Experiments on combustion of lean mixtures in the vicinity of flammability limit have acquired importance from the viewpoint of development of new kinds of combustion system with low fuel consumption and low emissions. It is well known that the combustion characteristics near the lean limit are instability and low heat release rate. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the combustion behaviour by using several techniques. Experiments have been carried out to examine the influence of combination flow and mixture injection on flame behaviour and flame propagation speed for lean premixed propane-air mixtures in a combustion tube. The mail conclusions are as follows: 1) The Average flame speed with the swirl flow is remarkably increased as compared with the case of laminar flow. 2) The Average flame speed by using the combination flow is bigger than that of the swirl flow. 3) By changing the combination flow intensity, it is possible to control the flame speed. 4) The flame speed by using injection of premixed mixture to flame front is higher than that of laminar flame speed without the mixture injection. 5) The most suitable conditions exit for combustion improvement near the flammability limit by using the mixture injection.

Opis:
This paper presents the HiFORS continuously rate shaping injector for injection pressures of 2500 bar and above developed by FEVGmbH and the Institute for Combustion Engines, RWTH Aachen University. The development process from concept definition to hydraulic and deisgn layout, material choice and manufacturing is discussed. The hydraulic operating properties are verified by injection test rig investigations. Optical investigations are conducted in an optically accessible high pressure, high temperature chamber using shadowgraphy and OH chemoluminescence detection, thereby capturing both liquid and gaseous penetration as well as combustion areas. Single cylinder investigations are carried out at a 0.4 dm3 research engine in different operating points from low part load to full load. Compared to a serial production piezo injector, base measurements using conventional square injection profiles already show reduced combustion noise at improved NOx-soot trade-off as well as lowered HC and CO emissions. Detailed investigations at part load operating points explore the potential of different continuous rate shaping patterns, while the injector’s high injection pressure capability of up to 2500 bar and its influence on engine performance is tested at full load operation points.

In this paper there has been described the structure of ZI gasoline direct injection engines in which there has been applied spray guided. There has been shown the burning chambers structure of the engines of that type. There has been also presented the modification range of ZI engines equipped with system of gasoline multipoint indirect injection in order to get the gasoline direct injection engine with spray guided. The authors have described the block diagram of fuel supply system of this type of an engine which is being developed in Cracow University of Technology's Combustion Engine Department. Certain information about mechanical modification of engine is given. They have proposed model of fuel air mixture stratification in a combustion chamber of spray guided engine, in which base homogeneous mixture come into being out of the this chamber. In this paper there has been also designated an influence of an angle of crank shaft on initial velocity of fuel stream and on flow intensity of fuel stream that flows through the injector. There also has been presented an influence of air fuel coefficient of homogeneous base mixture on the angle on a crank shaft of ignition charge.

Opis:
Non supercharged SI engine on LPG with mixture forming by evaporated LPG has lower power by about 8% compared to original petrol engine. This disadvantage can be eliminated by mixture forming by injection of liquid LPG. Report shows the results of the laboratory experimental research on an engine with injection of liquid LPG with the detailed analyses of the energy, power and emission engine parameters in 2 variations of the engine set-up. The thermodynamic analysis of the indicator diagram has shown that the characteristic parameters of the cycle (incl. Parameters of the combustion course) stand practically identical for operation on petrol and on LPG. The measurements on the engine were also oriented on study of conditions in the inlet manifold after injection of the liquid LPG (injection visualization with fuel vaporization, temperature in the intake port) for an explanation of any abnormality on course of the unburned hydrocarbon concentration before catalyst. The experimental results show that automotive engine with injection of liquid LPG like high-quality variation of the car drive with favorable operating economy and positive ecological effects for environment.

