Opis:
The quality of the machined surface is one of the most important criteria when products are processed. For different materials, there are differentially fitting processing technologies and cutting modes to ensure that the parts have surface roughness in the allowed value range. In this paper, the research on surface roughness of machining tropical wood by milling method is presented. It is necessary to establish and solve the optimal problems with such aims as the highest surface quality, minimum cutting power and the highest productivity in the optimal cutting mode. Using a great amount of experimental planning and many constrained nonlinear optimization problem solving methods, the authors built a process and solved the problem to determine the optimal cutting parameters such as feed per tooth Sz, tool tip radius ρ, depth of cut h, etc. that satisfy the above object. Research object is tropical wood chukrasia and this is the database to design woodworking machines by milling method and choose a reasonable working mode when processing on CNC machines.

Stainless steels have a wide usage field, their needs as structural parts are increasing day by day due to their resistance to corrosion and providing sufficient mechanical strength in environments that would cause corrosion. In addition to high mechanical properties of the stainless steels, the low heat transmission coefficients bring problems during machining. In this study, the suitable cutting tool and cutting parameters have been evaluated in terms of cutting forces and the tool temperature, the experimental results and finite element analysis have been compared in the milling of Custom 450 stainless steel which offers especially an excellent working opportunity at high temperature and salinity environment. Milling experiments have been carried out using L16 experimental design for Taguchi method. Four simulations have been made using finite element method with corresponding values in L16 orthogonal array for optimum cutting tool and the results were compared in terms of cutting forces and tool temperature changes.

Opis:
The finite element method (FEM) is developed to simulate a discontinuous cutting in the whirlwind milling. Firstly, a simplified arc-cutting model for simulating the actual circular cutting, and a plane-cutting model for simplification were both developed and verified by experiments. Then, the effects of cutting parameters on the cutting force and residual stress were effectively investigated based on the plane-cutting model. Moreover, a plane-second- -cutting model was further developed. It showed that a minor decrease of cutting force and a higher maximum compressive stress were generated in the second cutting. Those results were conducive to predict and improve the whirlwind milling.

Opis:
This study presents an inverse heat transfer method to estimate the time history of a local heat flow into the work-piece during milling of AISIH13 with considering a 3D thermal model. Temperatures are measured using thermocouples within the work-piece providing input data for the inverse solver. The conjugate gradient method is used as an inverse solver to predict the local time dependent heat flow distribution on the cutting surfaces as well as the temperature distribution in the work-piece. A moving point heat source and a moving plane heat source with different heat source velocity is considered to investigate their influence on the estimated heat flow. Results indicate a good agreement between the experimental and estimated data with an average root mean square error less than 0.2 ◦C. It can be observed that the heat flow distribution is a function of heat source geometry, cutting speed and feed rate, but the temperature distribution is a weak function of geometry of the moving heat source. Changes of temperature with depth are studied. This study suggests that the developed inverse model can be successfully applied for estimating the heat flow and thermal field in the work-piece during milling.

Opis:
During the machining processes, heat gets generated as a result of plastic deformation of metal and friction along the tool–chip and tool–work piece interface. In materials having high thermal conductivity, like aluminium alloys, large amount of this heat is absorbed by the work piece. This results in the rise in the temperature of the work piece, which may lead to dimensional inaccuracies, surface damage and deformation. So, it is needed to control rise in the temperature of the work piece. This paper focuses on the measurement, analysis and prediction of work piece temperature rise during the dry end milling operation of Al 6063. The control factors used for experimentation were number of flutes, spindle speed, depth of cut and feed rate. The Taguchi method was employed for the planning of experimentation and L18 orthogonal array was selected. The temperature rise of the work piece was measured with the help of K-type thermocouple embedded in the work piece. Signal to noise (S/N) ratio analysis was carried out using the lower-the-better quality characteristics. Depth of cut was identified as the most significant factor affecting the work piece temperature rise, followed by spindle speed. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was employed to find out the significant parameters affecting the work piece temperature rise. ANOVA results were found to be in line with the S/N ratio analysis. Regression analysis was used for developing empirical equation of temperature rise. The temperature rise of the work piece was calculated using the regression equation and was found to be in good agreement with the measured values. Finally, confirmation tests were carried out to verify the results obtained. From the confirmation test it was found that the Taguchi method is an effective method to determine optimised parameters for minimization of work piece temperature.

Opis:
This paper presents the results of a technical and economic analysis of the process of obtaining aggregates by mechanical excavation using hydraulic hammers, vibration rippers, Wirtgen surface miners, and ripper-dozers. The analysis involved a number of machine performance tests carried out at the “Raciszyn” Jurassic limestone deposit. The values determined in the tests included the average performance of individual devices making up the process system, unit fuel consumption and particle size distribution curves. These data served as inputs for the economic analysis of mechanical excavation and aggregate production methods. The method with the smallest unit production cost was determined. As different mechanical excavation methods affect not only the costs of obtaining aggregates, but also other non-economic values, Bellinger’s multi-criteria procedure was used to determine the optimal method. Bellinger’s multi-criteria procedure of selecting the mechanical excavation method may prove to be a useful optimisation tool, although one that requires knowledge of a given industry and its processes. Its advantage lies in relative simplicity and ease of use. This procedure should facilitate the preliminary assessment of selecting the most optimal technology and the assessment of the risk of choosing the least optimal one. The precision and, consequently, the objectivity, of the conducted analysis depends on the number and quality of the adopted criteria, which are largely connected with the knowledge level of the decision maker. On the basis of the authors’ assumptions, the most optimal mechanical excavation method at the “Raciszyn” Jurassic limestone deposit is the Wirtgen surface miner. The main advantage of this procedure is the optimal fragmentation of the excavated material and the low unit cost of aggregate production.

Opis:
High-quality products include those with better surface quality and texture, close dimensional tolerances and form accuracies at precise level, increase fatigue life and burr-free. Burr formation is one of the most common inevitable facts occurring in all material removal processes, reduces assembly and machined part quality. But, burr formation during milling is a more complex mechanism compare to remaining machining burrs and leads to numerous difficulties during the deburring process. To prevent this, one should optimize the combination of cutting parameters during machining itself. In order to build up a link between quality and productivity and to attain the same in the cost-effective way, the present work concentrate on multi objective optimization of CNC end milling process parameters. Multiple performance characteristics with respect to surface quality and performance index like assembly work have been put up, to assess an equivalent single quality index (called grey relational grade) has been optimized finally by Grey based Taguchi method. After that priority weight of individual quality and performance attributes has been estimated by entropy measurement technique on the basis of relative significance and check the feasibility of the proposed technique has been demonstrated in this context.
