    Opis:
    The paper reports on a comparative corpus-based semantic analysis of one colour term as it is used in two languages: English yellow and Polish żółty. The investigation of central and peripheral meanings, based on analyses of corpus concordances draws upon the methodology and constructs of cognitive linguistics, such as prototype-based categories, domains, conceptual metonymy and metaphor. The first objective of this parallel study is to determine the prototypical reference points for yellow and żółty, followed by descriptions of those motivations and mechanisms of meaning extensions which lead to ‘figurative’ usages. The results are tentatively suggested in the form of a general network of related meanings, the entrenchments of which are established on the basis of frequencies attested in samples of 1,500 citations. The outcomes confirm a conceptual proximity reflected in the semantics of these colour terms, which seems to be - perhaps surprisingly - incongruous with the popular association of yellow/żółty with the sun. As the evidence provided by the British National Corpus and the Polish Scientific Publishers' corpus (PWN) reveals, the central and peripheral readings are inspired by the imagery of autumnal and physiological changes, while the semantics of both yellow and żółty reflect the significant influence of cultural factors, unparalleled in the polysemies of the other five basic colour terms.

    En proposant une méthodologie basée sur les postulats de la grammaire cognitive, l’article présente une analyse contrastive français-polonais des extensions métaphoriques, et plus précisément, des relations de catégorisation sur lesquelles elles sont fondées. L’étude porte sur les noms de parties du corps humain désignant des parties des instruments de musique. Elle vise à dévoiler les similitudes et les divergences entre ces catégorisations aux différents niveaux d’abstraction : allant du niveau le plus élevé, par la structure schématique [partie du corps humain] - - - > [partie d’un instrument de musique], jusqu’aux élaborations de cette dernière, c’est-à-dire aux extensions particulières. Celles-ci sont analysées aux trois niveaux d’équivalence : lexical, référentiel et celui des domaines activés. Cela met en évidence quelques types d’équivalence entre les élaborations françaises et polonaises de la structure schématique citée ci-haut.
    Analiza kontrastywna z perspektywy gramatyki kognitywnej – nazwy części ciała w domenie instrumentów muzycznych Proponując metodologię opartą na postulatach gramatyki kognitywnej, artykuł przedstawia analizę kontrastywną rozszerzeń metaforycznych w języku francuskim i polskim, a dokładniej, relacji kategoryzujących stanowiących ich podstawę. Przedmiotem analizy są nazwy części ciała ludzkiego odnoszące się do części instrumentów muzycznych. Badanie zakłada opis podobieństw i różnic w relacjach kategoryzujących na różnych poziomach abstrakcji: przechodząc od poziomu najwyższego, poprzez strukturę schematyczną [część ciała ludzkiego] - - - > [część instrumentu muzycznego], po poziom poszczególnych elaboracji tej struktury, tj. poziom poszczególnych rozszerzeń. Te ostatnie przeanalizowane zostają na trzech poziomach ekwiwalencji: leksykalnym, referencyjnym oraz aktywowanych domen.     Proposing a methodology based on the assumptions of Cognitive Grammar, this article presents a contrastive analysis of metaphorical extensions in French and Polish or, more precisely, of the categorising relationships that constitute their foundations. The object of analysis is the names of body parts that refer to parts of musical instruments. The analysis assumes the description of different levels of abstraction of the similarities and differences in the categorising relationships: beginning with the highest level, through the schematic structure [part of the body] - - - > [part of the musical instrument], to the level of specific elaborations of this structure, i.e. the level of specific extensions. These lowest-level extensions are analysed at three levels of equivalence: lexical, referential, and that of the activated domains. This leads to the identification of several types of equivalence between the French and Polish elaborations of the above-mentioned schema.

    Opis:
    This paper analyzes two French cooking verbs: cuire and bouillir, and their Polish equivalents: (–)gotować (się), (–)piec (się), (–)smażyć (się), wrzeć, the symbol (–) indicates the prefix slot. Its purpose is to observe the figurative meanings of these verbs that are based on metaphorical and metonymic transfers. We have been able to identify the following semantic extensions, which are however not systematically exploited in the two analyzed languages: to submit to a strong action of the heat, to make a modification, to cause a physical or a moral pain, a painful feeling, to feel strong negative emotions, to be filled with anxiety, to be upset, to upset or to create difficulties, to stay unaided, helpless or lost, to be unable to escape, to regret, to be drunk, to write a text with great effort, to be hot, to boil, to resound with noise, to be in progress in an intense manner, to be in a state of excitement, not to suffer the consequences.
