Opis:
Introduction: Start performance in swimming plays a major role in determining the final standings, especially in sprint races. The purpose of the study was to determine kinematic parameters underlying the kick start from OSB12 in terms of the kick plate position and shoulder positioning at the start. Material and methods: The sample included 8 non-randomly recruited performance-level swimmers whose average age, body height, and body weight was 17.4 ± 1.8 years, 182.2 ± 3.4 cm and 81.00 ± 3.9 kg, respectively. To measure the kinematic parameters, we used the SwimPro camera system. The parameter rs measured included angular parameters and kinematic parameters for each of the start phases: block phase, flight phase, and water phase. We processed the collected biomechanical data using the Statistica 12.0 software. To determine significant differences between the kick plate positions in three types of start, we applied the Mann-Whitney U test. Results: We found significant differences (p<0.05) in the selected kinematic parameters in all phases, which depended on the OSB12 kick plate position and basic starting position (front-, neutral-, and rear-weighted). The greatest differences in the parameters measured were found between the front-weighted start and rearweighted start. We may conclude that performance-level swimmers should adjust the rear kick plate to positions 3 and 4 and assume the following starting position: front knee angle between 131° and 133°, rear knee angle around 80°, and trunk angle between 40° and 41°. This starting position affects the flight phase, namely takeoff angle (40⁰-41⁰), head position at takeoff (1.33-1.38 m), flight time and distance (0.346-0.368 s; 2.74-2.79 m), entry angle (38⁰). The starting position also affects the glide phase, namely the glide time and distance (0.532-0.536 s; 2.22-2.26 m) and maximum depth (-0.91-0.92 m). Conclusions: The results of the study show that swimmers produced shorter times to 5 meters and higher velocity at 5 meters compared with other starting positions and OSB12 kick plate positions.

Objectives It is commonly known that ergonomics in emergency medical services (EMS) is very important. Emergency medical services workers are exposed to different conditions and they should perform a variety of tasks. Material and Methods The aim of the work has been to analyze the angular position of elbows and forces generated by the upper limbs during cardiopulmonary resuscitation with and without the CPRmeter based on feedback technology. Ten male paramedics and 10 male non-paramedics, in a kneeling position, performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on an Ambu Megacode manikin placed on the ground. Measurements were taken after 1 min and 4 min following the beginning of the trial. The angular position of the elbows was evaluated with a BTS Smart DX 7000 motion capture system. Kistler platforms 9286BA were used for measuring forces. Results In the paramedic group, one statistically significant difference was observed in the mean difference between maximal and minimal right elbow angle in the 1st min without the device vs. the mean difference in the 4th min without the device. In the paramedic group, a 25% force decrease was observed after 4 min of resuscitation in trials without the CPRmeter in comparison to the 1st min. In trials with the CPRmeter, the force parameters were similar in the 1st and 4th min and more stable. No statistically significant differences were noticed in the control group. Conclusions The CPRmeter has influence on the magnitude of the forces applied by the upper limbs and on the optimization of the rescuer effort during cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The CPRmeter had no influence on the position of the upper part of the kinematic chain. Int J Occup Med Environ Health 2017;30(6):909–916

