Opis:
Aim. The aim of the research is to explore the functionality of the Open Education Model of religious education for the “form[ation of] an internal moral compass,” as Steven Hitlin and Jane Allyn Piliavin (2004) describe the modern understanding of values. In other words, the author will attempt to explore first what the model has to offer in terms of equipping students with the necessary skills so that they will successfully navigate through the conflict of values, and second the potential application and limitations of the model. Methods. The exploration is based on a 2014 production by Pure Flix Entertainment, the first movie in the God’s not Dead series. The author will consider two educational cases presented in the movie using a close reading method. Results. The study seems to prove that that the God’s not Dead movie accurately portrays the conflict of values experienced by young adults in present-day America. It also appears to consistently promote the Open Education Model as a type of religious education that provides considerable assistance to the learners in retaining their beliefs in the world of mixed values, especially in the time of crisis. The model appears to lend sound conceptual framework missing in other models, but its full application is time and effort consuming and fails to provide more comprehensive approach to religious diversity. Conclusion. The Open Education Method of religious instruction in the environment dominated by a multicultural approach, seems to offer valuable concepts that may facilitate educational process proposed by other models and thus deserves more thorough consideration in academic research.

Opis:
The paper deals with construction of exact confidence intervals for the variance component σ₁² and ratio θ of variance components σ₁² and σ² in mixed linear models for the family of normal distributions $_t(0, σ₁²W + σ²I_t)$. This problem essentially depends on algebraic structure of the covariance matrix W (see Gnot and Michalski, 1994, Michalski and Zmyślony, 1996). In the paper we give two classes of bayesian interval estimators depending on a prior distribution on (σ₁², σ²) for:
1) the variance components ratio θ - built by using test statistics obtained from the decomposition of a quadratic form y'Ay for the Bayes locally best estimator of σ₁², Michalski and Zmyślony (1996),
2) the variance component σ₁² - constructed using Bayes point estimators from BIQUE class (Best Invariant Quadratic Unbiased Estimators, see Gnot and Kleffe, 1983, and Michalski, 2003).
In the paper an idea of construction of confidence intervals using generalized p-values is also presented (Tsui and Weerahandi, 1989, Zhou and Mathew, 1994). Theoretical results for Bayes interval estimators and for some generalized confidence intervals by simulations studies for some experimental layouts are illustrated and compared (cf Arendacká, 2005).

Opis:
This paper analyzes the meanings attributed to work in contemporary Polish society in the context of Inglehart and Welzel’s claim regarding the passage from survival to self-expression values. Research has documented a systematic decline in the position of work on the list of the most important values. However, work is also documented as being of fundamental importance for identity, self-esteem, and the delimitation of social categories. The authors offer a mixed-methods approach to the issue of work. Based on quantitative data gathered through the EVS, they place Poland in the context of European trends pertaining to the significance and centrality of work. Using qualitative evidence, the authors identify and reconstruct the key social representations employed to think about and discuss work-related issues. In conclusion, they point to structural elements of the social imaginary of work that result in the coexistence of different (often contradictory) perceptions of this sphere of social life.

Opis:
According to the founding treaties, the European Union is based on the recognition of certain values: freedom, democracy, pluralism, diversity, and equality between women and men. Although existing data indicate that Polish society is generally supportive of the EU, recent discussions about Polexit and axiological conflicts within Polish society suggest that these values do not enjoy universal and unconditional support. We employed a mixed methods approach to analyze the attitudes of Poles towards the EU. Using quantitative methods, we identified key aspects of a radical Catholic-nationalistic orientation. Based on a qualitative investigation, we established that those with a radical axiological orientation who reject European values do not proclaim anti-Europeanism openly. An analysis of data from far-right actors’ social media provides a more precise understanding of the meanings and emotions associated with Europe and the European Union within radical Catholic-nationalist narratives. The most prominent feature of these narratives is the emphasis on the alleged “moral decline” of older European societies, along with the postulation of alternative forms of European integration that move away from cultural integration.
