Opis:
This paper reports extensive simulation research into the use of the hexagonal quantizer in current-regulated delta modulators (CRDMs) for AC motor drive applications. It is demonstrated that the hexagonal quantizer with an appropriately selected threshold significantly lowers the current harmonic distortion and dramatically reduces the switching frequency of inverter devices, as compared to the conventional CRDM. Basic information is given on how the simulations were organized and sequenced to ensure fast steady-state convergence, as well as minimize the required data transfers.

Opis:
The principle of operation and the general parameters of the electro-optical Mach-Zehnder modulators are reminded in the paper. With the use of the mathematical relationships describing the transmission of the optical signal through the modulator, the theoretical model of the optical signal transmission with two modulating signals at two frequencies will be presented. The theoretical relationships describing the efficiency of the optical-microwave mixing and frequency multiplying in the two-tone operation will be derived. The analysis and the simulations will be performed for different operating points, where the nonlinearity of the transmission characteristic is specially strong.

Opis:
Traditional electro-optic modulators are not optimized for bandpass applications such as radio-on-fiber delivery systems due to their limited electro-optic response. This paper presents a resonant electrode structure that can be employed in optical modulator designs to enhance the electro-optic response of the modulator over a narrow frequency band, and improve the performance of optical radio systems. A simple model of the structure is developed, and experimental results validating the model and illustrating the effectiveness of the structure are presented.

W pracy przeanalizowano wpływ czasów załączania i wyłączania układów przełączających modulatorów szerokości impulsu na napięcie wyjściowe wytwarzane przez wielomiarowe źródło wzorcowego napięcia stałego. Zaproponowano modyfikację układu umożliwiającą zmniejszenie tego wpływu.
Analysis of the effect of turn-on and turn-off times of switches in the pulse-width modulators on the voltage generated by the source of a standard DC voltage is presented in the paper. A modification of the circuit leading to reduction of this effect is also proposed.

W pracy przestawiono koncepcję i podstawowe właściwości modulatora szerokości impulsu (PWM), w którym zastosowano dodatkową modulację amplitudy fragmentu przebiegu o szerokości równej jednemu okresowi przebiegu taktującego. Celem tej modyfikacji jest zwiększenie rozdzielczości nastawy wartości współczynnika wypełnienia modulatora, pełniącego rolę przetwornika cyfowo-analogowego w wielomiarowym źródle wzorcowego napięcia stałego.
The paper presents the idea and basic properties of a pulse-width modulator (PWM) with additional amplitude modulation of the part of the signal. The width of the amplitude-modulated part is equal to one clock period. The reason of this additional modulation is to increase the resolution of setting the duty cycle of the PWM signal. The modulator is used as a digital to analog converter in an adjustable source of standard dc voltage.

Opis:
Analysis of electrooptic modulators of the light strength working with divergent light beam is performed numerically employing the Jones matrices method. The approach allows to consider small inaccuracies in cutting and alignment of electrooptic crystal and the divergence of entering light beam. The results show that the divergence typical for gas lasers should not affect significantly the work of electrooptic modulators even for large electrooptic crystals, while diode lasers may be used with modulators only in the form of precise modules equipped with colimation optics.
Przeprowadzono numeryczną analizę elektrooptycznych modulatorów natężenia światła pracujących z rozbieżną wiązka światła przy wykorzystaniu rachunku macierzy Jonesa. Zastosowany model dopuszcza małe niedokładności wycięcia i orientacji kryształu elektrooptycznego, które mogą być uwzględnione razem z rozbieżnością padającej wiązki światła. Wyniki obliczeń pokazują, że rozbieżność wiązek światła wytwarzanych przez typowe lasery gazowe nie powinna znacząco wpływać na pracę elektrooptycznych modulatorów, nawet wtedy gdy stosowane są duże kryształy o rozmiarach rzędu kilkudziesięciu centymetrów. Diody laserowe nadają się jednak do użycia z modulatorami tylko w postaci precyzyjnych modułów zawierających optykę formującą równoległą wiązkę światła.

W pracy przedstawiono rozwiązanie konstrukcyjne układu obciążenia energoelektronicznego. Głównym przeznaczeniem zaprojektowanego urządzenia jest kontrolowany pobór prądu/mocy z prądnicy prądu stałego, która z kolei często wykorzystywana jest jako sterowane obciążenie mechaniczne dla różnego rodzaju silników elektrycznych. Przedstawione rozwiązanie ułatwia procedurę badawczą napędu elektrycznego m.in. poprzez symulowanie różnego rodzaju charakterystyk obciążenia mechanicznego (charakter dźwignicowy, prądnicowy, wentylatorowy). W pracy zaprezentowano budowę obwodu mocy, sposób jego sterowania oraz wyniki badań układu prototypowego.
Presented paper gives an overview of the design process of a programmable power electronic load system. The main aim of the proposed structure is a controllable current/power consumption of a direct current machine, which is a common load simulator in case of electrical machine test stand construction. The main task of designed system is the usage convenience and programmability in case of typical load profiles (fan, pump, lift). The design phase is described shortly after a brief overview of existing concepts and their main characteristics. Main digital control system is depicted with a stand-alone user's interface.