Velocity and accuracy of strike are important factors that help in achieving victory. The question is if the target selection can have an impact on the strike kinematics. The topic is especially important in the case of the traditional taekwon-do, in which a single kick might decide who the winner is. The aim of the paper is knowledge about the influence of the target on the kinematic factors of the front kick technique. In this study, a Polish Taekwon-do Championship runner-up was examined. The taekwon-do athlete (age: 28 years; body mass: 68 kg; height: 172 cm) is holding a 2nd degree, Motion analysis and data processing was prepared in HML (Human Motion Lab) using 10 NIR Vicon MX-T40 cameras with the acquisition speed of 100 to 2000 frames per second at full frame resolution of 4 megapixels. During the research various measurements were collected to perform dimensional analysis of foot and knee movement, describing their velocity changes as a function of time. The following strike speeds were recorded. No physical target: dominant leg foot 12.25 ± 0.18 m/s, non-dominant leg foot 13,92 ± 0,87 m/s. Small ball target/Punching ball: dominant leg foot 10,27 ± 0,29 m/s, non-dominant leg foot 10,03 ± 0,15 m/s. Kicking Shield/Shield: dominant leg foot 11,17 ± 0,34 m/s, non-dominant leg foot 10,06 ± 0,46 m/s. The quickest strike was registered when the athlete had no physical target in front of him. No focus on the target caused the fastest results. The shield target provoked a stronger and slower strike, as the speed has been slightly slower than in the non-target situation. The velocity of the foot was reduced the most when the most precision was needed. Aiming into a little ball caused the biggest speed to decrease the most. The main conclusion is that the more precision is needed, the more speed decrease will be observed.

Eye tracking constitutes a valuable tool for the examination of human visual behavior since it provides objective measurements related to the performed visual strategies during the observation of any type of visual stimuli. Over the last decade, eye movement analysis contributed substantially to the better understanding of how visual attention processes work in different types of maps. Considering the clear need for the examination of map user reaction during the observation of realistic cartographic products (i.e. static maps, animated maps, interactive and multimedia maps), a critical amount of experimental studiem were performed in order to study different aspects related to map reading process by the cartographic community. The foundation of these studies is based on theories and models that have been developed in similar research domains (i.e. psychology, neuroscience etc.), while the research outcomes that produced over these years can be used directly for the design of more effective and efficient maps. The aim of the present article is to summarize and present the current panorama of the existing eye tracking studies in cartographic research appeared over the last decade. Additionally, methodological contributions (including analysis tools) of cartographic society in the field of eye movement analysis are reported, while existing challenges and future perspectives are also discussed.

Eye tracking recordings could reveal the visual behavior for different cartographic visualization techniques, such as hill-shading, while at the same time eye tracking metrics (ETMs) can summarize the associated complexity levels in a concise and quantitative manner. In the present study, three different hill-shading methods, including:(i) the standard method based on ideal diffuse reflection, (ii) the Multidirectional ObliqueWeighted method – MDOW and (iii) the combination of a MDOW’s variation with standard hill-shading, are evaluated and ranked in terms of their perceived visual complexity. The performed examination is based on both eye tracking techniques and expert judgement procedures. A weighted combination of basic ETMs has been used, implemented by the Landscape Rating Index – LRI. The weights resulted from an experts’ judgement process where the opinions of experts in geoinformatics, cartography, geovisualization, experimental psychology, cognitive science, neuroscience and eye tracking were analyzed. Fifteen (15) individuals participated in an eye tracking experiment with hill-shading images produced by the three methods under evaluation, while 41 experts participated in an online questionnaire in order to collect all the analysis data. The final evaluation was based on the computation of three LRI models. The outcomes indicate that implementing hill-shading with more than one light sources results in similar perceptual behaviors, allowing for a seamless exploitation of the advantages of using multidirectional illumination.

Computers are used in the outdoors and in connection with cold store work. Cold hand and fingers limit data input, as studied here. Six input devices; trackballs, pens, and a mouse were tested by 19 participants in a Fitts' target acquisition task with 2 target sizes under 2 experimental conditions; warm and cold right hand. Measures were acquisition times, number of errors, participant's preferences, and observed handling of the devices. Effects of device, target size, and cold were significant. Learning and attempts to improve handgrip were confirmed. Large enough targets, a thick pen, and a mouse make computer work practicable in the cold. Direct visual feedback, as with pen on template with target images, shortened acquisition times by half a second.

