    This article explores the interactions of migrant Polish business owners with the new entrepreneurial culture in their host country (the UK). The research question of the article concerns how migrant business owners experience the entrepreneurial culture of their host society and how this process reflects noneconomic aspects of labor market adaptation. In the theoretical dimension, the aim is to develop a perspective of examining the labor market adaptation of migrants as a cultural process which reflects certain values and internalized or institutionalized patterns of thinking and acting (Hofstede 2005). The study examines cross-cultural encounters in three interconnected areas: entrepreneurs’ relations with the state, their interactions with other business people, and their interactions with their employees. International mobility provides individuals with the potential to modify their habits and beliefs in the new structural settings and socio-cultural environment of their activities. Socioeconomic crises are moments of trial for migrants, highlighting the challenges of adaptation but also clarifying differences in values and behaviors. The COVID-19 pandemic perpetuated the migrants’ view of the host country as an entrepreneurship-friendly state and enhanced their vision of the host’s entrepreneurial culture as one based on a high level of trust in regard to business owners. The analysis is based on the qualitative method (53 interviews with Polish migrant entrepreneurs).

    W ramach globalnego przepływu pracowników i siły roboczej istnieje cały szereg terminów określających osoby zmieniające swoje miejsce zamieszkania w celach zarobkowych. Znaczna większość migrantów obiera kierunek przemieszczania się do krajów rozwiniętych gospodarczo, niż te z których pochodzą. Jest to jednak spore uproszczenie, w związku ze zmieniającymi się trendami globalnymi jak i motywami migracji i wybieranymi destynacjami. Większość badań skupia się na przedsiębiorcach wpisujących się w kontekst migracjach z „Południa na Północ” Mniej uwagi poświęcono badaniom nad przedsiębiorcami, którzy wyjechali z kraju wysoko rozwiniętego celem otworzenia swojej działalności w krajach o dużo niższym rozwoju gospodarczym. Dla rozróżnienia, przedsiębiorcy imigranci, którzy z własnej woli, a nie konieczności zmienili kraj pobytu i miejsce działalności swojej firmy, zostali zdefiniowani jako „Self Initiated Expatriate entrepreneurs”, lub „expat-preneurs”. Expat-preneurs ponadto mogą przyczynić się do poprawy rozwoju gospodarki lokalnej i mieć realny wpływ na rozwój biznesu czy napływ inwestycji zagranicznych. Niniejsze opracowanie jest przeglądem literatury, w którym wykorzystano analizę zawartości, aby wypełnić istniejącą w niej lukę oraz urozmaicić badania opracowane w kontekście migracji z Południa na Północ.
    Within the global movement of labor, there are a whole range of terms available to define people changing their place of residence for gainful employment. A large proportion of migrants choose to migrate to economically more developed countries than the country from which they originate. However, this is a generalization, simplifying global trends as well as the motives of migration and the destination. Most of the research to date has focused on entrepreneurs in the context of "South to North" migration. Less attention has been paid to the study of entrepreneurs who have migrated in the opposite direction ("North to South"). These immigrant entrepreneurs, who voluntarily change their country of residence and place of business, have been defined as "Self Initiated Expatriate Entrepreneurs" (Andresen, 2014) or "expat-preneurs" (Solimine, 2015; Vance, 2016). Expat-preneurs maybe able to help improve the development of the local economy and have a real impact on business development or inflow of foreign investment. This study is a literature review, using content analysis, and highlights the existing gap in literature surrounding the migration of immigrant entrepreneurs in a 'North to South' direction.

    Migrants are often the carriers of new skills and original abilities. This study focuses on the importance of ‘new urban entrepreneurship’ – in particular, ethnic or migrant business firms – as a major driver of creative and urban dynamics and economic vitality in urban agglomerations. The paper offers a general account of both backgrounds and socio-economic implications of migrant entrepreneurship in large agglomerations and highlights the socio-economic heterogeneity in motivation and performance among different groups of migrant entrepreneurs. This demographic-cultural diversity prompts intriguing questions about differences in business performance among distinct groups of migrant entrepreneurs, even in the same ethnic group. In the paper, a recently developed and amended version of data envelopment analysis (DEA), viz. super-efficiency, is presented and applied to a group of Moroccan entrepreneurs in four large cities in the Netherlands. The main research aim is (i) to identify the best-performing firms (so-called ‘entrepreneurial heroes’) from a broad management and business perspective, while (ii) the background of our findings are more thoroughly analysed. The paper ends with some general concluding remarks on urban business strategies.
