Introduction This study evaluated the effect of a 12-month physical exercise intervention accompanied by a 12-month followup evaluating stress symptoms (SS), mental resources (MR) and cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) in healthy, working adults. We hypothesized that the stress symptoms would decrease and mental resources would increase during the intervention and that these results are associated with changes in CRF. Material and methods The study group included healthy adults (N = 371). Three hundred thirty eight participants (212 women, 126 men) were allocated in the exercise group and 33 in the control group (17 women and 16 men). For the analysis, the exercise group was divided into subgroups according to the baseline SS and MR. Stress symptoms and MR were measured using the Occupational Stress Questionnaire. Results During the 12-month exercise intervention, SS decreased by 16% (p < 0.0001), MR increased by 8% (p < 0.0001) and CRF increased by 7% (p < 0.0001) in the exercise group, while no changes occurred in the control group (ANCOVA, p < 0.01). In the exercise group, the results (SS, MR, and CRF) remained improved during the follow-up. There was a positive correlation between the change in SS and the change in CRF (r = 0.19, p < 0.01). In the subgroup having the highest SS at baseline, SS during the intervention decreased most (26%) (ANCOVA, p < 0.0001). Conclusions One year physical exercise intervention improved mental well-being among working adults and this was associated with an improvement in cardiorespiratory fitness. The positive changes remained after the 12-month follow-up.

Culture has a substantial impact on mechanism of coping with stress and related health outcomes. We proposed a model emphasizing the mediating role of coping resources and competences in the relationship between controllability of demands in professional/educational life and health in the cross-cultural context. The model is based on the transactional model of stress. 595 participants from East Germany, West Germany and Poland completed: Sense of Coherence Scale SOC-9, Self-Esteem Scale, Social Support Scale, Generalized Self-Efficacy Scale, Proactive Coping Inventory, Scale of Demands in Professional Life, Brief Stress Scale, Satisfaction with Life Scale and Mental Health Questionnaire. The results have shown the general cross-cultural validity of the proposed mediational model but also indicated some cultural differences in the determinants of health. Germans had higher self-esteem and social support. Poles had higher selfefficacy and used proactive coping strategies more often. Self-esteem was the strongest predictor of mental health in both nations. We discussed the results within a broad interpretive framework of social transitions.

Objectives Music educators are subjected to many physical and psychological stresses encountered in the workplace. These stresses could be counteracted by certain work-related behavior and experience patterns as personal resources to reduce the negative consequences of stress. The aim of the study was to determine the existing work-related behavioral and experiential patterns and the characteristics of the Work-Related Behavior and Experience Patterns (Arbeitsbezogenes Verhaltens- und Erlebensmuster – AVEM) questionnaire dimensions in the professional group of music educators according to age group. Material and Methods A total of 205 music educators (66.3% female) from various music schools in Germany participated in the online survey. The subjects were divided into 3 age groups (AG): AG I: ≤35 years, AG II: 36–45 years, AG III: ≥46 years. In addition to sociodemographic and occupational data, the standardized AVEM questionnaire was used according to Schaarschmidt and Fischer. The age and occupation-related data were evaluated in a correlation analysis with the expression of AVEM dimensions. Results A total of 71.4% of the music educators were ≥46 years old group. Another 12.8% belonged to AG II, and 15.8% belonged to AG III. The sex distribution in the 3 age groups was comparable (p = 0.261). The expression of all AVEM dimensions was within the reference range. The most pronounced dimension, with a stanine value of M±SD 5.2±2.15, was the willingness to spend. There was also no significant difference in the assignment to the 4 patterns in the 3 age groups (p = 0.669). Age showed a negative correlation with the experience of social support (ρ = –0.354). Conclusions The age-independent and high intervention-requiring expressions of the AVEM risk patterns A and B led to the recommendation of workplace prevention and health promotion measures. Therefore, it seems reasonable to promote appropriate stress management measures and resilience during studies.