Opis:
Abstract: Referring to scientific research of Donatella Della Porta, Mario Diani and Manuel Castells, concerning network structures of social movements, the author of this article tried to transfer the above deliberations to a level of political movements. It was fully justified because in the article the author refers to assumption made by Edward Olszewski that each political movements is a social movement. T herefore, a network structure of the modern Greens was presented in the article. The analysis of membership of the following: the European Green Party, the Green Group in the European Parliament, the Federation of Young European Greens and the Green European Foundation was made. The aforementioned organizations create a comprehensive network structure in which particular nodes are strengthened through networks overlapping. Although a network structure of Greens is one of the biggest European political movements, it does not translate into a social support. The European Greens get little election support not exceeding 15 per cent.

Description and analysis of a sports technique in terms of its compliance with the principles of biomechanics and with regard to the efficiency of a given technique form the basis for the technical aspect of a training process, which is supposed to result in enhancement of athletes’ sports performance level. The study was based on 6 ITF Taekwon-do (International Taekwon-do Federation) athletes (age 16.5±0.7 years; weight 64.1±7.0 kg; height 176.5±4.6 cm). The study relied on an Italian system called Smart-D, manufactured by BTS S.p.A., used for complex movement analyses. The system comprised six cameras reflecting infrared rays, which in real time located the markers fixed to the athlete’s body. In the present study the maximum velocity of the sonkal yop tearigi strike reached 13.00 ± 2.35 m/s. The velocity of the traditional fist strike seems to be lower. In this study the average maximum velocity was reached at the length of the arm being equal 92 % of the maximum length value. This length can be taken as the optimum value in this particular technique in order to achieve the maximum dynamics of the strike.

Dance is a complex and multidimensional way of communication. Using the body, and more precisely, movements and gestures, various meanings are conveyed in dance. They often have metaphorical features. A specific type of gesture is the metaphorical gesture, which is an important element of artistic communication. A metaphorical gesture conveys hidden meanings and symbolic content through some kind of incongruity (discrepancy, inconsistency, contradiction) of elements in its structure, such as facial expressions, hand and arm movements. Thanks to the semantic and aesthetic layer of the metaphorical gesture, dance becomes an original form of rhetorical, persuasive and artistic communication. The primary goal of this article is to recognize the specificity and functionality of a metaphorical gesture in dance. On the basis of a semiotic analysis of selected examples of gestures from contemporary dance performances, the functioning of this metaphorical gesture is discussed through the bodily representation of abstract ideas with the use of conceptual incongruence.

The terms “rural social movement” or “peasant movement” are used in many different senses and there is a need to systematize the theoretical concept of rural social movements (RSM) in the European, and especially post-communist context in order to understand the protest activity of agrarian communities. RSM have been present throughout the post-transition period in Poland, but the concept is applicable in other European contexts as well. This paper is an account of the origins and development of RSM in Poland. The focus is on Agrounia [Agrounion], understood as a social movement with distinct characteristics. Protest Event Analysis is used to collect information of rural protests in 2012–2022 and results are presented. Analyses indicate that there is a continuity in RSM goals, tactics and social base and Agrounia replicates the model adopted by Samoobrona [Self-Defence] in the 1990s. RSM are also considered as a political actors. They operate outside of the main established political blocs and avoid the cultural-historical cleavages determining Polish politics.

This study examined whether overcommitment and social support are related to prolonged symptoms of yips. The participants included 54 yips-affected golfers who completed measures to identify those who were overcommitted and explore their experiences with the yips and social support. Although there was a significant relationship between prolonged symptoms of the yips and overcommitment, social support was not related to its duration. The results contribute to the understanding of the prolongation of the yips in golfers and may apply to players in other sports.

This article explores the methodological implications of investigating the collective identity of Fathers For Justice (FFJ). More specifically, a three-pronged approach of employing participant observation, interviews, and content analysis is assessed as the basis for understanding FFJ’s collective identity. This methodological approach reveals that meanings and practices related to post-separation and divorced fatherhood as well as the importance of children are a significant dimension of a FFJ collective identity. I conclude that an important part of the FFJ collective identity is not based on these activists perceiving themselves as self-serving (Fathers for Just Us), but as those seeking equality in terms of being recognized as continous parents after separation and divorce (Fathers are Us).
