Opis:
Po omówieniu wybranych właściwości form prezentacji kartograficznej, w artykule przedstawiono propozycję modyfikacji klasyfikacji L. Ratajskiego, podanej w podręczniku z 1989 roku.
Despite a number of theoretical dissertations there is still no generally accepted classification of cartographic methods of presentation. The classification proposed by L. Ratajski (1989) is used in Poland. Being developed in the early 1960s, it is almost 50 years old. The classification bases on the type of presented information. Methods are divided into quantitative (diagram map, choropleth map, isolines, dot method) and qualitative (areal method, pictoral method). This division is insufficient, because in measurement theory there also exists the ordinal level. Every quantitative method should therefore include presentation on ordinal level. I believe that a method known in Polish literature as signature method (e.g. city size in general geographical maps) should be moved to the quantitative group. All quantitative methods convey information using class division, so statistic data are transformed into classes. Diagram map is an exception - it can be used in continuous form (with size variable) as well as in its class division version. This aspect asks for more research from the point of cartoaraphic methods of presentation.

The aim of the author of this article is to show the users of Geographical Information Systems how to present the distortions in a simple way. The intention of the author is also to popularize the knowledge in the scope of map projections and to inform the users of the maps that, despite all the advanced modern tools, an elimination of the problem, connected with the map projections and cartographical distortions occurring in them, has failed so far. The author presents a brief overview of the measures in the scope of distortions and methods of their presentation. It is also shown how the users can generate the maps, presenting a distortion by themselves. It is much easier to perform this type of visualization with the help of “matplotlib library”, basically everyone can compile such a map.

Opis:
A new method appeared on the contemporary „theological market”, called the graphic presentation method or graphic presentation. It is an introduction to a certain principal paradox of Christianity and seeing the articles of faith. Its application to broadly understood theology can make theology itself more available to people and contribute to its popularization through the kerygma of Church. It opens a new span in theology through which it is possible to express both integrity, the whole of the history of salvation, its internally cohesive structure, and its dynamics. Each graph illustrates a different stage of the fulfilment of the salutary plan of God.

Opis:
W artykule przeanalizowano i oceniono możliwości opracowania kartogramów i kartodiagramów w jednym z programów typu GIS -MapInfo Professional 10.5. Omówione możliwości programu skonfrontowano z zasadami metodyki kartograficznej.
Autors analyze and evaluate the possibilities of elaborating choropleth maps and diagrams using one of the most popular programs for servicing geographic information systems - MapInfo Professional 10.5. The article focuses only on two forms of cartographic presentation since they are the most frequently used and described in detail in MapInfo. The classification of map elaboration methods used in the MapInfo program is completely different from the classification accepted in Polish cartography. Not only is the "classification" completely different, but also MapInfo features methods unknown and incorrect from the cartographical point of view. These erratic solutions adversely affect the evaluation of the program. MapInfo Professional is made for a wide range of potential users, therefore it would seem natural to expect that they be given correct basics of cartographic methodology. Terminology used both in the program and in the MapInfo guides very often differs from the terminology accepted in Polish cartography, which is a serious problem. Not only does it adversely affect the understanding of the program, but also causes chaotic terminology to spread. In the analyzed program the diagram can be generated by as many as four methods of generating a thematic map which makes it the program's most developed method of cartographic presentation. However, it is impossible to generate a diagram map illustrating values of a phenomenon with the use of a graph. Considering all sorts of diagrams (one- and multi--parameter, flat and three-dimentional block), it appears that only a small part of those can be generated in MapInfo Professional. There are options to elaborate one parameter flat geometric diagrams in the shape of a circle, half circle, column, square, triangle and polygon. While editing, the user has the option of changing their filling and contour. The lack of the option to adapt the size of diagrams to the size of base units is the program's very serious disadvantage, as automation and acceleration of map elaboration process is a feature quite expected of GIS software. Including an adequate algorithm seems indispensible. It is possible to generate a line diagram in the same form as a related to point or an area diagram in the program. In such a case the diagram is put in the "middle" of the line to which it refers (fig. 8). The solution is completely inconsistent with cartographic methodology and cannot be classified within cartographic methods of presentation. According to the information in MapInfo user guide (2008) the so-called division method is the equivalent of the second method of presentation mentioned in this article- the choropleth map. It appears, however, that with this "method" it is possible to present all quantitative data. There is no warning that the choropleth map can only be applied for presenting relative data. Moreover, there is no option to generate a continuous or two-variable choropleth map, or a correct legend. Attempts to generate choropleth maps and diagrams in MapInfo have proved that the suggested solutions are not entirely correct and satisfactory. Although the program contains many useful functions, they are underdeveloped and occasionally can even mislead the user.

W artykule omówiono kilka zagadnień związanych z redagowaniem map kropkowych, a więc sposoby wyznaczania wielkości i wagi kropek, sposoby rozmieszczenia kropek na mapie oraz zarysowano problematykę relacji metody kropkowej do innych form prezentacji kartograficznej, co w przyszłości może ułatwić opracowanie poprawnej klasyfikacji kartograficznych metod i form prezentacji.
The article discusses several issues concerning the elaboration of dot maps. The dot method is difficult to digitize and requires considerable editing skill. Discussed are the following issues: range of application of the method, method of determination of dot size and value, methods of dot distribution on the map. Although the range of application of the dot method is rather broad, it is most rarely used by cartographers. Among many methods of determination of dot size and value it is worth noting the method of G. Ozerova (1973), which facilitates the establishment of these parameters on maps of population distribution (fig. 3 and 4). According to the author, on almost any map dots are distributed regularly within marked areas, but the final effect depends on the scale of size reduction of the map for reproduction. The last section of the article discusses the dot method in relation to other methods of cartographic presentation. According to the author there is some similarity between the dot method and the pictorial point symbol method (fig. 6,7), the area symbol method (fig. 8), the proportional symbols method (fig. 9), the repeated symbol method (fig. 10) and the choropleth map (fig. 11). Such analysis may aid better understanding of cartographic methods of presentation and help to prepare their proper classification.
