W artykule zostały zaprezentowane badania związane z zastosowaniem regulatora MPC (Model Predictive Control) do sterowania procesem suszenia konwekcyjnego. Związek pomiędzy natężeniem wypływu materiału suszonego a wilgotnością zboża i innymi mierzonymi parametrami jest określony za pomocą hybrydowego modelu składającego się z równania różniczkowego cząstkowego i sieci neuronowej. Sieć neuronowa zapewnia uwzględnienie nieliniowości związanych z dynamiką procesu suszenia. Wagi sieci estymowane są w czasie rzeczywistym przy użyciu algorytmu rozszerzonego filtru Kalmana. Pozwala to na samoczynne adaptowanie się modelu do zmieniających się warunków procesu oraz rodzaju suszonego materiału.
The article presents studies on the application of the MPC (Model Predictive Control) controller to operate convection drying process. The relationship between outflow rate of dried material and corn moisture content and other measured parameters is determined using a hybrid model consisting of partial differential equation and a neural network. The neural network ensures taking into consideration nonlinearities connected with drying process dynamics. Network weights are estimated in real time using extended algorithm of the Kalman filter. This allows the model to adapt automatically to changing process conditions and dried material type.

Opis:
Ship navigation safety in restricted water areas is of great concern to crew members, because ships sailing in close proximity to banks are significantly affected by the so-called ship-bank interaction. The purpose of this paper is to apply the optimal control theory to help helmsmen adjust ships’ course and maintain the target course in restricted waters. To achieve this objective, the motion of a very large crude carrier (VLCC) close to a bank is modeled with the linear equations of manoeuvring and the influence of bank effect on the ship hydrodynamic force is considered in the model. State-space framework is cast in a Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) system, where the offset-free model predictive control (MPC) is designed for course following and the linear quadratic regulator (LQR) is used for course keeping. Simulation results show that the control methods effectively work in ship course following and course keeping with varying ship-bank distances and water depths. The advantage of adopting speed variation as the second control input is obvious.

Opis:
One of the main problems of multivariable cost functions in model predictive control is the choice of weighting factors. Two finite control set model predictive control algorithms, applied to the three-phase active rectifier with an LCL filter, are described in the paper. The investigated algorithms, i.e. PCicuc and PCigicuc, implement multivariable approaches applying line (grid) current, capacitor voltage and converter current. The main problem dealt with in the paper is the choice of optimum values of the cost function weighting factors. The values of the factors calculated using the method proposed in the paper are very close to the values represented by the lowest THDi of the line current. Moreover, simulations verifying the equations used in the prediction of controlled values, i.e. line current, capacitor voltage and converter current, are presented. Both simulation and experimental results are presented to verify effectiveness of the investigated control strategies under change of the load (P = 5 kW and 2.5 kW), during transient states, under unbalanced and balanced line voltage.

W artykule zaprezentowano wyniki badań dotyczących sterowania predykcyjnego ciśnieniem w sieci wodociągowej o wielu zasilaniach. Przedmiotem sterowania była optymalizacja parametrów pracy sieci, mająca na celu obniżenie ciśnienia w porze nocnej, w miejscach sieci, gdzie ze względu na ich położenie ponad poziomem morza występuje maksymalne ciśnienie, przy jednoczesnym zapewnieniu minimalnego wymaganego ciśnienia w pozostałych punktach sieci. Rezultat ten uzyskano przez manipulowanie ciśnieniami na zasilaniach, które daje pożądany przebieg linii ciśnień dla danej strefy. W budowie regulatora zastosowano algorytm Generalized Predictive Control (GPC), w którym model obiektu sterowanego zidentyfikowano w oparciu o dane otrzymane w wyniku eksperymentu numerycznego. Sprawdzenie poprawności rozwiązania przeprowadzono w środowisku Matlab® korzystając z przybornika Model Predictive Control™. Weryfikację działania metody oparto o dane i strukturę obiektu zidentyfikowane w ramach projektu prowadzonego we współpracy z PWiK Rybnik Sp. z. o. o. Otrzymane wyniki potwierdzają poprawność działania metody dla tak postawionego problemu eksploatacji sieci wodociągowych.
The paper presents results of research on predictive control of a water distribution network with multiple supplies. The object of study was optimization of work parameters of a water distribution network in order to decrease the level of pressure at night for the places with the highest pressure values. This was achieved by manipulating the supply pressures to obtain the desired level of the pressure lines for a given area. The considered water distribution networks are shown in Figs. 1 and 2, whereas description of the network characteristic points is given in Tab. 1. The detailed discussion of selected water networks is contained in [1, 2, 3]. The authors made a deep literature review [4] and, as a result, selected the Generalized Predictive Control algorithm (see Fig. 4) as a framework for the predictive control. The schema of the predictive control for an exemplary water distribution network is shown in Fig. 5. The con-trolled plant was identified from a numerical experiment made on a network simulation model. An exemplary result of model identification is shown in Fig. 3. The solution was verified in the Matlab® environment with use of the Model Predictive Control™ toolbox. The results shown in Figs. 6-10 confirm that the method is a proper solution to this water distribution network maintenance problem. Implementation of the predictive control in a real water distribution network needs some costs to be incurred. However, it is expected that the costs will be returned soon, thanks to significant decrease in the number of malfunctions in the network caused by excessive hydraulic loads of the water network elements. In addition, it is possible to use the predictive control as a solution to the problem of undetected leakages whose level may be reduced with this method of control.

