Opis:
Current vision-based roughness measurement methods are classified into two main types: index design and deep learning. Among them, the computation procedure for constructing a roughness correlation index based on image data is relatively difficult, and the imaging environment criteria are stringent and not universally applicable. The roughness measurement method based on deep learning takes a long time to train the model, which is not conducive to achieving rapid online roughness measurement. To tackle with the problems mentioned above, a visual measurement method for surface roughness of milling workpieces based on broad learning system was proposed in this paper. The process began by capturing photos of the milling workpiece using a CCD camera in a normal lighting setting. Then, the train set was augmented with additional data to lower the quantity of data required by the model. Finally, the broad learning system was utilized to achieve the classification prediction of roughness. The experimental results showed that the roughness measurement method in this paper not only had a training speed incomparable to deep learning models, but also could automatically extract features and exhibited high recognition accuracy.

The quality of the machined surface is one of the most important criteria when products are processed. For different materials, there are differentially fitting processing technologies and cutting modes to ensure that the parts have surface roughness in the allowed value range. In this paper, the research on surface roughness of machining tropical wood by milling method is presented. It is necessary to establish and solve the optimal problems with such aims as the highest surface quality, minimum cutting power and the highest productivity in the optimal cutting mode. Using a great amount of experimental planning and many constrained nonlinear optimization problem solving methods, the authors built a process and solved the problem to determine the optimal cutting parameters such as feed per tooth Sz, tool tip radius ρ, depth of cut h, etc. that satisfy the above object. Research object is tropical wood chukrasia and this is the database to design woodworking machines by milling method and choose a reasonable working mode when processing on CNC machines.

The article presents the results of studying the effects of technological parameters of milling upon surface roughness and microhardness of C45 steel objects after laser cutting. The metallographic structure formed as an effect of cutting by laser was also analyzed. The milling was performed on a FV-580a vertical machining centre. Depth of cut and feed per tooth were changed within the following range: ap = 0.09–0.18 mm and f z = 0.02–0.17 mm/tooth. To measure the surface roughness a Surtronic 3+ profile graphometer was used, whereas microhardness was measured with the use of a Leco LM 700AT microhardness tester. The surface roughness was significantly improved as a result of milling. The laser beam input and output zones were eliminated. Only a part of the layer hardened by laser cutting was removed while milling, in effect of which after milling the hardness of surface layer is much higher than hardness of the core.

In this paper, an experimental surface roughness analysis in milling of tungsten carbide using a monolithic torus cubic boron nitride (CBN) tool is presented. The tungsten carbide was received using direct laser deposition technology (DLD). The depth of cut (ap), feed per tooth (fz) and tool wear (VBc) influence on surface roughness parameters (Ra, Rz) were investigated. The cutting forces and accelerations of vibrations were measured in order to estimate their quantitative influence on Ra and Rz parameters. The surface roughness analysis, from the point of view of milling dynamics was carried out. The dominative factor in the research was not feed per tooth fz (according to a theoretical model) but dynamical phenomena and feed per revolution f connected with them.

Comparative analysis of the surface texture of machine parts can be successfully carried out using statistical tests. The paper presents a methodology of method used to compare the surface texture by applying Hotelling’s T2 test as well as a method used to evaluate surface topography by applying fractal dimension. The tests were carried out on samples produced with the use of face milling process for four types of materials. The following types of steel were used: 40HM, C45, NC6 and WCL. For each type of material, four areas were machined with the same machining parameters. Based on these results a decision was made whether the surfaces, despite the same machining conditions, were significantly different from each other. Furthermore, the analysis indicated that the fractal dimension enabled to characterise signal irregularities in quantitative and qualitative way.

Opis:
High precise measurement techniques and surface structure analysis are required in advanced fields of interchangeable manufacturing and precision engineering. This study presents the characterization of the surface roughness of the machined milling cutters by experimental precision measurements and the image processing tool. The data obtained are compared to assess the surface characterization parameters and computational data in terms of precision, accuracy, sensitivity, repeatability and resolution. In the experimental measurement phase, the roughness measurements and surface topography characterization were performed in the nanotechnology laboratory using the stylus profilometry and digital microscopy. The computational phase was performed using an image processing toolbox with precise evaluation of the roughness for the machined metal surfaces of the end mill cutting tool. The surface parameter database is established exhibiting an advantage over the traditional method. This study reveals a comparison methodology of the end mill surface parameters using both stylus readings and image processing software for widely used end mill cutting tools that have considerable effect on characterization of sensitive manufacturing surface of millings.

