Opis:
The article presents the current groundwater monitoring system in Poland. It points out the ambiguity of the terminology and the correlation between the previous concept, based on the areal criterion for monitoring networks (national, regional and local) and the recently introduced three types of monitoring: diagnostic, operational and research monitoring. In this context, the problem of changing legal regulations that govern the groundwater monitoring has been given special attention. Constant changes in the legal acts result in the ambiguity about who is currently responsible for the groundwater monitoring system and its various types in Poland. The paper explicitly addresses the question of the functioning of the local monitoring in Poland and the presentation of the results. It has been found out that the approach to the local and research monitoring ofgroundwater in annual reports on the state of the environment in particular regions published by the Voivodeship Inspectorates of Environmental Protection (WIOS) is inconsistent. These reports, being an essential element in disseminating information about the environment, should be complete, clear and consistent. Unfortunately, the quality of reports is highly variable in both technical terms and the merits. In many cases, they are incomplete due to the lack of information about the local monitoring as well as the fact that the issue of groundwater is frequently dealt with in a very superficial manner. The access to the data contained in these reports is sometimes difficult because of their different location on the websites of WIOS.

Opis:
This paper synthetically describes the stages and methods used in the course of research carried out within the integrated groundwater monitoring system in Gdańsk and Sopot in 2011–2014. The study was divided into 3 stages: surveillance, operational and research monitoring. Surveillance monitoring, implemented in 2011–2012, involved comprehensive assessment of the groundwater state. Operational monitoring, carried out in 2013, was intended to confirm the previously identified hydrogeochemical anomalies and to establish ongoing trends in quality changes. The third stage of the research was conducted in post-industrial and urban areas of Gdańsk, where groundwater contamination had been identified. The work focused on the determination of the type, extent, concentration and rate of transport of contaminants. Another task was to prepare a tool enabling efficient use of collected information. It was decided to create a platform for hydrogeological information exchange (environmental database) in the form of geoMonitoring web application.

Opis:
The paper presents the water quality of the Quaternary aquifer in the area of reclaimed open pit Maczki-Bór in the light of results of monitoring investigations carried out in 1995-2014. The area consists of mine workings, the reclaimed field of Bór Zachód, and the area of Bór Wschód, which is under reclamation. Processing and mining material from coal mines is mainly deposited in the mine excavations. In the northern part of the Bór Zachód field, there is a municipal waste dump for the Sosnowiec city. The monitoring network consists of 12 piezometers monitoring groundwater of the Quaternary aquifer, 3 monitoring points on the major dewatering canals, and 2 points on the Biała Przemsza River (upstream and downstream of the cumulative mine dewatering discharge). The monitoring of the leachate is carried out in 2 observation wells located in the deposited rock on the dumping ground of Bór Wschód. This article discusses the significantly spatially diverse chemistry and quality of groundwater and surface water affected by varied anthropopressure.

Opis:
The progressive citification of urban spaces results in compacting buildings and deeper foundation of new objects, and even deepening of existing facilities - to obtain maximum use of underground space. This process significantly interferes with the geological environment, both in the local (single deep foundation objects) and district (linear objects such as subways, tunnels, sewage collectors, groups of deep foundation objects). In Warsaw, underground urbanization extends several dozen meters deep and reaches the upper parts of the Neogene deposits, often fully intersecting Quaternary deposits. The progressing urbanization, and in particular the cumulative influence of deep foundation structures, creates a new set of factors with a potentially significant impact on the hydrogeological conditions of the Quaternary aquifer, including also the deep-seated aquifer, so far not having placed under a direct hydrogeodynamic impact. This article presents an assessment of the impact of underground development on the groundwater flow structure, with a particular emphasis on the deformation of the filtration mesh as a permanent result of object built-in into the groundwater stream. The analysis is based on the real case study of the implementation of a building located in the area vulnerable to hydrogeodynamic changes, where additionally can occur a cumulative impact with underground subway tunnels. Model simulations of the building foundation impact on the hydrogeodynamic conditions of the environment were performed. The results of prognostic model calculations were compared with the observations of changes in the groundwater level during construction works. The results indicate slight, permanent changes in groundwater levels, an increase in hydraulic gradients and changes in water flow directions. The scope of the changes was considered safe for the environment and building objects, allowing even a deeper foundation, although not devoid of the need for a long-term observation of groundwater levels. The obtained results indicate the usefulness and utilitarianity of numerical modeling methods in the analysis of hydrogeological conditioning of deep foundations.