The article has presented a predictive output voltage regulator of a three-phase two-level voltage inverter with an LC filter with a prediction of the receiver current in the time domain and the frequency domain. Simulations of the operation of the regulator were conducted for a three-phase receiver. The circuit model and simulations of the operation of the predictive voltage regulator were performed in the PSIM program. The algorithm of the predictive regulator was written in the C programming language in the Microsoft Visual Studio compiler and attached to the model performed in the PSIM program by a block that supports the Dynamic-Link Library.

Opis:
The model predictive current control (MPCC) of the permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) is highly dependent on motor parameters, and a parameter mismatch will cause the system performance degradation. Therefore, a strategy based on an internal model control (IMC) observer is proposed to correct the mismatch parameters. Firstly, based on the MPCC strategy of the PMSM, according to the dynamic model of the PMSM in a rotating orthogonal coordinate system, -axis and -axis current IMC observers are designed, and the stability derivation is carried out. It is proved that the observer can estimate -axis and -axis disturbance components caused by a parameter mismatch without static error. Then, the estimated disturbance component is compensated for by the reference voltage prediction expression. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed strategy is verified in two different conditions. The experimental results show that the proposed control strategy can effectively compensate for the parameter mismatch disturbance in MPCC for PMSM, improve the dynamic and static performance of the system, and improve the robustness of the system. voltage prediction expression. The paper presents one of the modern control methods used for steering of the ship motion. The different automatic systems used to navigate the vessels are described at the beginning. Next, prediction control methodology is presented and multidimensional MPC regulator applied to steering of the training ship is shown as a technical product. Tests results from the real-time experiments with the mentioned controller are presented at the end of the article.

The paper considers optimizing Model Predictive Control (MPC) for nonlinear plants with output constraints under uncertainties. Although the MPC technology can handle the constraints in the model by solving constraint model based optimization task, satisfying the plant output constraints under the model uncertainty still remains a challenge. The paper proposes Robustly Feasible MPC (RFMPC), which achieves feasibility of the outputs in the controlled plant. The RFMPC which is applied to control quantity in Drinking Water Distribution Systems (DWDS) is illustrated by application to the DWDS example. In the simulation exercise, Genetic Algorithm is selected as the optimization solver and the reduced search space methodology is applied in the implementation under MATLABEPANET environment.

Opis:
Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS) perfectly fit into the future vision of merchant fleet. MASS autonomous navigation system combines automatic trajectory tracking and supervisor safe trajectory generation subsystems. Automatic trajectory tracking method, using line-of-sight (LOS) reference course generation algorithm, is combined with model predictive control (MPC). Algorithm for MASS trajectory tracking, including cooperation with the dynamic system of safe trajectory generation is described. It allows for better ship control with steady state cross-track error limitation to the ship hull breadth and limited overshoot after turns. In real MASS ships path is defined as set of straight line segments, so transition between trajectory sections when passing waypoint is unavoidable. In the proposed control algorithm LOS trajectory reference course is mapped to the rotational speed reference value, which is dynamically constrained in MPC controller due to dynamically changing reference trajectory in real MASS system. Also maneuver path advance dependent on the path tangential angle difference, to ensure trajectory tracking for turns from 0 to 90 degrees, without overshoot is used. All results were obtained with the use of training ship in real–time conditions.

