The article presents that the sense of verbal-visual messages is a result of various relations between text and images (parallel, supplementing and interpretative meaning, equivalence and contradiction). In the article the technique of finding the expected income in multipleline queueing systems closed exponential by HM-network with priority messages in a case when the income from transitions between its states is random variables with known average values is described. The intensity of the service of messages in systems linearly depends on their number. The approached expressions for the expected income, depending on the average numbers of messages in systems are received. For them the system of the linear differential equations with broken right parts is made. The example is calculated.

Aim. The aim of the study is to find what Parental messages (PM) modern Bulgarian teenagers receive in the process of important social and cultural changes in the post-totalitarian society and which ones are ‘responsible’ for the growing aggression in and outside schools. The Parental Messages are statements to the younger generation made by the parents that are transmitted in the socio-psychic and the sociocultural space as undisputable rules, pieces of wisdom and values, i.e. they form both the content of the Parent Ego state and the sociocultural Parent governing the behaviour and the attitude of the people. Methods. We chose 64 commonly known in the Bulgarian sociocultural space statements which were presented to 284 teenagers aged 14-18 to find out what messages the contemporary teenagers receive from their parents. Then we chose 40 of the teenagers and in addition we tested them with the Buss-Durkee inventory. The Parental messages received by the aggressive and the non-aggressive teenagers were compared. Results. The study found significant differences in the Parental messages received by the two groups which is a premise for different content of the Parent Ego state and different behavior of the two groups. Conclusions. The results obtained so far lead to the conclusion that the Parental messages the aggressive adolescents were given from their parents in childhood and continue to be given during adolescence take the form of the content of the Parent Ego state and in this case a Parent who is able to directly realise itself in aggressive behaviour because this is the behaviour which is ‘allowed’ by the parents (mainly by the fathers). Parents teach their children to be aggressive, though they are not likely to fully realise that. Originality. A study with the author’s own methodology (questionnaire about the Parental Messages) was conducted among teenagers and the results were compared to the results from the Buss-Durkey inventory.

This paper presents an analysis of the social reception of a protest by people with disabilities and their families (and guardians), with a special focus on its educational dimension. The protest took place in the main corridor of the Sejm complex in Warsaw in April and May 2017. The first part of the paper comprises the essential characteristics of social protests. The second provides a brief overview of media information about the discussed protest. The recapitulation of this part specifies the conditions that give the protest an educational dimension. From there, the analysis is narrowed to the reception of knowledge pertaining to the situation of the needs of people with disabilities and their families and the change in attitudes to this social group. The third part comprises a presentation of the research results on this issue. The research was conducted with the use of diagnostic polling—the questionnaire technique, applied to a group of 200 people. The research results show that the protest was a kind of information campaign and that it contributed to some changes in respondents’ knowledge concerning people with disabilities and their families and the transformation of attitudes to their needs.

This study focuses on digital games that have become powerful persuasion tools which can be utilized for political marketing purposes. The authors believe that these media have to be thoroughly explored, because of the great potential of these platforms to become very useful tools for setting up political messages and the outreach capacity to the voting segment being difficult to achieve if only traditional media are used. The paper provides a set of theoretical views on political marketing in digital games. There are many examples analyzed in the paper, proving that the techniques of political marketing can create big benefits and that they can help politicians achieve their goals. So, we hypothesized a new phase of political marketing, underpinned by the utilization of digital games. As a methodology, we used content analysis of various digital games. The aim of this paper is to offer a better understanding of the benefits of political marketing campaigns in the digital gaming industry and to explore the role and impact of these techniques, as well as to provide potential future directions of this form of marketing.

Starting from the concept of “external branding” of states and nations, the paper analyses the speeches and messages of Pope John Paul II dedicated to Croats and the Croatian state, spoken and published during his pontificate (1978–2005), in order to uncover how he perceived and presented the Croatian identity. The author believes that Pope John Paul II, thanks to his charisma and significant public impact, as well as extensive knowledge of the Croatian identity, contributed greatly to strengthening the recognisability of Croats in the global public and to promote their values, interests and aspirations.

With the development of political communication over the Internet, a growing number of the French politicians are posting online their New Year’s Messages, which have been so far a genre of political discourse reserved for the President. These speeches have a similar pattern, which apart from wishes include an evaluation of the passing year and plans for the future. This is so, because the New Year’s Messages have primarily a persuasive function, and serve the purpose of strengthening the addressees’ group identity by reminding them of common values. However, while the President’s speech is strongly ritualized and emotionally balanced – as it is addressed to the whole nation – the online speeches are not subject to certain conventions, which allows the politicians to adjust the tone of their speech to the expectations of their supporters. Therefore a whole range of feelings is applied – from the fear of France falling, to national pride – depending on the political aims which are to be achieved. This article makes an attempt at answering the question in which way these emotions are constructed within the speeches, and which persuasive function they embody. The author adopts the perspective of argument analysis in discourse (Amossy, 2000; Plantin, 2011), which perceives emotions as a rhetoric means (pathos) whose aim is to influence the addressee.

This article proposes a quantitative reading of the hoard evidence concerning the coin production of Antiochos IV. The “Seleucid Hoard Database” (SHD) is used as the starting point for addressing the question of coinage as “tool of diplomacy or legitimacy” of the king’s reign. The demonstration, following a recent comparable analysis on the coinage of Antiochos III, is meant to serve as a methodological manifest of the usefulness of large datasets, statistical analyses and quantifi cations when considering historical issues. The role of Antioch as a major mint is examined, as well as the westward circulation patterns of Antiochos’ issues, while the quantitative analysis of obverse and reverse types serves as a reference point for the divinization of the king and the political messages transmitted through his numismatic production.

Increasing number of unwanted e-mails has influence on users’ security in the Internet. Today spam e-mails can store potential malicious messages which e.g. can redirect user to fake sites. These messages recently appeared in social media. Filtering of this content is important due to minimize financial and branding costs. Traditional methods of spam filtering cannot be sufficient for present threats. We required new methods for constructing more dependable and robust antispam filters. Machine learning recently becomes very popular technique in classification methods. It has been successfully used in spam classification. In this paper we present some methods of machine learning for spam detecting. We would also like to introduce ways to solve the spam classification problem. We show that these methods can be useful in classification of malicious messages. We also compared developed methods and presented results in the experimental section.

Nowadays initiatives in the fields of media literacy such as youth participation, teacher training and curricular resources, parental support, policy initiatives, and evidence base construction - are very successful in growing the level of the critical thinking of the participants. However, there are still a few areas which need to be guided. Authors Monica Bulger and Patrick Davison make five recommendations for the development of the future of media literacy programming for educators, legislators, technologists, and philanthropists. On the other hand the report also warns against the contemporary treatment of media literacy as a panacea - in the way of how to deal with fake news.
