    Jewish education is based on normative axiology tarjag micwot which include ethical values and fundamental social norms, including legal values. Historically and contemporary teaching in Judaism is grounded on the values included in 613 commandments of the Jewish moral and legal axiology. The values comprised in commandments of the Judaism were borrowed from the Christian axiology, however some of them were adopted in Islam. Contemporary many values stemming from Jewish commandments appear in non-religion axiology. In order to develop knowledge, skill and competences nthese values are still relevant.

    This article aims at examining to what extent Macer’s theory “sustainable development chair” (where cultural education, and the axiology and moral education within it comprises one of four fundamentals of education for sustainable development) is reflected in the capacity of knowledge and skills obtained by pedagogy students PWSZ in Chelm. The starting point for consideration is to present and analyse the questionnaire results carried out by students of the 1st and 3rd year of pedagogy PWSZ in Chelm. These results became the basis for the following workshop activities performed with the drama method application (covering those such as improvisation with the literary text, body movement and voice performance, role play). The authors intended, first of all, to assess students’ integrated order concept understanding (and within this concept: axiology and moral education) implemented with traditional instructional methods, and then innovative (drama and staging ones); secondly, to obtain materials enabling the most effective methods of education for balanced development implementation to be defined. An additive element of conducted activities was the analysis of potential students’ engagement into a new idea implementation.

    The present study examines the relation between the moral intuitions proposed by the ‘Moral Foundations Theory’ according to J. Haidt and the moral orientations in relation with moral competence, as described by the ‘Dual-Aspect Model of Moral Behaviour’ according to G. Lind. It is an empirical exploration of the relation between the five foundational domains (and/or the corresponding two higher-order clusters) and the moral orientations, as this results from the theoretical assumptions of both theories, and the influence on and of the moral competence on these aforementioned relations. The shared affective and, at the same time, habitual characteristics of moral intuitions and moral orientations, although based on different theories (intuitionism, respectively, cognitivism) should converge in a dynamic relationship. The basic motivation is the need to overcome the affective-cognitive disjunction in the study of moral judgment, which is artificial. The human (moral) reasoning is always a situated and situating one, in a symbolic narrative universe, in which the cognitive-affective dichotomy forms a dynamic unity. This overstated dichotomy is only a methodological necessity, but unfortunately hypostasized in an explanatory mechanism that leads to the impermissible simplification of the phenomenon that it seeks to understand. The empirical results confirm the limits of both cognitive and intuitions paradigms and advocates for a more nuanced and dynamic approach in understanding the moral judgment within a more comprehensive conception on human personality. Finally, the implications for the contemporary psychology’ paradigm are discussed.

    Postęp moralny. Współczesna perspektywa przewodniej idei Oświecena. Większość myślicieli epoki Oświecenia wierzyła, że ład panujący w świecie, jako oparty w ostatecznej instancji na prawie bożym, jest dobry, a więc każdy przyrost wiedzy będzie miał dobre konsekwencje. Zakładano, że rozwój naukowy pociąga za sobą rozwój moralny. Chociaż faktycznie w cywilizacji zachodniej nastąpił pewien postęp moralny, to jednak jest on bardzo niewspółmierny z postępem nauki. Oświeceniowe pojęcie ciągłego postępu nauki i moralności okazało się w dużej mierze błędne. Złożyło się na to kilka powodów: (1) Moralność publiczna i nauka rozwijają się niezależnie i mogą się zarówno wzajemnie wzbogacać, jak też hamować. (2) W porządku świata nie ma żadnych obiektywnych wartości, które można by odczytać, a potem kierować się nimi. Wartości, które faktycznie realizujemy, są względne. Zostały wygenerowane i ukształtowane przez ewolucję, a zatem powinniśmy raczej je nadzorować, niż ich przestrzegać. (3) Nasza moralność, która jest tworem ewolucji, jest wadliwa i niewystarczająca. Z trudem podlega postępowi; łatwo zaś — doktrynalnej manipulacji. (4) Większość ludzi wykazuje metaetyczną niekompetencję, czyli niezdolność do zajęcia uzasadnionego krytycznego stanowiska wobec zastanych norm, co sprawia, że postęp moralny zależy od tych, którzy osiągnęli metaetyczną kompetencję, wychodząc poza konwencjonalne fazy rozwoju moralnego.
    Most Enlightenment thinkers believed that the World’s order (as ultimately based on divine laws) is good and thus every gain of knowledge will have good consequences. Scientific process was assumed to entail moral progress. In fact some moral progress did occur in the Western civilization and science contributed to it, but it is widely incommensurate with the progress of science. The Enlightenment’s concept of a concerted scientific and moral progress proved largely wrong for several reasons. (1) Public morality and science evolve largely independently and may either enhance or inhibit each other. (2) There are no objective values to be read in the World’s order and simply followed. Instead, our real, subjective values and the moral systems they fuel have all been generated and shaped by evolution rather than designed to be universally good, a nd thus ought to be managed rather than simply followed. (3) Our evolved morality is flawed, deficient, prone to doctrinal manipulation and refractory to progress. (4) The majority of people show metaethical incompetence in failing to take a reasoned critical stand toward the principles and assumptions of received morals. This makes moral progress largely dependent on those who reach metaethical competence by transcending the conventional stages of moral development.

