Opis:
In the paper selected problems related to diagnostics of onboard generators and alternators fitted with control systems are discussed. Problems refer to commutator generators and synchronous single- and threephase alternators. Special attention is paid to commutation effects. Results of incorrectness and possibility to detect them are discussed. There are also discussed effects associated with changes in a character of pulsation, which occur during shortings or insulation clearances in rotor or stator wiring. Possibility of diagnosis of generator’s or alternator’s parts by means of analysis of pulsation component parameters is indicated. In the case of alternators a number of diagnostic methods based on observation of changes in shape of voltage or frequency modulation, is discussed. This allows to detect many mechanical or electrical faults of generators, alternators or their control systems.

Opis:
The paper presents a simple method for estimating nonlinear frequency distortions of linear frequency modulated (LFM) signals used in FMCW radars. This method, derived from the polynomial model of the nonlinear FM signal phase, is based on finding the maximum of two-dimensional chirp-like transform of the IF video signal. The IF signal is obtained by mixing transmitted FM signal with its delayed copy. Using suggested transform we show that the presented method is able to detect and classify signal distortions.

The operation of a wind turbine (WT) is characterized by fluctuations in sound pressure amplitude associated with the passage of the propeller blade through the tower. Amplitude Modulation (AM) is one of the factors that contributes to the increased annoyance of wind turbine noise. The phenomenon of AM is currently the subject of research in many research centers around the world in the context of a parametric assessment of its impact on annoyance. Despite the development of many methods to measure the AM of a WT noise, there is no commonly accepted method. This paper discusses the most crucial factors that stimulate the phenomenon of AM and the implementation in the MATLAB environment of the algorithm to find the frequency and depth of AM proposed by the Amplitude Modulation Working Group (AMWG). The results of verification of the developed algorithm as well as the measurement results of the frequency and depth of modulation for two measurement samples of a 2 MW wind turbine are presented.

The possibility of a normal distribution indicates that few particles are in the same phase during a breath and their reflections can be observed on the chest wall, then a few explosive waves with relatively large power occurr occasionally. Therefore, the one-cycle sine wave which is simulated as a single burst of the explosive effect phenomenon penetrates through the chest wall and was analysed to explore the reason of the crackle sounds. The results explain the differences between the definitions of crackle proposed by Sovijärvi et al. (2000a). The crackles in the lungs were synthesised by a computer simulation. When the coarse crackles occur, the results indicate that higher burst frequency carriers (greater than 100 Hz) directly penetrate the bandpass filter to simulate the chest wall. The simulated coarse crackle sounds were low pitched, with a high amplitude and long duration. The total duration was greater than 10 ms. However, for a lower frequency carrier (approximately 50 Hz), the fundamental frequency component was filtered out. Therefore, the second harmonic component of the lower frequency carrier, i.e., the fine crackle, penetrated the chest wall. Consequently, it is very possible that the normal lung sounds may contain many crackle-shaped waves with very small amplitudes because of the filtering effects of the chest wall, environment noises, electric devices, stethoscopes, and human ears, the small crackles disappear in the auscultations. In addition, our study pointed out that some unknown crackles of the very low frequency under the bandwidth of the human ears cannot penetrate the airways and be detected by medical doctors. Therefore, it might be necessary to focus advanced electronic instrumentation on them in order to analyse their possible characteristics for diagnosis and treatment of the respiration system.

The implementation of reliable acoustic underwater communication in shallow waters is a scientific and engineering challenge, mainly due to the permanent occurrence of the multipath phenomenon. The article presents the concept of a transmission system using a broadband signal with hyperbolically modulated frequency (HFM) to transmit data symbols and synchronize data frames. The simulation tests were carried out in channels with Rician fading, reflecting the short- and medium-range shallow water channels. The simulation also took into account the presence of additive Gaussian noise in the channel on the functioning of the receiver. The obtained results prove the high reliability of the underwater communication system based on broadband HFM signals.

In this paper effectiveness of spread spectrum modulation techniques to the electromagnetic interference (EMI) suppression is investigated. Comparative evaluation of spread spectrum methods is reviewed and demonstrated with the aid of function generator and EMI receiver. Obtained results indicate advantageous features of random carrier frequency modulation (CFM), which results in more steady spectral distribution. For a switch mode dc-dc converter, random and periodical sinusoidal CFM is systematically tested. Based on disturbance voltage measurements using Line Impedance Stabilization Network (LISN) and EMI receiver, conducted emission spectra are evaluated in function of the defined randomness index R and frequency range. For the acceptable range of R variations up the 20dB EMI suppression level was reached.

