Opis:
The article aims to reconstruct the conceptualization of KÆRLIGHED (LOVE) in Old Danish (1100–1515). In the first part of the study, the structure of the concept in Old Danish is analyzed, and parallels are drawn to the modern-day concept of KÆRLIGHED, the most significant differences being registered in the subcategories of PATRIOTISM and ROMANTIC LOVE, as well as in connection with the sense ‘love to do’. In the following parts of the study, the most important aspects and conceptual metaphors of Old Danish KÆRLIGHED are revealed, demonstrating a great influence of Christian values. Lastly, the nouns ælskhugh and kærlikhet are analyzed, and the difference between them is described as a different profiling of the various aspects of KÆRLIGHED, such as JOY and PLEASURE.

Contemporary Literature
Opis:
Metaphors of “coldness“ have increased dramatically in our present time, as evidenced by the three texts to be examined. The two novels Unter Schnee (2001) and Kältere Schichten der Luft (2007) by Antje Rávic Strubel focus on (or: are concerned with) lesbian relationships and the unfulfilled dreams through ties between the sexes. The novel Vogelweide (2013) by Uwe Timm runs through various heterosexual couple-constellations, for which the author utilizes the foil of Goethe’s Affective Affinities. He is con-scious of the fact that the traditional marriage has lost its status as a role model. All characters in the novel are searching for a new “language of love,” but in their pursuit they relapse to those clichés, which they sought to escape. ‘Heat’ and ‘coldness’ turn out to be metaphors that have become obsolete a long time ago. They now produce dichotomies and narrow the love-discourse to meteorological sensibilities. The strong presence of sensations of coldness in all three novels nevertheless is still revealing. It can be read as a Symptom – to stay with the metaphors of the texts – for a ‘cooling-down’ of the relationship between the sexes.

Opis:
The aim of this paper is to present the linguistic image of love derived from the wedding sermons published in the Internet. The idea of love is rarely defined in the analyzed texts and it is rarely presented in different aspects. Love is presented in the positive way by repeating the same, mostly conventionalized metaphors. What is more, the idea of love in the analyzed texts is stereotyped and schematic, because the authors of sermons refer to the common texts such as St. Paul Hymn to Love or different examples from everyday life. On the on hand, language of the sermons resembles the science and theological language that is not understandable for recipients, and on the other hand it is colloquial with the huge amount of expressive words.

Opis:
This article examines the presentation of love between Bogomila and Črtomir, the main characters in the historic romantic poem Krst pri Savici (The Baptism on the Savica) by France Prešeren (1800–1849). The main protagonists are the pagan leader Črtomir – who enters into battle with an army led by the Christian Valjhun, Duke of Carinthia – and the young maiden Bogomila, Črtomir’s love. The main part of the poem describes Črtomir’s search for Bogomila after the battle, and his baptism at the source of the Savica River, a baptism he accepts out of love for her. At the heart of Prešeren’s poem are the lyrical dialogues about the emerging love between Črtomir and Bogomila that grew into an experience of love marked by immortality, as they renounce their will in exchange for eternal love beyond earthly existence. Bogomila is described as beautiful, innocent, modest, ethereal and gentle by nature, but at the same time steadfast and consistent in her decisions. The main point of the article is Bogomila’s opting for sacrifice, understood in the context of the religious sphere of offering or dedication, of giving up the self to God. Among Slovenian literary critics, Prešeren’s poem is seen as an open work, because it allows each reader to unlock the text in her or his own manner. The most radical and contrary explanation of Prešeren’s poem is Dominik Smole’s more contemporary Slovenian play The Baptism on the Savica. According to Smole, Črtomir and Bogomila do not know how to love; their love is “wild,” depersonalized, violent, devoid of pure desire and too weak for self-sacrifice; they deny and ultimately destroy each other through egotistical behaviour.