    The moral views of Lucius Annaeus Seneca express the pragmatic axiology of education which aimed to bring up a Roman citizen, a law-abiding person who followed common sense and an ethical code. At the same time, that citizen was aware of the public good and his self-esteem. These views of Seneca express a stoic concept of the human being’s autonomy. These views have been instrumental in defining the pedagogic ideas and are still significant for contemporary axiology of upbringing. Seneca’s moralia include axiology for education, which focuses on bringing up a human who is wise, reasonable, responsible, and efficient. This axiology is timeless.

    Przebaczenie sobie stanowi jedną z najbardziej kontrowersyjnych decyzji, nie tylko ze względu na fakt samodzielnego uwalniania się od konsekwencji moralnie złych wyborów dokonywanych przez jednostkę, ale także z uwagi na łączenie go z ukrytym, udzielanym sobie, przyzwoleniem na wykonywanie podobnych aktów w przyszłości. Równocześnie w literaturze psychologicznej ukazywane są pozytywne aspekty przebaczenia sobie. Niniejsze analizy poświęcone są moralnej wartości przebaczenia sobie i w konsekwencji prawomocności włączania go jako celu w proces wychowania. W kolejnych punktach najpierw decyzja o przebaczeniu sobie porównywana jest do aktów samouniewinnienia, samousprawiedliwienia i samoułaskawienia, następnie analizowany jest czyn, w odniesieniu do którego jednostka ma prawo podjąć decyzję o przebaczeniu sobie, wreszcie podejmowana jest refleksja nad procesem przebaczenia sobie oraz jego warunkami.
    Forgiving oneself is considered to be one of the most controversial decisions. Not only because this is when we release ourselves from the consequences of our morally wrong choices, but also because it seems to suggest that we give ourselves an implicit consent to perform similar acts in the future. Nevertheless, psychological literature points to positive aspects of self-forgiveness. This study focuses on the moral value of self-forgiveness, and consequently, the legitimacy of including it as one of the objectives in the education process. Firstly, the decision to forgive oneself is compared to acts of self-acquittal, self-justification, and self-pardon. Secondly, an analysis ensues of the act to which the right of self-forgiveness can be applied. Finally, the process of self-forgiveness is discussed along with the conditions it requires.

    The author offers a new approach to a phenomenon of social legends of great individuals from a philosophical point of view. He starts with a presentation of his interpretation of the concept of the Platonic tradition of a divine man and a cult or hagiography of such men in the ideal Platonic state, alongside with an explanation, inspired by Platonic authors. He collates this concept and its justification (rationalization) with today’s social and political reception of axiology, in order to present it as an epiphany of higher values. He collates it also with the results of philosophical reflection on a ductility of history, in order to show it as a prototype of something real in its historical efficiency. The author ends with summary and explanation of his proposal.

    Philosophy, which reflects different anthropological solutions and theories of humanity, considered in the perspective of Christian philosophical anthropology in Poland, is the Thomistic phenomenology of action of K. Wojtyła – John Paul II. In this philosophical concept the starting point is the personal and axiological experience. It is analysis of the acts of conscious action. Act reveals the person (the moral significance of the person). Widely understood Wojtyla’s Personalism is a chance of a creative meeting for two philosophies – from Lublin and Cracow. The more the use of his thoughts, the more developed they become.

    Biotechnologia należy do jednej z najszybciej rozwijających się dziedzin nauki. We współczesnej debacie bioetycznej nierzadko spotkać można opinię wskazującą na to, że biotechnologię jako naukę należy uznać za etycznie neutralną, a jedynie jej zastosowania powinny podlegać kwalifikacji moralnej. Zaprezentowana w artykule charakterystyka biotechnologii skłania autora do zaproponowania tezy przeciwnej. W pracy badawczej biotechnolog napotyka zagadnienia domagające się podejmowania decyzji o charakterze moralnym. Stąd w artykule przedstawiono pogląd, iż praktyka naukowa należąca do biotechnologii „nasycona” jest wartościami moralnymi. Uznanie aksjologicznego i etycznego wymiaru biotechnologii prowadzi jednocześnie do wniosku, że w codziennej praktyce badawczej naukowiec winien świadomie uwzględnić moralne aspekty swoich działań oraz wziąć pod uwagę dobro osoby ludzkiej. W artykule zaproponowano również ogólny model etosu biotechnologa oparty na etyce personalistyczno-tomistycznej.
    Biotechnology is one of the most rapidly progressing field of modern science. In contemporary bioethical debate one can frequently find views, stating that biotechnology as a field of science is ethically neutral and only its applications should be evaluated ethically. Based on the description of biotechnology presented herein, the author of the article supports the opposite thesis. In scientific work biotechnologist frequently meets issues that require moral decisions to be made. Therefore, the article presents the view, that scientific practice in the field of biotechnology is filled with moral values (value-ladenness of science). Accepting axiological and ethical context of modern biotechnology leads us to the conclusion that in daily scientific practice scientists should consciously take into account moral aspects of their activity and also attract their attention to protect the good of human person. In addition, the article presents the basic model of biotechnologist’s ethos based on Thomistic Personalism.
