    This paper has an ambitious aim: to predict the future of the Church. How can anyone undertake such an enterprise since the one thing we know for certain about history is omnia aliter, that is, everything will be different than we once imagined. However, such a project is not as unfeasible as it seems. In the footsteps of literary critics, economists, historians, political scientists, philosophers, and theologians, we sketch some of the most likely shifts in the light of already-observable trends using the finest hermeneutics available. First, we interpret the most significant global trend today: secularization (sections 1). Second, we present and evaluate current models for the future of the Church, paying particular attention to the Magisterium of Pope Francis (sections 2). Finally, we predict likely developments in the area of spirituality (sections 3). In setting out to write academically about futuristic topics, we are aware that one looks to the future not so much to predict it accurately, as to shape it.
    Niniejsze opracowanie ma ambitny cel: przewidzieć przyszłość Kościoła. Jak ktoś może podjąć się takiego przedsięwzięcia? Ponieważ jedyną rzeczą, którą wiemy na pewno o historii, jest omnia aliter: wszystko będzie inne, niż sobie wyobrażaliśmy. Jednak takie przedsięwzięcie nie jest tak niemożliwe, jak się wydaje. Podążając śladami krytyków literackich, ekonomistów, historyków, politologów, filozofów i teologów, szkicujemy niektóre z najbardziej prawdopodobnych zmian w świetle już zaobserwowanych tendencji, posługując się najlepszą dostępną hermeneutyką. Po pierwsze, interpretujemy najważniejszy obecnie trend globalny: sekularyzację (rozdział 1). Po drugie, przedstawiamy i oceniamy aktualne modele przyszłości Kościoła, zwracając szczególną uwagę na Magisterium papieża Franciszka (część 2). Wreszcie, przewidujemy prawdopodobny rozwój wydarzeń w dziedzinie duchowości (część 3). Starając się pisać naukowo o tematach futurystycznych, mamy świadomość, że w przyszłość patrzy się nie tyle po to, by ją dokładnie przewidzieć, ile po to, by ją kształtować.

    Opis:
    In the field of science and journalism an American theologian and bishop John R. Quinn asked about the nature of the Church and the perspectives for ecclesiology development. The article is a presentation of his approach to the issue of collegiality and an attempt at collating this idea with some other contemporary approaches. With reference to theological and historical strands, I presented the relationship between the model of the Church and the nature of the Holy Trinity as well as ecclesiastical consequences of the selected moments from the first centuries of Christianity. As far as perspectives for the future are concerned, the creation of cultural patriarchates is suggested, which would allow for decentralization and lead to greater sensitivity of the Church and her teaching to local contexts.

    Metaeklezjologia to pojęcie analogiczne do terminu „metateologia” oznaczające metateoretyczną charakterystykę eklezjologii. Metaeklezjologia – tak jak metateologia – może być zewnętrzna lub wewnętrzna. Niniejszy artykuł jest próbą budowania wewnętrznej metaeklezjologii katolickiej odwołującej się do dorobku lubelskich metodologów nauki (A. Bronk, S. Majdański, S. Kamiński), lubelskich metodologów teologii (Cz.S. Bartnik, M. Rusecki) i innych metodologów teologii (A. Dulles, B. Mondin, A. Kolping, H. Seweryniak, A.A. Napiórkowski). Niniejszy artykuł obejmuje następujące zagadnienia: nowe elementy w problematyce eklezjologicznej, rodzaje eklezjologii i nurty eklezjologiczne, modele Kościoła (instytucjonalny, mistycznej komunii, sakramentalny, kerygmatyczny, sługi, wspólnoty uczniów, znaku sprzeciwu). W zakończeniu znajduje się kilka ogólnych wniosków o stanie współczesnej eklezjologii katolickiej.
    Meta-Theology denotes a meta-theoretical description of Theology. Similarly, meta-Ecclesiology means a meta-theoretical description of Ecclesiology, and it encompasses all problems of meta-theological nature. Meta-Ecclesiology – like Meta-Theology – might be external or internal. This paper represents an internal Meta-(Catholic) Ecclesiology. It touches on some new issues in the area of Ecclesiology, types of Ecclesiology, trends in Ecclesiology, and models of the Church according to Cardinal Avery Dulles (the Church as Institution, Mystical Communion, Sacrament, Herald, Servant, Community of Disciples, and Sign of Opposition). Multiplicity and diversity of ecclesiological types and trends show a richness and complexity of Ecclesiology. Consequently, one holistic (total) Ecclesiology is impossible at present. Hence, a project of an integral Ecclesiology is feasible but only as (a very useful) way of uniting the results of Ecclesiology – uniting them on a base of main ecclesiological issues or problems faced by Ecclesiology. According to Rev. M. Rusecki (1942-2012) theology today is very much fragmented and it is quite impossible to make it integrated (see: M. Rusecki, Problematyka metody w teologii, in: Tożsamość teologii, ed. A. Anderwald, T. Dola, M. Rusecki, Opole: Wydział Teologiczny Uniwersytetu Opolskiego 2010, pp. 44-47, 54-64. Rusecki presents Adolf Kolping’s idea of integrated theology – pp. 55-56). New theological disciplines and sub-disciplines arise and theologians’ specializations are becoming increasingly fragmented. They are to a lesser extent familiar with the work of their colleagues (native or foreign) and likewise with the history of Theology. The same holds true for Ecclesiology and ecclesiologists. Today in Theology (and in Ecclesiology) there are processes typical of contemporary sciences which are unstoppable. Despite negative consequences, there are some positive, too. Being so, Theology and Ecclesiology show their vitality and necessity. Theologians in their academic work explore new ways of research (including interdisciplinary ones) and have more scholar freedom than they used to, which develops their creativity.

