W artykule przedstawiono ocenę przydatności różnego typu algorytmów służących do obliczania liczby metanowej paliw gazowych. Ocenę przydatności poszczególnych metod obliczeniowych przeprowadzono na podstawie uzyskanych wartości wskaźnika z-score. Podczas obliczeń uwzględniono zróżnicowany skład gazów palnych. Z tego względu obliczenia prowadzono dla gazu ziemnego, biogazu oraz gazów odpadowych. Uzyskane wyniki badań pozwoliły wskazać najbardziej uniwersalną metodę obliczania liczby metanowej oraz określić minimalną zawartość metanu, dla której prowadzenie obliczeń jest możliwe.
The paper evaluates the suitability of various types of algorithms for calculating the methane number of gaseous fuels. The assessment of the suitability of individual calculation methods was based on the obtained z-score values. During calculations, the differentiated composition of flammable gases was taken into account. For this reason, calculations were made for natural gas, biogas and technological gas. The obtained results of the research allowed to indicate the most universal method for calculating the methane number and to determine the minimum methane content for which calculation is possible.

The methane number is an important parameter characterizing motor fuels. The value of the methane number determines the fuel susceptibility to knocking combustion, and the higher its value, the greater the fuel resistance to knocking combustion. Natural gas belonging to the H group should have a minimum methane number above 65 (PN-EN 16726:2018). The dominant view in the literature is that the optimal value of the methane number for gases burned in CNG or LNG fueled car engines should be above 80 due to the efficiency of the engine operation and low emission of harmful substances. In the era of striving to reduce the consumption of fossil fuels and replace them with renewable energy sources (RES), it is important to check how significantly will the hydrogen addition impact the methane number value of natural gas. It is essential because hydrogen has been in the spotlight for several years now as an excellent energy carrier and the so-called clean fuel, and for zero methane number was assumed. The article discusses the effect of hydrogen addition to natural gas on the value of the methane number of the resulting mixture in relation to the minimum and optimal value of the methane number. Data on 19 different compositions of natural gas were used to perform the analysis. They characterized natural gas belonging to group E from the Polish distribution network. The results of the calculations carried out allow us to state that the addition of hydrogen to natural gas, in an amount allowing to maintain the physicochemical parameters of the gas specified in the relevant standards, causes a decrease in the value of the methane number of the resulting natural gas-hydrogen mixture by a maximum of 22.1%. However, in none of the analyzed cases the obtained methane number was lower than the minimum value of 65. With regard to the optimal methane number value for gaseous fuels, it can be concluded that the addition of hydrogen to natural gas (while maintaining the adopted assumptions regarding energy parameters and gas density) can increase the knocking properties of the resulting mixture and make it not an optimal fuel. The performed calculations and analyzes also showed that the change in the methane number value of the natural gas-hydrogen mixture is proportional to the amount of hydrogen introduced into natural gas.

The paper considers the issue of thermo-chemical recovery of engine’s waste heat and its further use for steam conversion of the associated gas for oil and gas floating units. The characteristics of the associated gas are presented, and problems of its application in dual-fuel medium-speed internal combustion engines are discussed. Various variants of combined diesel-gas turbine power plant with thermo-chemical heat recovery are analyzed. The heat of the gas turbine engine exhaust gas is utilized in a thermo-chemical reactor and a steam generator. The engines operate on synthesis gas, which is obtained as a result of steam conversion of the associated gas. Criteria for evaluating the effectiveness of the developed schemes are proposed. The results of mathematical modeling of processes in a 14.1 MW diesel-gas turbine power plant with waste heat recovery are presented. The effect of the steam/associated gas ratio on the efficiency criteria is analyzed. The obtained results indicate relatively high effectiveness of the scheme with separate high and low pressure thermo-chemical reactors for producing fuel gas for both gas turbine and internal combustion engines. The calculated efficiency of such a power plant for considered input parameters is 45.6%.

Opis:
The article describes a new method for obtaining fuel properties, derived from the thermal properties of natural gas fuel mixtures. By measuring the thermal conductivity and the dynamic response with the help of a heated Micro Electro Mechanical System (MEMS), input values for a mathematical correlation are obtained which predict the calorific value of the gas. In this paper the fundamentals of the theoretical gas properties, the sensor operation and the first results on a gas test bench are presented.