The main goal of this paper is to present a five-level converter with the feature of output voltage boosting capability. Thanks to its modular construction and single DC source usage, 5LCHB converter becomes an important alternative for two-level converters operating with DC-DC converters that use bulky inductors. Furthermore, model predictive control (MPC) method is presented, which allows for boosting output voltage of presented converter while providing three-phase load current control and flying capacitor voltage stabilization. The last section describes a 5kVA laboratory model of five-level hybrid converter interfacing RL load and shows experimental results confirming theoretical analysis derived in previous sections.

This paper presents a multilevel cascaded H-bridge 5-level converter with boosting capability. The standard solution for boosting voltage in power electronic devices is based on a DC-DC converter with a bulky inductor. However, inductor is a problematic component of a power electronic converter because usually it has to be individually designed and produced for every device and also because its size and weight do not allow for compact construction. This paper presents model predictive control (MPC) method that gives boosting capability for the presented converter. A novel contribution of this paper is the development of a predictive model of the converter and cost function enabling output current control and capacitor voltage balancing.

The procedure of Linear Incremental Model (LIM) identification requires input and output signal deviations as opposed to their actual values. When considering a vessel as a plant, the sequence of input signals determines the traceability of the estimated LIM. The manual input signals selection procedure is a demanding and time consuming empirical procedure. In order to increase the speed of object identification and to eliminate input-output signal sequences which give unreliable data, an incremental linear model identification algorithm was developed and is presented. Moreover, the method of parameter selection for input signal pseudo-random sequences is described in this paper. Emphasis is placed on the practical aspect of astatic objects – ship’s LIM creation and input-output signal deviations selection method.

Opis:
Sterowniki programowalne PLC (ang. Programmable Logic Controllers) są główną przemysłową platformą implementacji algorytmów sterowania bezpośredniego. Standardowo producenci PLC udostępniają programistom jedynie podstawowe algorytmy sterowania. W niniejszym artykule rozważana jest implementacja w PLC zaawansowanej metody sterowania - algorytmu MAC/MPC (ang. Model Algorithmic Control/Model Predictive Control) ze względu na jego walory użytkowe oraz stosunkowo złożony proces implementacji. Regulacja MPC może być implementowana również w warstwie nadrzędnej hierarchicznego modelu systemu sterowania, dlatego prezentowany jest cały model. W artykule opisano proces weryfikacji regulatora MPC zaimplementowanego w PLC w warunkach pętli sprzętowej. Badane są czasy wykonania jednej iteracji regulatora oraz wymagania wobec wielkości pamięci PLC dla konkretnych parametrów regulatora, co może być wykorzystane do szacowania stosowalności na innych platformach i przydatności do sterowania konkretnymi obiektami. Właściwości regulatorów MPC są niedostępne dla klasycznych regulatorów (klasy PID wraz z modyfikacjami i rozwinięciami), zatem implementacja regulacji MPC w PLC istotnie rozwija możliwości sterowania na tej platformie.
PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) are the main industrial platform for the implementation of control algorithms. PLC manufacturers provide for programmers only basic control algorithms. With the development of PLC and their successors (Programmable Automation Controller - PAC) appeared increased CPU and memory capabilities of the equipment and fuller implementation of programming languages defined in the standard IEC-61131-3. PLCs and PACs now have the computing power and memory of the personal computer PC a few years ago, they can also be programmed in high level languages using matrix operations. Currently, PLC and PAC allow implementation of almost any discrete control algorithm. In this article it is considered the implementation of advanced control method - the algorithm MAC/MPC (Model Algorithmic Control/Model Predictive Control) due to its usability and for the presentation of the implementation process. MPC can be implemented also in the supervisory layer of hierarchical model of the control system, so the whole model is presented. Verification process of implemented MPC controller in the PLC with hardware-in-a-loop structure is presented. Results of cycle durations and memory requirements tests can be used to estimate the applicability of MPC controller on other platforms and for particular objects. Properties of MPC controllers are not available for the classic PLC controllers (PID class with modifications and expansions), therefore, the implementation of MPC in the PLC significantly expands the control capabilities of this platform.