    W niniejszym artykule, na podstawie eklezjologicznej myśli kard. Avery'ego Dullesa, podjęto zagadnienie wiarygodności Kościoła w aspekcie jego działalności misyjnej. Po stwierdzeniu, że związek misji z wiarygodnością Kościoła polega na realizacji jego misyjnej natury i wypełnianiu jego katolickości w wymiarze przestrzennym, autor artykułu przedstawia wyróżnione przez Dullesa modele Kościoła jako kryteria weryfikujące realizację misyjnej działalności Kościoła. Dominujący od Soboru Trydenckiego do Soboru Watykańskiego II instytucjonalny model Kościoła, a także model głosiciela zostały uznane za niewystarczające dla rozwijania misji w wymiarze pełnej przestrzennej katolickości. Artykuł ukazuje kontekst kryzysu działalności misyjnej w XX wieku oraz jego przyczyny społeczno-kulturowe i teologiczne, a następnie wskazuje na eklezjologię Vaticanum II i pozostałe wyróżnione przez Dullesa modele Kościoła: sakramentalny, communio i sługi, jako odpowiedź na kryzys misji, możliwość szerszej realizacji katolickości Kościoła i jego misyjnej natury, a także punkt wyjścia dla nowego podejścia do religii i prowadzenia działalności misyjnej. Artykuł wskazuje również na obecne w dokumentach soborowych motywacje dla działalności misyjnej oraz otwarte przez Sobór nowe perspektywy dla misji. Zwraca też uwagę na znaczenie inkulturacji, która w kontekście misji została uznana za niewystarczającą, a także na możliwości prowadzenia misyjnej działalności w perspektywie ujęcia Kościołów misyjnych jako Kościołów lokalnych, związków misji z życiem społecznym oraz pogłębionego rozumienia nawrócenia i dialogu z religiami.
    This article is based on Avery Cardinal Dulles' ecclesiological thought, and shows the problem of relationship between credibility of the Church and its missionary activity. After finding that relationship between mission and credibility of the Church lies on the realization of its missionary nature and fulfilling its catholicity in the spatial dimension, author of this paper presents Dulles' models of the Church as criteria for verifying implementation of the missionary activity of the Church. Institutional model of the Church, which has been dominating from Council of Trent to Vatican II, and herald model were deemed insufficient for fully realizing missions in spatial dimension of catholicity of the Church. The article presents also context of the crisis of missionary activity in the twentieth century and two groups of its causes (sociocultural and theological), and then points to the ecclesiology of Vaticanum II and another Dulles' models of the Church: sacramental, communio and servant, as a response to the mission crisis, and the possibility of a wider implementation of the catholicity of the Church and its missionary nature, as well as the starting point for a new approach to religion and missionary activities. The article also points to the present in the conciliar documents motivation and new perspectives for missionary activity, and draws attention to the importance of inculturation, which in the context of the mission was deemed insufficient, and also to the possibility of conducting missionary activities in the perspective of understanding the missionary Churches as local Churches, the relationship between missions and social life, and a deeper understanding of conversion and interreligious dialogue.

    The article presents a characteristic of defined ecclesiological models and it subjects to analysis their possible influence on some methodological questions in social moral theology, especially on the issue of the relation between the Church and the world. The dynamic changes within the Catholic ecclesiology during the recent century have resulted, inter alia, in working out several models of the relation between the Church and the world, sometimes ones excluding each other. The most important ones include models conventionally defined as theories of incarnationism (indirect participation), polarization (correlation), secularization (exclusivism), integral participation, critical participation, inglobalization (global absorption) and some trends of eschatologism. Analysis of the most important aspects of these theories or trends allows a better comprehension of the great vitality and significance of the problem of relation to the world in the life of the whole Church, having also controversial elements and ones that may give rise to misunderstandings.
