    This paper reconstructs Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz’s understanding of logic, accentuating the differences in his evaluation of logic and systems of ‘logistics’. Leśniewski’s theory of collective sets (mereology) exemplifies logistics as understood by Witkiewicz. I present an outline of Leśniewski’s nominalism, which entails a belief in a non-abstract nature of sets. I focus on these features of mereology that could have led Witkiewicz to interpreting it as an ontological system. Witkacy (Witkiewicz’s penname) was skeptical of the usefulness of formal systems (or logistics), and of mereology in particular, for the purposes of designing a unified ontological system describing essential properties of objects (the world). According to Witkiewicz, such formal systems assumed the role of ontology but severely lacked in philosophical justification. I argue that regardless of his nominalism and corporeal conception of individuals, mereology cannot be considered a formal theory of Witkiewicz’s monads.

    An extensional mereology was subjected to analysis of many authors. It was proved that it corresponds to a Boolean algebra without a null element. A slightly modified version of this model in which the primitive relation of being a part does not fullfill the Extensional Principle, will be called: Non-extensional Mereology. There is no systematic analysis for such a model until now. Some authors present partial descriptions of it. In this work we would like to propose a detailed and systematic analysis of Non-extensional Mereology. We present a minimal set of axioms and show that this model, under certain conditions, corresponds to an implicative lattice.
    Mereologia klasyczna, nazywana również˙ mereologia˛ ekstensjonalna˛ została dość szczegółowo przebadana przez wielu autorów. Udowodniono, z˙e jest to model odpowiadający algebrom Boole’a bez zera. Model nieco słabszy, w którym relacja pierwotna bycia częścią nie spełnia zasady ekstensjonalności, może zostać nazwany mereologią nieekstensjonalną. Jak dotychczas nie istnieje systematyczna analiza takiego modelu. Kilka prac przedstawia jedynie pewne jej fragmentaryczne opisy. W niniejszej pracy pra- gniemy zaproponować formalna˛ i kompletna˛ analizę części tej teorii. Wprowadzając minimalny układ aksjomatów wykazujemy, że odpowiada ona algebraicznej strukturze kraty implikatywnej.

    The paper is an attempt to defend the Chisholm's metaphysical doctrine called mereological essentialism. The main thesis of mereological essentialism states that for any objects x and y - if x is ever a part of y, then y is necessarily such that x is a part of y, i.e. that all parts of y are essential to it (y has them at any time that y exists). This radical theory gives a categorisation of all objects via entia per se and entia successiva. The paper contains a critical survey of the theory of mereological essentialism: it deals with some important arguments against it and answers as well. The author tries to show that in defence of the theory and the categorisation in question the applicability of the doctrine of mereological essentialism must be somehow limited. He suggests that the best way in doing so is to restrict theses of mereological essentialism either only to objects qua occurrents or only to objects qua continuants or only to persons.

    Opis:
    Path planning is one of the most vital problems in mobile robotics; it falls into general province of planning, however, due to specificity of the subject of mobile robotics, it has emerged as a discipline per se with its own solutions. Among many methods of probabilistic, geometrical and topological nature, the methodology of potential fields introduced by Krogh (1984) and Khatib (1985), based on physical analogies with gravitational or electromagnetic fields, has emerged. We adhere to this methodology, however, contrary to the practice of building the potential on the basis of Coulomb, or gravitational force fields, we apply the novel idea of building the potential function by means of mereological distance over a juxtaposition of grids of fixed diameter, i.e., over a discrete structure. We describe our implementation of the relevant mereological functors in the Player/Stage system as SQL predicates accessible in Player/Stage cooperating with PostgreSQL database. We present also the results of simulations with mobile robots.

    This paper presents some generalizations of BCI algebras (the RM, tRM, *RM, RM**, *RM**, aRM**, *aRM**, BCH**, BZ, pre-BZ and pre-BCI algebras). We investigate the p-semisimple property for algebras mentioned above; give some examples and display various conditions equivalent to p-semisimplicity. Finally, we present a model of mereology without antisymmetry (NAM) which could represent a tRM algebra.

    This is a spin-off paper to [3, 4] in which we carried out an extensive analysis of Andrzej Grzegorczyk’s point-free topology from [5]. In [1] Loredana Biacino and Giangiacomo Gerla presented an axiomatization which was inspired by the Grzegorczyk’s system, and which is its variation. Our aim is to compare the two approaches and show that they are slightly different. Except for pointing to dissimilarities, we also demonstrate that the theories coincide (in the sense that their axioms are satisfied in the same class of structures) in presence of axiom stipulating non-existence of atoms.
