Opis:
Primary concentrations of Azara barite deposit in Nassarawa state, Nigeria were conducted; employing simplified gravity concentration techniques. Particle size distribution, specific gravity, physicochemical and morphological analyses of the sample was conducted. These analyses were done in order to establish process efficacy and effectiveness of gravity concentration processes for recovery of barium from the ore deposit, as well as its suitability in various industrial applications, such as the oil and gas sectors. Thus, microstructural, chemical composition and certain physicochemical characteristics/properties of the mineral sample of Azara-Nassarawa barite were determined. XRD, XRF, SEM and EDS analyses were utilized in determining morphology as well as quantitative and qualitative chemical analyses of the sample. Barite sample with average particle size of -355+150μm was subjected to concentration, adopting jigging and tabling gravity separation as the concentration methods. Hitherto, based on quantitative and qualitative chemical analyses conducted, the sample was composed of about 36.2% BaO and 40.5% Ba, respectively; and also possessed an average specific gravity (SG) of about 3.85. Further, the qualitative analysis of the mineral products of jiggling and tabling indicated that jigging had a concentrate recovery of 130.98% Ba with SG increase of 11.2% while tabling had 89.81% Ba recovery with 8.6% SG increase. Assay and SG results confirm gravity concentration efficiency and thus, establish the barite from Azara-Nassarawa ore deposits suitable for certain industrial applications. This will serve as a tool and a step further towards mitigating existing problems or challenges in mineral concentration and processing of such deposits for industrial purposes.

Opis:
W badanych skałach minerały kruszcowe to przede wszystkim tlenki: chromit, spinel Fe-Cr i magnetyt. Wśród siarczków dominują siarczki niklu i żelaza, różniące się między sobą proporcjami tych dwóch pierwiastków. Zidentyfikowane siarczki to: heazlewoodyt (Ni3S2), pentlandyt (Ni,Fe)9S8, milleryt (NiS) i godlewskit (Ni7S6). Pierwotne minerały kruszcowe – chromit, pentlandyt, pirotyn i chalkopiryt w procesie serpentynizacji uległy przemianom, w wyniku czego powstały wtórne minerały kruszczowe – spinel Fe-Cr, cztery generacje magnetytu, siarczki Ni-Fe oraz arsenki niklu.
Ultramafic rocks of the Braszowice–Brzeznica massif consist of harzburgites, dunites and lherzolites that are serpentinised in various degree. These rocks are regard as upper part of ultramafic sequence of the Sudetic ophiolite complex. Ultramafic rocks of ophiolite sequences are often associated with important mineral deposits like chrome, nickel, cobalt and PGE. EPMA analyses show that the most aboundant ore minerals are oxides like chromite, ferrichromite, magnetite. Sulphide ore minerals are mainly Fe-Ni sulphides. Documented sulphides are: heazlewoodite (Ni3S2), pentlandite(Ni,Fe)9S8, millerite (NiS), godlevskite (Ni7S6). In some sulphide grains occur nickel arsenides inclusions. Ore mineral are dispersed, forms xenomorphic grains from several µm to 4 mm in size. Primary ore minerals like chromite, pentlandite, pyrrhotite and chalkopyrite were affected by fluids, which results in precipitation of secondary mineral phases: Fe-Cr spinel, four generations of magnetite, Fe-Ni sulphides and Ni arsenides. During serpentinisation Cr, Al, Mg in chromite strutcutre were replaced by Fe. Result of this alteration is Fe-Cr spinel and magnetite Ia. Magnetite Ib crystalized in pseudomorphs after olivines and pyroxenenes. Magnetite II precipitate simultaneously with sulphides.

Opis:
In this paper are presented results of study fusion characteristics of the biomass ashes from the hydrolyzed lignin and the ashes from the coke breeze. The hydrolyzed lignin ashes were compared with the coke breeze ashes i.e. with a fossil fuel. These ashes were prepared in muffle furnace at the temperature of 550°C (hydrolyzed lignin) and 850°C (coke breeze). Biomass (the hydrolyzed lignin) represents the new fuels for sintering process and an attractive way to decrease CO2 emissions from the energy production. The characterization methods were the following: standard fuel characterization analyses, chemical and mineralogical composition of the ashes and phase analyses of the ashes of biomass and the coke breeze. These ashes were prepared by the same method. Characterisation of the ashes samples was conducted by means of X-ray fluorescence (XRF), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Quantitative analysis of the crystalline and amorphous phases in each of the ash samples were carried out using the Rietveld method. The dominant phase of the ash from the coke breeze was mullite (Al6 Si2 O13 ). SiO2 is the dominant phase of the ash from the hydrolyzed lignin.

