Opis:
This paper proposes an advanced Internet of Things (IoT) system for measuring, monitoring, and recording some power quality (PQ) parameters. The proposed systemis designed and developed for both hardware and software. For the hardware unit, three PZEM-004T modules with non-invasive current transformer (CT) sensors are used tomeasure the PQ parameters and an Arduino WeMos D1 R1 ESP8266 microcontroller isused to receive data from the sensors and send this data to the server via the internet. For the software unit, an algorithm using Matlab software is developed to send measurement datato the ThingSpeak cloud. The proposed system can monitor and analyse the PQ parameters including frequency, root mean square (RMS) voltage, RMS current, active power, and the power factor of a low-voltage load in real-time. These PQ parameters can be stored on theThingSpeak cloud during the monitoring period; hence the standard deviation in statistics of the voltage and frequency is applied to analyse and evaluate PQ at the monitoring point. The experimental tests are carried out on low-voltage networks 380/220 V. The obtained results show that the proposed system can be usefully applied for monitoring and analysing chosen PQ parameters in micro-grid solutions.

Opis:
Modelling operation of the power supply system for remote island communities is essential for its operation, as well as a survival of a modern society settled in challenging conditions. Micro-grid emerges as a proper solution for a sustainable development of a spatially constrained remote island community, while at the same time reflecting the power requirements of similar maritime subjects, such as large vessels and fleets. Here we present research results in predictive modelling the output of a small wind turbine, as a component of a remote island micro-grid. Based on a month-long experimental data and the machine learning-based predictive model development approach, three candidate models of a small wind turbine output were developed, and assessed on their performance based on an independent set of experimental data. The Random Forest Model out performed competitors (Decision Tree Model and Artificial Neural Network Model), emerging as a candidate methodology for the all-year predictive model development, as a later component of the over-all remote island micro-grid model.

Opis:
Self-healing grids are one of the most developing concepts applied in electrical engineering. Each restoration strategy requires advanced algorithms responsible for the creation of local power systems. Multi-agent automation solutions dedicated for smart grids are mostly based on Prim’s algorithm. Graph theory in that field also leaves many problems unsolved. This paper is focused on a variation of Prim’s algorithm utility for a multi-sourced power system topology. The logic described in the paper is a novel concept combined with a proposal of a multi-parametrized weight calculation formula representing transmission features of energy delivered to loads present in a considered grid. The weight is expressed as the combination of three elements: real power, reactive power, and real power losses. The proposal of a novel algorithm was verified in a simulation model of a power system. The new restoration logic was compared with the proposal of the strategy presented in other recently published articles. The novel concept of restoration strategy dedicated to multi-sourced power systems was verified positively by simulations. The proposed solution proved its usefulness and applicability.

The paper presents the results of grid power quality tests and wide frequency electromagnetic radiation level tests to which home power networks with photovoltaic systems have been subjected. The said results are meaningful from the point of view of safety and compatibility of electrical devices and the power supply system they are connected to. The tests covered stability of phase voltage and its frequency, harmonic level flicker, as well as RF radiated and emission levels. The measurements performed provide an answer to the question concerning the level of compliance of randomly selected home-installed PV systems with applicable recommendations and regulations concerning electromagnetic compatibility. The ability to meet the applicable standards translates into the health and safety of building inhabitants, which is the ultimate goal. Legal regulations concerning electromagnetic compatibility of renewable energy sources are consistent throughout the entire European Union.

Opis:
As it is commonly known, heat exchangers are widely used in power generators equipment. The biggest disadvantage of conventional heat exchangers is that, in case of the energy load variation, it must be replaced by the one of different size. The aim of this work is to specify a method of combining micro channel heat exchangers into a grid, realising different powers. It was ment to specify the most accurate micro channel heat exchangers connection, in order to increase the intensity of the heat exchange process. Studied problem was about heating the ORC working medium (R134a) using waste heat (hot water). In this paper, there has been studied the fenomenon of the heat exchange process in the micro channel heat exchanger grid, which will be further called the integral heat exchanger. There have been studied three cases of micro channel heat exchangers connections, such as: parallel-parallel, parallel (heating water)-serial (R134a) and parallel (R134a) – serial (heating water). On the basis of the results of the analytical analysis it has been stated, that the serial (heating water)-parallel (R134a 7) micro channel heat exchangers combination is the most suitable for the most intensive heat exchange.

Opis:
This study takes into account engines working in Stirling cycles in cogeneration systems. Stirling engines have been selected because of their characteristics of exploitation. The possibility of their use in cogeneration systems is more favourable in comparison with other combustion engines because they can avoid usage of industrial and transport fuels. The Stirling engines enable the use of biomass, agricultural and other waste energy sources in micro tri- and cogeneration plants dedicated for the use in agriculture and forestry. Considering such applications, three types of usage structures of Stirling engines are proposed. All three structures are dedicated to install in small residential or farm buildings. These three types of structure are named: “type master”, “type slave” and “type customer”. In accordance with the proposed structures, different types of engine constructions are discussed, too. At the same time, the authors described the dependences between Stirling engines and electric power energy systems. The arguments of grid power systems and dispersed energy resource in text were reviewed. After that overview, some legal problems are discussed. Finally, the conception of independent dispersed micro agropower system and some technical equipment were described. Technical realization of the proposed conception requires: proper type, installation and usage of Stirling engines and proper expectations of achieved results.

Opis:
Power generation by photovoltaic cells depends on random weather conditions, so at the planning stage the active powers output to the grid from photovoltaic micro-installations can be treated as multidimensional random variables with equal probability distribution. Such microinstallations’ passive power outputs depend on the pre-set power factor and therefore should be treated as multidimensional functions of the random active power outputs. Likewise, the received input powers can be treated the same way. Random changes in the output and input powers can be simulated using a pseudo-random number generator. Node voltages corresponding to the random outputs and inputs are derived from the iterative solution of nodal equations for each pseudo-random power balance. The resulting voltages are subjected to statistical analysis. This allows estimating the probability distribution, expected values and standard deviations, and to calculate the probabilities of exceeding the permitted voltage deviations. These considerations will be illustrated by an example calculation.

Opis:
The electrical network is a man-made complex network that makes it difficult to monitor and control the power system with traditional monitoring devices. Traditional devices have some limitations in real-time synchronization monitoring which leads to unwanted behavior and causes new challenges in the operation and control of the power systems. A Phasor measurement unit (PMU) is an advanced metering device that provides an accurate real-time and synchronized measurement of the voltage and current waveforms of the buses in which the PMU devices are directly connected in the grid station. The device is connected to the busbars of the power grid in the electrical distribution and transmission systems and provides time-synchronized measurement with the help of the Global Positioning System (GPS). However, the implementation and maintenance cost of the device is not bearable for the electrical utilities. Therefore, in recent work, many optimization approaches have been developed to overcome optimal placement of PMU problems to reduce the overall cost by providing complete electrical network observability with a minimal number of PMUs. This research paper reviews the importance of PMU for the modern electrical power system, the architecture of PMU, the differences between PMU, micro-PMU, SCADA, and smart grid (SG) relation with PMU, the sinusoidal waveform, and its phasor representation, and finally a list of PMU applications. The applications of PMU are widely involved in the operation of power systems ranging from power system control and monitor, distribution grid control, load shedding control and analyses, and state estimation which shows the importance of PMU for the modern world.