The influence of common plant polyamines on feeding behaviour and survival of grain aphid (Sitobion avenae F., Hemiptera: Aphididae) has been studied. Laboratory tests showed that wingless females of S. avenae assimilated higher quantities of food from triticale seedlings placed in 0.01% solutions of agmatine and cadaverine, and lower in case of spermidine and spermine. Increase in the polyamines concentrations up to 0.10% caused strong decrease in food assimilation, especially under the agmatine, cadaverine and putrescine treatment. Moreover, 0.10% concentration of the all analyzed polyamines decreased body mass and reduced survival of grain aphid wingless females. The 0.01% concentration of the polyamines were not affecting survival and body mass of S. avenae with exception of spermidine. Importance of the polyamines as potential natural biopesticides to the grain aphid is discussed.

The paper presents definitions and relative measures of the system sensitivity and sensitivity of its errors. The model of a real system and model of an ideal measuring system were introduced. It allows to determine the errors of the system. The paper presents also how to use the error sensitivity analysis carried out on the models of the measuring system to the correction of the nonlinearity error of its static characteristic. The corrective function is determined as a relation between the input variable of the tested system and its chosen parameter. The use of the proposed method has been presented on the example of a phase angle modulator. The obtained results have been compared with the results of analytic calculations. The idea of a phase angle modulator is also presented.

The article describes concept of the vector modulator in the control system for the traction drives. The purpose of the proposed modulator is a connection of the well known vector control system with the inverters working with the low switching frequency. These systems are known to have strongly deformed signals of the currents and voltages with significant content of the higher harmonics. The modulator replaces a required voltage vector by the sequence of the well defined space vectors to be realized by a widely used PWM unit. The proper sequence of the vectors with precise PWM frequency leads to the low harmonic contents and the smallest possible deformation of the currents. The article presents the experimental results with the induction motor supplied by the traction inverter with switching frequency fixed at 400Hz.

Opis:
This paper provides an overview of the effects of timing jitter in audio sampling analog-to-digital converters (ADCs), i.e. PCM (conventional or Nyquist sampling) ADCs and sigma-delta (ΣΔ) ADCs. Jitter in a digital audio is often defined as short- term fluctuations of the sampling instants of a digital signal from their ideal positions in time. The influence of the jitter increases particularly with the improvements in both resolution and sampling rate of today’s audio ADCs. At higher frequencies of the input signals the sampling jitter becomes a dominant factor in limiting the ADCs performance in terms of signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and dynamic range (DR).

Opis:
One of the main building blocks of a Delta-Sigma modulator (ΔΣ?) is the integrator circuit. Usually this is implemented either in discrete or in continuous time domains using amplifiers. This paper analyses a ΔΣcircuit based on the implementation of passive switched-capacitor (SC) integrator using ultra incomplete settling. The behavior of a 1st order ΔΣ? is fully analyzed and explained, as well as its non-ideal effects, which become more significant for higher clock frequencies. This work compares performance of ΔΣM clocked with Fclk=100 MHz and Fclk=300 MHz. Electrical simulations show that the ΔΣM (Fclk=300 MHz) achieves a peak signal-to-noise-plus-distortion ratio (SNDR) of 67.5 dB, a peak signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of 69.7 dB for a signal with a bandwidth (BW) of 400 kHz, while dissipating only 232μW from a 1.1 V power supply voltage, resulting in a figure-of-merit (FOM) of 165 fJ/conv.-step (simulated).

W pracy omówiono zasadę działania współczesnych monolitycznych układów konwerterów sigma-delta stosowanych do formowania analogowego sygnału pomiarowego o wartości skutecznej napięcia. Dokonano przeglądu właściwości monolitycznych układów konwerterów sigma-delta do pomiaru wartości skutecznej napięcia i porównano z właściwościami monolitycznych klasycznych konwerterów stosowanych do takich pomiarów. Istotnymi zaletami monolitycznych układów konwerterów sigma-delta do pomiaru wartości skutecznej są: duża dokładność formowania analogowego wyjściowego sygnału pomiarowego, bardzo mały pobór mocy na wejściu oraz szerokie pasmo częstotliwościowe mierzonego napięcia wejściowego.
The monolithic sigma-delta converters are very useful for measurement root-mean-square time-varying voltage circuits. The fig. 1 shows converter block diagram, which got possibility to describe the mathematical function for calculation RMS value of input AC voltage. The fig. 2 shows block diagram of multiplier-divider circuit containing identical two controlled elements having the very same controlled amplification. In the fig. 3 is shown the circuit diagram of sigma-delta modulator and characteristic of comparator, which is a part of the modulator. According to fig. 3 was formulated equation (15) as the characteristic description of multiplier-divider circuits, which is the main element of sigma-delta true RMS converter for input voltage measurement. The part 3 of this paper describes the parameters review of monolithic RMS converters. The table 1 presents the parameter values of selected group RMS converters, which are delivered by several much known firms. The converters parameters analysis shows, that monolithic sigma-delta converters have very good qualities in the parameter field of accuracy, minimal signal power consumption and wide frequency band of input measurement signals.
