Opis:
The objective of the studies was to determine the penetration resistance (cohesion) of soil compacted at timber harvesting in Scots pine stands subjected to late thinning. The scope of the investigations was limited to two technologies – the mechanized one, using a harvester−forwarder machine set, as well as the motor−manual one, employing petrol chainsaws and a farm tractor for forwarding and dragging of felled trees. The analyses were performed in central Poland, in the Staszów Forest District, for two habitats – fresh mixed coniferous forest and fresh mixed deciduous forest. The measurements of soil cohesion were taken with the use of Eijkelkamp 06.15.SA Penetrologger penetrometer along the five measurement lines situated perpendicularly to the main skidding track. The soil penetration resistance was measured in eight spots for every measurement line: in the middle of the left and right wheel−rut, between the wheel−ruts, on the left and right roadside within a distance of 0.5 and 1 m from the wheel−rut edge, and 10 m from the right wheel−rut; the latter location was treated as the reference. The mechanized timber harvesting caused stronger compaction of soil, particularly in wheel−ruts, where the recorded values of soil cohesion exceeded 3 MPa (fig. 1). For the technology with farm tractor for skidding, the greatest soil compaction was also encountered in wheel−ruts, reaching up to 2.5 MPa. With regard to both logging technologies, the analysis of variability in penetration resistance of the top 10−cm soil horizon revealed a statistically significant increase in soil compaction in wheel−ruts when compared with other measuring points along and nearby the skid track (fig. 2). The employed technology of timber harvesting and the degree of soil cohesion in wheel−ruts were proved to be correlated. In respect of the mechanized variant, the mean value of soil penetration resistance in the top 10−cm layer counted up to 2 MPa and was significantly greater than the one in motor−manual technology, where it did not exceed 1.3 MPa. No significant differences in soil compaction in reference to the investigated forest habitats were revealed, though it was stronger in fresh mixed coniferous forest, with regard to both technological variants. The motor−manual technology caused the increase in soil penetration resistance by 2% on the roadside, nearly 20% in the middle of the skid track and over 70% in wheel−ruts. While the mechanized logging operations resulted in 30% increase in soil cohesion on the roadside, 55% between the wheel−ruts and over 250% inside the wheel−ruts (fig. 3).

Opis:
In Poland, more and more timber is harvested with the use of harvesters of different types. These machines can also be used in cooperation with chainsaw operators, e.g. in stands damaged by violent winds, in the removal of windthrows, or in stands of younger age classes in the technological variant with the so-called „midfield”. The aim of the study was to characterise the working time structure and to estimate the efficiency of timber harvesting with a harvester in two technological variants. In the first variant, the felling of trees was carried out by a chainsaw operator and the processing was performed by a harvester operator. In the second variant all operations were carried out by a harvester operator. In both variants, the machine worked on the skid trails, but in the second variant, the operator descended from the skid trails a short distance into the stand. Harvesting was conducted in two pine stands that were approximately the same age and differed in site conditions. The structure of the harvester operator's work time was clearly dominated by the moving of felled trees to the skid trails in both variants. Of all the activities studied, the observed differences between their durations in both variants were insignificant only in the case of delimbing and bucking (processing). In the case of cooperation between harvester operator and chainsaw operator, a higher work efficiency was achieved than in the case of timber harvesting with a harvester alone. At the same time, significantly lower work time consumption was observed. However, when considering the efficiency of the entire technologies, thinning with two workers was 30-60% more time consuming. Significant relationships were found between the amount of merchantable timber of harvested trees and the efficiency of the harvester operator.

Opis:
Introduction. Cerebral palsy (CP) is a problem presenting multiple issues and the prevalence of this condition is quite significant. CP risk factors are mainly observed in prematurely born children as well as those affected by complications around the time of birth or during the period of mother’s pregnancy. Quite frequently CP is manifested by abnormal muscle tone, contractures and deformities, and consequently impaired fine and gross motor functions. Aim. The study was designed to examine the level of hand function, i.e. fine motor skills and to investigate whether there is a correlation between development of fine motor and gross motor functions. Material and methods. The study group included 80 children with infantile CP. In the group there were 24 cases with spastic diplegia, 36 with spastic hemiplegia, and 20 with bilateral hemiplegia. During the study the children performed Box and Blocks test, and their parents filled in Manual Ability Classification System (MACS) describing the level of fine motor function development in their children. The children were additionally asked to perform two motor tasks. The first one involved an attempt to assume position on all fours, and the other one checked the ability to assume and maintain standing position. Results. The best scores in the conducted tests were found in children with CP taking the form of spastic diplegia, and the poorest scores in MACS, Box and Blocks test as well as in motor tasks assessing gross motor function were observed in children with bilateral hemiplegia. Conclusion. The form of infantile CP affects the level of manual abilities. There is a correlation between the level of gross motor and fine motor functions development.

Opis:
The development of fine motor skills in preschool and early school age children is a difficult and long process, and its disturbance may not only lead to serious problems with the process of drawing or writing, but also disrupt the purely academical learning. That is why it is so important to take into account the overall effects of improving manual skills, the specificity of the child’s perceptual and motor functioning at a given stage of development and to respect the key elements of the diagnostic and improvement strategy.

Opis:
Współczesny uczeń coraz częściej przejawia dysfunkcje w obrębie motoryki małej. Implikuje to wiele trudności w codziennym funkcjonowaniu.
Today’s students are increasingly manifesting dysfunctions in the area of fine motor skills. This entails many difficulties in daily life. Apart from problems relating to self-care activities, it also contributes to graphomotor challenges, including serious problems in learning to write. The article presents a model of hand therapy as a holistic form of support for students manifesting dysfunctions in the area of fine motor skills. It discusses an outline of hand therapy classes along with assessment and treatment measures. Finally, it presents a sample plan for working with students based on the specific nature of hand therapy classes.