W artykule zaprezentowano szczegółową analizę systemu bezpośredniego wtrysku benzyny FSI (Fuel Stratified Injection) stosowanego w samochodach koncernu Volkswagen Group. W pracy przedstawiono charakterystyczne elementy budowy z opisem ich wpływu na działanie tego typu silnika. Następnie przedstawiono wyniki badań mocy silnika, momentu obrotowego, emisji zanieczyszczeń oraz zużycia paliwa, przeprowadzonych na modelu VW Passat 2.0 FSI oraz porównano z wynikami badań odpowiednika o wtrysku pośrednim - VW Passat 2.0 MPI.
In this article is presented a detailed analysis of FSI (Fuel stratified injection) gasoline direct injection system used in the Volkswagen Group cars. In the paper are also presented characteristic elements of the construction with a description of their impact on the operation such a type of engine. Next are presented results of research like engine power, torque, exhaust emissions and fuel consumption, carried out on the VW Passat 2.0 FSI and compared with test results in the indirect injection equivalent - VW Passat 2.0 MPI.

Opis:
The article presents the structure and a principle of operation of a simple indicator of the type of a fuel-air mixture supplying a spark-ignition engine with a direct fuel injection. The designed indicator was tested, as a result of which its correct operation was verified. By using information from the indicator, it was possible to assess its usefulness for assisting the driver in an economical driving style. Preliminary studies show that thanks to the use of the developed indicator, it is possible to save about 10% of fuel as a result of the correction of the economic driving style on the route selected for the purpose of this research paper. The target of this study was to confirm a noticeable reduction in fuel consumption when supplying the engine with a stratified mixture. In order to obtain more accurate data, the research should be extended to include a greater number of routes and its division into urban and non-urban areas.

The paper offers a comparison between signals produced by a lambda sensor and ionization sensor to estimate air-fuel mixture composition in the fuel injection control process in an SI engine. The method of measurement is described and characteristics of the ionization signal in the conducted experimental tests are given. The paper also presents a numerical model of the internal combustion engine that was designed and then used in the simulations to examine the usefulness of ionization signal for estimating air fuel mixture composition. The conducted tests demonstrated the advantage of the controller using the ionization measurement in the combustion chamber over the controller using signals produced by a classic lambda sensor.
W artykule zawarto porównanie sygnałów z sondy lambda oraz czujnika jonizacji do szacowania składu mieszanki w procesie sterowania wtryskiem benzyny w silniku o zapłonie iskrowym. Opisano sposób pomiaru i charakterystykę sygnału jonizacji w przeprowadzonych badaniach doświadczalnych. Przedstawiono stworzony model matematyczny silnika spalinowego, którego użyto do przeprowadzenia badań symulacyjnych, testujących użyteczność sygnału jonizacji do szacowania składu mieszanki paliwowopowietrznej. Wykazano przewagę regulatora wykorzystującego pomiar jonizacji w komorze spalania w porównaniu z regulatorem korzystającym z sygnału klasycznej sondy lambda.

The results of studies on the use of modern two cored wires injection method for production of nodular graphite cast iron with use of unique implementation of drum ladle as a treatment/transport and casting ladle instead vertical treatment ladle was described. The injection of length of [...] 9mm wires, cored: in FeSi + Mg nodulariser mixture and inoculant master alloy is a treatment method which can be used to produce iron melted in coreless induction furnace. This paper describes the results of using this method for possibility production of ductile iron under specific industrial conditions. In this case was taken ductile iron with material designation: EN-GJS-450-10 Grade according PN-EN 1563:2000. Microstructure of 28 trials was controlled on internally used sample which has been correlated with standard sample before. The paper presents typical metallic matrix and graphite characteristic. Additionally, mechanical properties were checked in one experiment. Because of further possibility treatment temperature reduction only the rough magnesium recovery and cost of this new method are given.

It means, that length of nodulariser wire plus treatment and pouring temperatures were optimized. In this case, was taken ductile iron with material designation: EN-GJS-SiMo40-6 Grade according EN 16124:2010 E. Microstructure of great number of trials was controlled on internally used sample which has been correlated with standard sample before. The paper presents typical ferritic metallic matrix and nodular graphite. Additionally, mechanical properties were checked in some experiments. Mean values of magnesium recovery and cost of this new method from optimized process parameters were calculated as well.
