Opis:
Circuits operating in the subthreshold region are synonymous to low energy operation. However, the penalty in performance is colossal. In this paper, we investigate how designing in moderate inversion region recuperates some of that lost performance, while remaining very near to the minimum energy point. An α power based minimum energy delay modeling that is continuous over the weak, moderate, and strong inversion regions is presented. The value of α is obtained through interpolation following EKV model. The effect of supply voltage and device sizing on the minimum energy and performance is determined. The proposed model is utilized to design a temperature to time generator at 32nm technology node as the application of the proposed model. The abstract goes here.

Opis:
In mathematical economics there is a number of so called “turnpike theorems” proved mainly on the basis of multiproduct models of economic dynamics. According to these theorems, all optimal paths of economic growth over a long period of time converge to a certain path (turnpike) in which the economy achieves the highest growth rate while remaining in a specific dynamic (von Neumann) equilibrium. The article refers to this trend and presents some properties of optimal growth processes in the Gale-type model of the stationary economy when the quality criterion of growth processes is not the utility of production-which is normally postulated in the turnpike theory-but the time needed by the economy to achieve the desired final state, e.g. the level of production or production value. According to the author's knowledge, the idea of using time as a criterion for growth in turnpike theory (especially in Gale-type economy) is innovative. It has been proven that changing the growth criterion does not deprive the Gale economy of its asymptotic / turnpike properties.

Opis:
This paper refers to the author's previous work, in which the ‘weak’ turnpike theorem in the stationary Gale economy was proved. This theorem states that each optimal growth process {y*(t)}t*1t=0 that leads the economy in the shortest possible time t*1 from the (initial) state of y0 to the set of target/postulated states Y1 almost always runs in the neighbourhood of the production turnpike, where the economy remains in a specific dynamic equilibrium (peak growth equilibrium). This paper presents a proof of the ‘very strong’ turnpike theorem in the stationary Gale economy, which states that if the optimal process (the solution to the minimaltime growth problem) reaches a turnpike in a certain period of time tˇ < t*1 - 1, then it stays on it everywhere else, except for, at most, final period t*1. The obtained result confirms the wellknown Samuelson hypothesis about the specific turnpike stability of optimal growth paths in multiproduct/multisectoral von Neumann-Leontief-Gale-type models, also in the case where the growth criterion is not the (normally assumed) utility of production but the time needed by the economy to achieve the postulated target level or volume of production.

The paper gives second order sufficient conditions for the strong local optimality of a bang-singular extremal in a minimum time problem. The conditions are given in terms of regularity assumptions on the extremal and of the coercivity of the extended second variation associated to the minimum time problem with fixed end-points on the singular arc. The conditions are close to the necessary ones in the usual sense, namely we require strict inequalities where necessary conditions have mild inequalities.

This paper presents a series of new results on the asymptotic stability of discrete-time fractional difference (FD) state space systems and their finite-memory approximations called finite FD (FFD) and normalized FFD (NFFD) systems. In Part I of the paper, new necessary and sufficient stability conditions have been given in a unified form for FD, FFD and NFFD-based systems. Part II offers a new, simple, ultimate stability criterion for FD-based systems. This gives rise to the introduction of new definitions of the so-called f-poles and f-zeros for FD-based systems, which are used in the closed-loop stability analysis for FD-based systems and, approximately, for FFD/NFFD-based ones.

With reference to the work of Verriest and Lewis (1991) on continuous finite-dimensional systems, the linear quadratic minimum-time problem is considered for discrete distributed systems and discrete distributed time delay systems. We treat the problem in two variants, with fixed and free end points. We consider a cost functional J which includes time, energy and precision terms, and then we investigate the optimal pair (N,u) which minimizes J.

The problem is formulated in optimal control and solved using direct pseudospectral Chebysev's method. The data are taken for the Word Class Glider PW-5 "Smyk". Computed optimum results are compared with glider's trajectories from the Second Domestic Glider Championship 2006, Suwałki, Poland.

The minimum-time running problem is reconsidered. The time of covering a given distance is minimized. The function that should be found is the runner’s velocity that varies with the distance. The Hill-Keller model of motion is employed. It is based on the Newton second law and an equation of power balance. The new element of the current approach is that the trace slope angle varies with the distance. The problem is formulated and solved in optimal control applying the Chebyshev direct pseudospectral method. The essential finding is that the optimal velocity during the cruise is constant regardless of the local slope of the terrain. Such result is valid if the inequality constraints imposed on the propulsive force or the energy are not active.

Opis:
This paper studies recursive optimal filtering as well as robust fault and state estimation for linear stochastic systems with unknown disturbances. It proposes a new recursive optimal filter structure with transformation of the original system. This transformation is based on the singular value decomposition of the direct feedthrough matrix distribution of the fault which is assumed to be of arbitrary rank. The resulting filter is optimal in the sense of the unbiased minimum-variance criteria. Two numerical examples are given in order to illustrate the proposed method, in particular to solve the estimation of the simultaneous actuator and sensor fault problem and to make a comparison with the existing literature results.

Opis:
The study involves the development of multi-objective optimization model for turning machining process. This model was developed using a GA - based weighted-sum of minimum production cost and time criteria of multipass turning machining process subject to relevant technological/practical constraints. The results of the single-objective machining process optimization models for the multipass turning machining process when compared with those of multi-objective machining process model yielded the minimum production cost and minimum production time as $5.775 and 8.320 min respectively (and the corresponding production time and production cost as 12.996 min and $6.992, respectively), while those of the multi-objective machining process optimization model were $5.841and 9.097 min. Thus, the multi-objective machining process optimization model performed better than each of the single-objective model for the two criteria of minimum production cost and minimum production time respectively. The results also show that minimum production time model performs better than the minimum production cost model. For the example considered, the multi-objective model gave a lower production time of 30.0% than the corresponding production time obtained from the minimum production cost model, while it gave a lower production cost of 16.46% than the corresponding cost obtained by the minimum production time model.

Rather surprisingly, it is shown that the continuous-time case can be analyzed and synthesized without the necessity of involving the celebrated (and rather complex) theory of output predictor emulation, so that quite similar, simple solution is obtained like for the well-known discrete-time case.
