Opis:: In this paper we present some fuzzy modal operators and show their two possible applications. These operators are fuzzy generalizations of modal operators well-known in modal logics. We present an application of some compositions of these operators in approximations of fuzzy sets. In particular, it is shown how skills of candidates can be matched for selecting research projects. The underlying idea is based on the observation that fuzzy sets approximations can be viewed as intuitionistic fuzzy sets introduced by Atanassov. Distances between intuitionistic fuzzy sets, proposed by Szmidt and Kacprzyk, support the reasoning process. Also, we point out how modal operators are useful for representing linguistic hedges, that is terms like “very”, “definitely”, “rather”, or “more or less”.

Opis:: The paper appreciates six conditions which, according to G.E. Hughes and M.J. Cresswell, must be respected by those formal systems which aspire to be systems of modal logic. There are few such systems. The sense of modal functors “it is necessary that,” “it is possible that,” in this type of systems is in no way made precise. The paper undermines the validity of some conditions shown by Hughes and Cresswell. It outlines the way by which to construct a system of modal logic in which the functor of logical necessity and logical possibility would be unambiguously characterised by methods of contemporary logic.

Opis:: Sentences with the form: x is δ y, where δ is one of the modal operators (of the n/n category) is usually interpreted as rendering modalities of the de re type, as contrary to sentences included in the scheme: ΔP(x), where the modal operator Δ (of the s/s category) is semantically ambiguous (de re or de dicto). In literature treating modality as de dicto modality dominates. This results mainly from the fact that modal calculi are practiced mainly as sentential calculi, built over the classical sentential calculus, where – in the nature of things – the structure of sentences is not analyzed. We also have some extensions of elementary ontology (Lebedev’s) with the modal operator of the is-δ (s/nn) type as the primary operator. In the article a construction is suggested, in which an operator of the δ (n/n) type is the primitive term. It is an elementary modal ontology that is an inferential extension of one of the mentioned systems, despite a formal simplification of its axioms.
