Opis:
New sources and materials discovered in the Eizyk family archive allowed us to supplement and amend the study from the 2018 issue of the Polish Dendrology Society Yearbook, which was devoted to the rose nurseries established in 1912 in Kutno, Poland, by brothers Katriel and Aaron Eizyk. Many photographs, especially those from the Eizyk family archive, brought us closer to understand the life of the Eizyks and the activity of their nurseries. The most significant addenda and amendments to the study are included in the information located below. Katriel Eizyk’s wandering in the territories of the Soviet Union during WW2 ended in a Soviet refugee or forcedlabor camp in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, which he only managed to get out of from the help of his future wife, Antonina Eizyk, née Zhukov. They came to Kutno in 1945 and there, towards the end of 1948, their only son Israel Benjamin was born. Later, in the fall of 1950, they all emigrated to Israel, where Katriel Eizyk joined an agricultural cooperative (moshav) in Ganne Yehuda (located near Tel-Aviv) and became a renowned specialist in horticulture. After WW2, Aaron, Katriel and Yehoshua Eizyk met together in Israel, and this was the last time the three brothers would all meet. Yehoshua Eizyk (= Yehoshua Eshel, 1899–1966) had already departed for the territories of the future State of Israel by 1913, and spent the remainder of his life serving in the Jewish armed forces; from 1921 in the civil-defence units (Hagana), which he also co-organized; one of the founders of the Hagana Air Force (Sherut Avir, in 1947), and after 1948 in the Israel Air Force, where he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel. Yehuda Eizyk (1897?– no sooner than spring 1941) came to the territories of the British Mandate for Palestine in 1924 with the intention of establishing a family farm for himself, his wife Tzipora and their son Itzhak. They managed to establish a modern brickyard, but were unfortunately forced to return to Poland in 1926 due to the economic crisis. Apart from Itzhak Eizyk, their eldest son, all the remaining members of that family branch fell victim to the Holocaust. Two younger sisters of Katriel, Aaron, Yehuda and Yehoshua were Rosa and Sarah Eizyk. Sarah Eizyk came to the territories of the British Mandate for Palestine in the 1930s, and served in the British Army in WW2. Rosa Eizyk fell victim to the Holocaust.