Obecnie brak specyfikacji normatywnej flickermetru do modulacji FM. Prezentowany model ułatwia zrozumienie działania badanego toru sygnałowego flickermetru i weryfikację prawidłowości działania rzeczywistych układów pomiarowych w rozpatrywanym zakresie częstotliwości sygnału modulującego FM.
The aim of studies presented in the paper is a structure of the simple model for FM frequency modulation of the input signal. There is a lack of the flickermeter standard specification in this subject. Based on results of numerical simulations, evaluation of approximation correctness of characteristics for FM modulation with harmonic as well as rectangular waveforms has been made. The equations for FM modulation using slowly varying signals and signals in the frequency range from 1 Hz to 100 Hz are proposed. The presented model facilitates understanding the operation of the tested flickermeter signal chain and verification of the operation correctness of real measuring systems in the considered frequency range.

W artykule przedstawiono metody przetwarzania impulsowego sygnału częstotliwościowego. Opisane metody pozwalają na odtworzenie wartości wielkości mierzonej w stałych odstępach czasu w trybie on-line i off-line. Przeprowadzono symulację pomiaru prędkości obrotowej przetwornikiem obrotowo-impulsowym, wyznaczając wartości błędu pomiaru i efektywnej liczby bitów. Wykazano mniejszą wartość błędu i większą wartość efektywnej liczby bitów dla metody wykorzystującej dwa przedziały między-impulsowe.
Methods for processing a frequency-modulated pulse signal are presented in this paper. The methods allow acquiring information about the frequency of a pulse signal with constant sampling frequency. These methods, depending on the time instant for which the measurement result is determined, can be divided into two groups. In measurements on-line the measured value is determined based only on the position of pulses preceding the moment of measurement. The method in which the measured value is determined from the last period and that in which the measured value is determined from extrapolation of two last periods (Fig. 1) are described. In measurements off-line, first there is saved the location of all pulses in the time of recording, and after there is determined the value measured in the assumed moments of the measurement. Therefore, in this case the measured value is determined not only by the position of pulses before the moment of measurement, but also those occurring after this time. The method in which the measured value is determined from the current period and that in which the measured value is determined from interpolation of two periods (Fig. 2) are described in the paper. The accuracy of conversion is determined by a relative error or the number of bits, and thus by the resolution. The noise added to the useful signal has a significant impact on the processing accuracy in real measurements. Therefore the ENOB (Effective Number of Bits), the number of digital signal bits above the noise, is more useful than the resolution. The paper presents examples of simulation results for speed measurements (Tables 1, 2). As it can be seen from the results, increase in the standard generator frequency allows increasing the effective number of bits only to a certain limit. Further increase in the frequency does not increase the ENOB value due to the noise being a result of the method used.

Different from the synchronization mechanism of synchronous generators, the non-synchronous generators must be synchronized with the grid through a controller. Generally, the virtual synchronous generator (VSG) control strategy is adopted for this purpose. In view of the current situation, where the control loops are not comprehensively considered in the research of the synchronization stability of the VSG, this paper considers multiple control loops, such as active frequency loops, virtual governors, power filters and current constraint control, to establish the mathematical model of the VSG and infinite system. On this basis, the correlation formula between power angle difference and control parameters is deduced. Adopting the phase plane method, the influence of different control loops and their parameters on the transient synchronization stability is analyzed. Finally, a setting principle of the frequency modulation coefficient of virtual governors is proposed, which not only meets the response speed of control systems, but also has good control performance.

The secretiveness of sonar operation can be achieved by using continuous frequency-modulated sounding signals with reduced power and significantly prolonged repeat time. The application of matched filtration in the sonar receiver provides optimal conditions for detection against the background of white noise and reverberation, and a very good resolution of distance measurements of motionless targets. The article shows that target movement causes large range measurement errors when linear and hyperbolic frequency modulations are used. The formulas for the calculation of these errors are given. It is shown that for signals with linear frequency modulation the range resolution and detection conditions deteriorate. The use of hyperbolic frequency modulation largely eliminates these adverse effects.

The subject of the paper is generation of frequency-modulated pulse signals. The method for determining the position of a next pulse signal, e.g. linear, exponential and sinusoidal waveforms, is presented in this paper. Location of the next pulse at time instant ti is determined in such a way that the inverse of the time interval between that pulse and the previous one in time ti-1 is equal to the transducer sensitivity multiplied by the average value of the measured interval between time instances ti-1 and ti (Fig. 1). From equation (6), (8) or (11) one calculates the instances of appearing the output pulses from the generator. The paper shows feasibility of the method in the form of a virtual instrument (computer equipped with acquisition module and time-counter element) and a microprocessor unit (Fig. 3). In Section 4 the impact of the quantization error on the accuracy is discussed. The experimental results (Fig. 4) confirmed that this error had the greatest impact on the accuracy of determining time between the pulses. The presented method can be used for simulations of transducers with frequency output during tests of measurement systems.