Many lives and aircrafts have been lost due to human errors associated with mental workload overload (MWLOL). Human errors are successfully considered in existing Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) methods. However, MWLOL is considered through Performance Shaping Factors indirectly and its information is hidden in FT construction, which is not conducive to analyze the root causes of human errors and risks. To overcome this difficulty, we develop a risk analysis method where Multiple Resources Model (MRM) is incorporated into FTA methods. MRM analyzes mental workload by estimating the resources used during performing concurrent tasks, probably including abnormal situation handling tasks introduced by basic events in FT. Such basic events may cause MWLOL and then trigger corresponding human error events. A MWLOL gate is proposed to describe MWLOL explicitly and add these new relationships to traditional FT. This new method extends previous FTA methods and provides a more in-depth risk analysis. An accident, a helicopter crash in Maryland, is analyzed by the proposed method.

Opis:
The work concerns the role of childhood experiences in the development of mental health. It is believed that regardless of the emotional relationship and genetic predispositions, appropriately selected stimulants in the environment may also influence the young child’s development. In the first periods of child’s life the experiences gained in family pay as crucial character as the environment where this development takes place. It is emphasized in literature that appropriate intellectual and social development of a child is related with the influence of the external environment as long as it is available and logically designed. In Poland only a few studies concern families with small children – they are usually carried out by sociologists, moreover, there is also very little data on the determinants of the development of children and possible role of these for mental health. It was therefore attempted in this work to describe possible childhood experiences, which may play role in the development of mental health in childhood and adolescence or adulthood.

Opis:
Purpose: This paper aims to analyse and discuss well-being initiatives undertaken by companies during the pandemic. Well-being is considered an overall subjective evaluation of an individual's life, including three main areas: psychological (ability to cope with stressors and stay in a positive mood), physical (good health, fitness, beauty, sleep) and social (positive relationships, support). It influences work satisfaction, motivation and performance. Design/methodology/approach: The applied method was a case study analysis. 21 companies and 105 well-being interventions were investigated in terms of the type, frequency, expected outcomes, implementation process, measurement methods and cooperation with employees. Findings: Results show that the most common are interventions in mental health and physical activity improvements as well as building positive relationships between employees working remotely. Interventions usually suit the employees' needs; however, well-being and intervention effectiveness are not very well measured and investigated in a study sample. More reliable and evidence-based methods of implementation of well-being management are needed. Research limitations/implications: A certain limitation may be the deliberate selection of the research sample – only companies operating in Poland were included in the study, which excludes generalisation of the results obtained. Practical implications: Building a culture of well-being in an organisation should not be based on random, ad hoc activities, but rather on a long-term strategy in which both employees, leaders and managers play an important role. Originality/value: The described research results prove that a large group of entrepreneurs in the country has entered the phase of business maturity and appreciate the role and importance of the organisational culture in terms of well-being at work during a difficult period of the pandemic. The article may be especially useful for HR managers and HR business partners.

Forest areas are treated as one of the most important resources for a modern human, which is an integral part of his existence. The aim of this study was to determine a degree of the influence that forest environment has on the psychological and physical development of Polish teenagers as well as to recognize the motives having the greatest impact on the need of school youth to stay in the forest environment. We also tried to define skills and values acquired by young people through the use of forest areas. We used a diagnostic survey method. Authors' questionnaire was applied to survey 3,590 respondents all over Poland. The study was conducted in May and June 2014. Altogether we surveyed 1,206 high school students, 1,186 junior high students and 1,198 pupils from the elementary schools. The discriminant function was applied for statistical analyzes. The main motives for young people to stay in the forest environment were resting, gathering undergrowth, physical recreation as well as education on the economy and protection of forest resources (tab. 1). The co−participants of young people were mostly parents, to a lesser extent, tourist guides, foresters and educators dealing with forestry issues. Young people often organized trips to the forest areas on their own (tab. 2). Teenagers treat the forest as a place of physical and mental regeneration, a place of active resting by practicing such forms of recreational activities as walking, jogging, nordic walking, cycling and, to a lesser extent, horse riding and skiing (tab. 5). They also strongly emphasized the possibility to gather undergrowth in the forest areas. The forest resources are an important place for practicing physical recreation, relaxation and regeneration of psychophysical forces of Polish schoolchildren (tab. 4). The forest environment gives young people the opportunity to relax, restore emotional balance and to enjoy their stay in the bosom of nature. The forest environment influences the acquisition and improvement of many skills related to healthy lifestyle as well as cognitive elements associated with forest management and the function of forest (tab. 3). Despite the significant role of forest services in educational activities, the main responsibility of preparing children and young people to skillful use of forest resources rests on foresters and educators related to the forest environment.
