Opis:
The community of algae occurring in Genlisea traps and on the external traps surface in laboratory conditions were studied. A total of 29 taxa were found inside the traps, with abundant diatoms, green algae (Chlamydophyceae) and four morphotypes of chrysophytes stomatocysts. One morphotype is described as new for science. There are two ways of algae getting into Genlisea traps. The majority of those recorded inside the traps, are mobile; swimming freely by flagella or moving exuding mucilage like diatoms being ablate to colonize the traps themselves. Another possibility is transport of algae by invertebrates such as mites and crustaceans. In any case algae in the Genlisea traps come from the surrounding environment. Two dominant groups of algae (Chladymonas div. and diatoms) in the trap environment, show ability to hydrolyze phosphomonoseters. We suggest that algae in carnivorous plant traps can compete with plant (host) for organic phosphate (phosphomonoseters). From the spectrum and ecological requirements of algal species found in the traps, environment inside the traps seems to be acidic. However, further studies are needed to test the relations between algae and carnivorous plants both in laboratory conditions and in the natural environment. All the reported taxa are described briefly and documented with 74 LM and SEM micrographs.

Opis:
Standard methods for quantifi cation of airborne bacteria are based on cultivation and counting of grown colonies. From complex natural environments it is known that only a small fraction of the total number of cells can be cultivated on routinely used agar-media. Direct microscopic cell counting after DNA-staining usually generates higher concentrations of one to two magnitudes. The objective of the presented study was to compare the concentrations of airborne bacteria sampled in a composting facility by using for any sample the cultivation on trytic soy agar (TSA) – agar, as well as direct counting after DAPI-staining. The concentrations after counting grown colonies were within a range of 105-107 cfu m-3. Concentrations of direct counted cells ranged between 106-109 microbes m-3. In these comparative measurements only 1.5-15.3% of the airborne bacterial cells enumerated by direct counting formed countable colonies after incubation on TSA-agar. Obviously, cultivation based methods underestimate the real amount of airborne microbes. In addition, from literature it is known that inactive or even dead cells can also have the potential to cause health effects. Consequently, a risk assessment based only on measuring colony forming units may, in some cases, not be sufficient.

Opis:
Improperly treated heavy metal wastewater discharged into water sources could cause a serious issue for the environment. The aim of this study was to bioaccumulate iron (Fe) using native bacteria isolated from the laboratory drainage water containing a high concentration of iron. The experiment was conducted in 250 mL conical flasks containing 150 mL Fe solution in concentrations of 25, 100, and 250 mg/L, respectively. Approximately 10% of bacteria inoculum was cultivated in each Fe concentration for 24 and 48 hours. The results showed that Pseudomonas hibiscicola was identified as an effective iron-accumulating species of bacteria. The species could remove Fe up to 82% (25 mg/L), 77.8% (100 mg/L) and 32% (250 mg/L). This promising result indicates that the native bacteria isolated from the environment pose a great potential for the remediation of wastewater containing iron.

Potassium permaganate has been used since ages for disinfection of water. It is known for oxidation of cell membrane of micro organisms. But the pink colour prevailing after use makes people reject the water on aesthetic grounds. Water samples from bore wells and tap water from public places were collected from different areas of Visakhapatnam. Physio-chemical and microbial analysis analyses of the water samples were carried out. A dose based permaganate treatment of water depending upon number of colony forming units and species of microorganism present in the water was carried out [1,2,5].

Drinking water is acting as life line for living thing on the Earth, without that no life. Due to global industrialization availability of pure water is one of the major issues. The effluent are directly or indirectly discharge through the river stream, which affect the ground as well as sea water and climatically cycle water reach to us. In that condition medicine are required for quire purpose. In the world so many plants and herbs are available which are used as antimicrobial and sources of medicines. Today the large number of drugs in use is derived from plants. The important advantages for therapeutic uses of medicinal plants in various ailments are their safety besides being economical, effective and easy availability. In this regard’s herb plant Eucalyptus extracted oil is used as antibacterial agent to treat the drinking water.

Opis:
Bisphenol A (BPA) is widely used in everyday life and can be found everywhere, including in the ecosystem and manufactured goods. BPA not only has a negative impact in low doses, but it also has biological and pathophysiological implications for obesity and hormonal effects. The objectives of this paper were to review the BPA removal technology and the factors that influence the BPA removal based on biological methods. BPA elimination from water is crucial for environmental protection, in terms of biological treatment. In addition, the future prospect of biological removal of BPA indicates that effective microorganism cultures could disturb the pathogen growth and increase composition rate of BPA. The biological technology by the implementation of microorganisms for the removal of BPA through break down of organic contaminants is straightforward, money saving, and widely acknowledged by the public.

The new SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) started in Wuhan City of China on December 31st 2019As at August 3,2020 a total of 18,056,310 million cases had been diagnosed globally with over 689,219 deaths with cases in Nigeria snowballing gradually becoming lethal. Given Nigeria’s socio-economic and demographic significance to African continent, it is imperative to understand the cultural norms that may aid or obstructs prevention and treatment of the disease in order to halt its transmission. Data for study came from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and other publicly available data sources supported with PEN-3 cultural model developed in 1989 by Airhihenbuwa. The model places culture at the core of the development, implementation and evaluation of successful public health interventions. COVID-19 transmission increases with large population concentration in urban areas and proximity to major entry points to other adjacent states and countries. The paper suggested that dominant cultures, civilization and religious practices should be adhered to, adopted as the case may be for restrictions such physical distancing, hand hygiene, use of face masks and another prophylactic regimen to flatten the curve of the pandemic in Nigeria and likely occurrence of similar disease in future.
