwave photonic filter based on a hybrid-gain-assisted multi-wavelength fiber ring laser (HMFRL) is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. The HMFRL containing a hybrid gain medium and a high birefringence fiber loop mirror serves as the multiple taps generator for the microwave photonic filter. In order to realize a bandpass filter, the multiple taps are phase modulated, then the modulated signal is launched into a coil of dispersion compensating fiber to introduce different time delays for each tap. As a result, a bandpass response is obtained at the output of a high speeding photodetector. By adjusting the bias of the semiconductor optical amplifier from 344 to 450 mA, the number of multiple taps can be increased without optical signal-to-noise ratio degradation. Thus, a multi-tap bandpass microwave photonic filter with bandwidth reconfiguring from 449 to 274 MHz is achieved. In addition, by changing the length of polarization maintaining fiber in the high birefringence fiber loop mirror, the wavelength spacing of the multiple taps can be adjusted, making the bandpass microwave photonic filter’s free spectral range tunable.

Opis:
Simultaneous providing services of ultra-wideband and wired signal over single wavelength can greatly decrease the complexity and reduce the costs of a wavelength-division multiplexing passive optical network. However, ultra-wideband signal occupies the spectrum range from 3.1 to 10.6 GHz, and a narrow idle frequency band (from 0 to 3.1 GHz) could be employed to transport wired signal with a limited rate. In this paper, we proposed a scheme to simultaneously provide ultra-wideband and wired services, in which the information rate of the wired signal is enhanced by employing a multi-level amplitude switch keying signal in the idle frequency band formed by ultra-wideband signal. In comparison with other advanced modulation formats used for wavelength-division multiplexing passive optical networks such as orthogonal frequency division multiplexing, multi-level amplitude switch keying signal can be easily received by using intensity modulation direct detection, which will greatly reduce the cost of end-users. Especially, if a multi-band ultra-wideband signal is substituted for the direct-sequence ultra-wideband signal, the available spectrum range to transport wired signal will be easily extended to 5 GHz as multi-band ultra-wideband signal has a narrower spectrum width and flexible center frequency, so 4-amplitude switch keying signal with a rate of 5 Gbaud will achieve an information rate of 10 Gbit/s.