The work presented here, concentrates on experimental surface roughness analysis in the milling of hardened steel using a monolithic torus mill. Machined surface roughness with respect to milling process dynamics has been investigated. The surface roughness model including cutter displacements has been developed. Cutting forces and cutter displacements (vibrations) were measured in order to estimate their quantitative influence on Ra and Rz parameters. The cutter displacements were measured online using a scanning 3D laser vibrometer. The influence of cutting speed νc on surface roughness parameters (Ra, Rz) was also studied. The research revealed that real surface roughness parameters are significantly higher than those calculated on the basis of a kinematic-geometric basic model, and their values are strongly dependent on dynamic cutter displacements.

This review paper focuses on the up-to-date machinability characteristics of milling processes such as cutting forces, surface roughness and tool wear and their impacts on the cutting mechanism. The methodology pur-sued in this paper is to analyze the previous research articles published between 2019–2022 classifying them into the subcategoriesthat usemill-ing operation as manufacturing strategy. As known, milling is one of the most used machining processes in industry and often applied for academic studiesforawide range of materials. Therefore, used sensor systems, main aim and the preferred methodology were summarized in the context of this paper. Seemingly, a great number of machinability papers have been published recently which focuses on the several types of engineering ma-terials and utilized various types of sensor system to improve the surface roughness and tool life. In addition, the investigation showed that optimi-zation approaches have been applied broadly to detect the best machining conditions. Also, it was observed that several modeling approaches such as finite element analysis is a good alternative to analyze the process.

To improve the screw machining accuracy in modern air compressors. This paper investigates three main issues during the development process for cycloid screw machining methods on five-axis CNC machine tools with high precision and efficiency. First, the theoretical basis of cycloid screw surface shaping and derivative of the final profile equation is established. Then, modeling the center trajectory and feed rate according to the cycloid screw profile is given. Next is the experimental setup and simulation of the cycloid screw machining process and discussions. The obtained surface quality prediction parameters are close to the actual measured value, which can be used as a reference model for five-axis CNC milling technology processes. All experimental results obtained by the proposed mathematical model show that a surface with good surface quality is created, meeting the requirements for surface quality. The main work can be used as references for engineers and technicians in practice.

This study aims to investigate the interplay between cutting speed and Thermal-Assisted Machining (TAM) concerning surface roughness during the high-speed machining of SKD11 steel. The integration of pre-cutting workpiece heating introduces a temperature factor that intricately affects surface roughness. The primary objective is to ascertain optimal speed and temperature ranges that synergistically enhance machining efficiency, curtail costs, and elevate surface quality. The experimental protocol initiates with room temperature milling of SKD11 steel, progressively elevating the temperature gradient to systematically appraise temperature's impact on surface roughness under both conventional and elevated cutting speeds. Subsequent experimentation, conducted within specific temperature thresholds, entails stepwise augmentation of cutting speed to elucidate the influence of high-speed conditions on surface roughness. The ensuing analysis meticulously examines the ramifications of distinct cutting speed intervals on surface roughness. Ultimately, the study furnishes pragmatic recommendations for judiciously selecting cutting speeds and heating temperature parameters across diverse machining scenarios.

This paper presents the results of an investigation of the cutting torque and surface roughness in the face milling of nickel-based alloy Inconel 718. In the experimental tests monolithic tools with a diameter of d = 12 mm made of SIALON ceramics were used. The tests were conducted at variable technological parameters: ap = 0.8-2 mm; vc = 400-893 m/min; fz = 0.07-0.16 mm/per tooth. It has been found that increasing the feed per tooth fz and the depth of cut ap resulted in a higher cutting torque. In the range of vc = 400-732 m/min the decrease of cutting torque Mc was observed. Surface roughness parameters also depended on machining conditions.