Opis:
The mineral deposit Bor-Cerovo is a relatively simple Cu-(Fe)ore that is becoming poorer and more complex in texture with the depth of mining. The Bor Copper Mine has expanded mine workings to the Cerovo field margins, where the same type of porphyry copper ore was found for which the Bor Mine is known as one of largest in Europe. Under the oxidized zone in the vertical deposit section lie paragenetic mineral associations typical of the cementated zone, or a transitional layer from the primary mineralized rock. Average concentrations of sulphide copper and oxide copper in the primary rock range from 0.263% to 0.164% and from 0.102% to 0.008%, respectively. Concentration of the ore of simple mineral composition has given a product of unsatisfactory both concentrate quality and metal recovery. More study is felt necessary of the structural/textural properties, of the identified mineral relations, and of the rate of mineral product liberation for the given grind fineness. Mineralogical analyses were conducted in the course of laboratory (and technological) tests. It has been learned that chemical analyses of the floatation concentrated material alone were inadequate, especially where complex texture of intergrowths and poor ore were involved. Structural properties and complex integrowths, and concequently low liberation degree, were found to be the reason of poor concentration. This paper discusses importance of the mineral liberation measurement for the technological results of copper ore concentration at the Bor-Cerovo flotation plant, and explains the functional relation between the mineral liberation and the grind fineness. Data on the microscopy of ore texture and the mineral liberation degree presented in this paper are aimed at improving the recovery and grade of chalcopyrite concentrate in the Veliki Krivelj Flotation Plant. Ore microscopy in the laboratory and technological tests indicate that chemical analysis as a tool for monitoring ore flotation is insufficient, especially where the processed ore is complex-textured and poor.
Przeprowadzono analizę mineralogiczną podczas badań laboratoryjnych (i technologicznych). Artykuł ten omawia znaczenie pomiarów uwalniania minerału dla wyników technologicznych koncentracji miedzi w rudzie w zakładzie flotacyjnym Bor-Cerovo, i wyjaśnia funkcjonalną zależność miedzi uwalnianiem minerału a stopniem rozdrobnienia.

Opis:
Demand for iron ore worldwide has been steadily increasing which leads to the extraction of iron ore deposits with more complex mineralogies and higher levels of silicon and phosphorus impurities. This is the case in Algeria with the iron ore deposit of Gara Djebilet, Tindouf; where it has recently been exploited to ensure the sufficiency of iron ore required to produce iron and steel products. This deposit has remained unexploited for several decades due to inadequate knowledge of its mineralogy, treatment, and economic assessments. This study aims to find out the microstructure, chemical composition, and mineralogical distribution of valuable minerals and impurities, to understand the efficient processing methods for this specific iron ore. The characterization of representative ironstone samples taken from the studied area was carried out using optical microscopy, X-ray fluorescence spectrometer (XRF), petrographic microscope, X-ray diffractometer (XRD), and scanning electron microscope (SEM) coupled with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). The results of the mineralogical analyses confirmed that it is an oolitic fine-grained ore consisting of gangue minerals principally composed of quartz, apatite, and iron-rich concentric cored structures. Chemical analyses of the ore indicated that it contains 56.58 wt% Fe with 7.98 wt% SiO2, 7.09 wt% Al2O3, and minor amounts of P2O5, CaO, MgO, and TiO2 compounds. The phosphorus associated was present in both ooids and groundmass, indicating that the ore has a complex texture with very rich and diverse mineralogy. For that, two conceptual scenarios were potentially proposed for processing the studied iron ore, while further detailed automated mineralogical information was required to make sure about the processing units from a practical perspective.