In measurement engineering, while processing any quantities into digital form, frequency-modulated impulse signals are often used as intermediate signals. During actuation or monitoring of measurement systems with such sensors it is necessary to have an impulse signal correspondent with the signal from the converter during normal operation. That is why there are being developed the methods which allow generating an impulse signal correspondent to the signal from the converter, when taking into account the changes of the measured quantity in accordance with the adopted characteristics. The paper presents a comparison of the methods for simulating the output impulse signal proposed by the authors, on the example of a voltage-to-frequency U/F converter. The first analyzed method, described in Section 2, is based on a physical model of the converter, while the second, presented in Section 3, is based on its mathematical equation. In spite of the difference of approaches, very similar results were obtained - they are given in Section 4. The advantage of the first method is the acquisition of results encumbered with quantization errors of the distribution precisely the same as in an actual measurement system (Fig. 2). The second method allows acquiring more precise results, which reflect the actual location of subsequent impulses. However, they are not related to any specific technical implementation of the measurement system. The selection of the method depends on the purpose of the simulation of the frequency signal, e.g. researching quantization errors, testing algorithms of increasing the effective resolution of the measurement chain or testing the characteristics of the algorithms of digital processing of frequency signals.

Opis:
Mobile heavy machines as unsprung vehicles exhibit low dissipation ability, hence the ride even at low speeds may give rise to intensive vibration. Particularly dangerous situations occur when the road wheels break away from the road surface due to the ’galloping’ effect, being the result of excited vertical and angular vibration of the machine frame in the vertical plane of symmetry. That implies a major restriction on the ride velocity, which negatively impacts on the machine performance. Vibrations thus produced are mostly in the low-frequency range and hence energy dissipation in tyres will reduce the vibration intensity in a minor degree only. The motion of tired wheels will always involve some slipping. While investigating the feasibility of increasing the efficiency of the vibration reduction systems, one ought to take into account the variable adhesion of road wheels due to different dynamic loading acting on the vehicle axles during the ride. Observations of unsprung machines during the ride suggest the occurrence of self-excited vibration. Mobile machines constitute dynamic systems, which can be governed by nonlinear, sometimes non-stationary differential equations of motion. Their stability also depends on intensity of external vibrations. This study investigates the motion of unsprung mobile machines, taking into account the dynamic processes in the driving system under the conditions of the variable adhesion of road wheels. The model of interaction between a tired wheel and the terrain takes into account the relationship between the road wheel adhesion factor and the slipping action. Mathcad supported by Matlab-Simulink and in the frequency domain – simulations in the time domain. The purpose of the simulation procedure was to find the causes of the vibration modulation frequency and determine the conditions triggering the occurrence of self-excited vibrations. Simulations are supported by the analysis of motion stability.

Opis:
The diagnostic method FDM-A [2], based on the measurement of the pulsation component frequency modulation, and the FAM-C method, making use of the alternating current frequency, were developed in the Air Force Institute of Technology. The essence of their accuracy consists in “natural” synchronisation of the sampling signal with the angular velocity of the observed kinematic links. These methods make it possible to determine the level of wear of a subsystem and its location during normal operation of the power unit. They provide opportunities for determining numerous parameters of bearings, bearing structures, and the rotor unit. Moreover, the FDM-A method makes it possible to detect resonances in particular elements and their parameters - among others, they provide opportunities for assessing the level of the mechanic quality factor of the examined structure, i.e. the time margin of structure operation until the structure reaches the state of resonance. On the other hand, the FAM-C method provides opportunities for defining numerous parameters of the phenomena connected with the rotor unit. The diagnostic system is connected to an arbitrary point of the electric network (electric junction, for instance) supplied with the direct voltage1 or the alternating voltage2 taken from the generators driven by the examined rotating system. The presented experimental material was recorded in operating investigations of the aircraft turbine engine unit, in which the role of “generators – observers” was played by: an aircraft DC generator and a threephase AC rate generator. Generators of this type are also used in rocket cutters with turbine engines, this way the conclusions presented in the article can be easily transferred to those objects. During the measurements, performed on the decks of the examined airplanes and on engine test beds, the ranges and locations of assembly and wear defects were determined. Successive stages of wear of the rolling bearings were also observed.