Opis:
Froth flotation of copper-zinc-lead ores is a complex process based on similar metallurgy processing and strong interactions between chalcopyrite and sphalerite. These types of ores represent 15% of the world production and 7.5% of copper deposits all over the world. In the present study, an attempt is made to assess the feasibility of froth flotation of a complex sulphide ore, where the effect of liberation grade as well as depressant, collector and frother dosage was studied. Copper flotation is dependent on the mineral liberation grade, which is significantly related with the size distribution. It was shown that longer grinding time increased the Cu grade but decreased the copper recovery due to the presence of very fine particles. Lime and sodium metabisulphite, used as depressants, allowed to achieve a good flotation performance. It was shown that for this type of ore lower dosage of the collector should be applied. Finally, a higher frother dosage led to a greater selectivity and reduced entrainment of very fine particles, but also caused low kinetic ratio and low recovery of valuable minerals. A well-defined flotation objective was imperative for a good liberation grade and reagents dosage selection, mainly for complex sulphide ores. A useful contribute was given to a better technical understanding of flotation of a complex sulphide ore from the Moinho deposit.

Opis:
A rare indium-bearing mineral from the stratiform Czerniawa Zdrój-Krobica Sn deposit in the Sudetes (NE part of the Bohemian Massif) has been recognized in the qualitative-quantitative chemical composition studies of sulphide-cassiterite samples by electron microprobe (EMPA). This indium-bearing mineral occurs in the form of separate hipautomorphic microscopic grains (diameter 5–20 μm) and as intergrowths and disseminations in chalcopyrite. Observations indicate that this phase crystallized with the main generation of chalcopyrite, sphalerite and also with a younger generation of cassiterite in the mineral succession. The chemical composition of this mineral is as follows: S – 29.38–30.77 wt.%, Zn – 29.76–34.02 wt.%, In – 17.52–19.40 wt.%, Cu – 9.05–10.75 wt.%, Fe – 7.76–8.7 wt.% and Sn – 0.03–0.1 wt.%. Its calculated chemical formula is: (Zn2.09In0.67Cu0.65Fe0.64Cd0.02)∑=4.07 and it is characterized by enrichment of Zn with simultaneous depletion in Cu and Sn relative to the ideal chemical composition of sakuraiite – the most similar mineral in terms of chemical composition. In the light of our new data, it should be considered as a yet unnamed Zn-In-Cu-Fe sulphide mineral. In addition, coexisting sulphide minerals – chalcopyrite (max. 1580 ppm of In) and sphalerite (max. 1640 ppm of In) were identified as indium carriers.

Opis:
The Miedzianka mining district has been known for ages as a site of polymetallic ore deposits with copper and, later, uranium as the main commodities. Although recently uneconomic and hardly accessible, the Miedzianka ores attract Earth scientists due to the interesting and still controversial details of their ore structure, mineralogy and origin. Our examination of the ore mineralization from the Miedzianka district was based exclusively on samples collected from old mining dumps located in the vicinity of Miedzianka and Ciechanowice, and on samples from the only available outcrop in Przybkowice. In samples from the Miedzianka field, chalcopyrite, pyrite, galena, bornite, chalcocite, digenite, arsenopyrite, magnetite, sphalerite, tetrahedrite-tennantite, bornite, hematite, martite, pyrrhotite, ilmenite, cassiterite and covellite are hosted in quartz-mica schists and in coarse-grained quartz with chlorite. In the Ciechanowice field, the ore mineralization occurs mainly in strongly chloritized amphibolites occasionally intergrown with quartz and, rarely, with carbonates. Other host-rocks are quartz-chlorite schist and quartzites. Microscopic examination revealed the presence of chalcopyrite, pyrite, sphalerite, galena, tetrahedrite-tennantite, bismuthinite, native Bi, arsenopyrite, löllingite, cassiterite, cobaltite, gersdorffite, chalcocite, cassiterite, bornite, covellite, marcasite and pyrrhotite. Moreover, mawsonite and wittichenite were identified for the first time in the district. In barite veins cross-cutting the greenstones and greenschists in Przybkowice, we found previously-known chalcopyrite, chalcocite and galena. The composition of the hydrothermal fluids is suggested to evolved through a series of consecutive systems characterized, in turn, by Ti-Fe-Sn, Fe- As-S, Fe-Co-As-S, Cu-Zn-S and, finally, Cu-Pb-Sb-As-Bi compositions.
